Chapter 335 - 224: Yulin’s Predicament and Yu Fei’s Decision
Chapter 335: Chapter 224: Yulin’s Predicament and Yu Fei’s Decision
The two of them were responsible for defending this area, so they couldn’t retreat carelessly. Doing so would be a disaster for the Martial Artists behind them.
Feng Hua explained their request for a rotation in the Mental Network. A voice from a support Martial Artist chimed in, telling them to hold their position for a moment longer until reinforcements arrived, at which point they could withdraw.
Feng Hua then explained to him, "If there aren’t any special circumstances, you just need to announce it in the Mental Network when you’re leaving the front line. Of course, if the situation is urgent, you can retreat immediately!"
He paused, his expression turning serious. "No matter what, you must make an announcement in the Mental Network when you withdraw. Retreating without notice will earn you a demerit, and there are other punishments!"
Yu Fei asked thoughtfully, "But not all Martial Artists are in the Mental Network, are they?"
"Then you don’t need to worry about them. It just means they aren’t critical to the battle! It’s best to have a support Martial Artist on your own team, but if you don’t, the garrison will evaluate a Martial Artist’s importance based on their performance. Those who have an impact on the battle will be granted access to the Mental Network!"
"I see!"
Although both of them were in poor condition, given their power, they could still work together to kill a Tier 5 Spider Demon relying on pure strength alone. It was just more difficult.
A short while later, three independent squads rushed over from the rear. Leading them were no less than seven Gang Qi Martial Artists, with over a hundred Five Realms Divine Intent Martial Artists behind them. They were at full strength—this was the typical composition for a frontline combat unit.
The two of them gradually retreated to the wall. Looking up from below, it was covered in holes.
Even though the wall was forged from extraordinary materials and was incredibly hard, over the course of the long war, countless demons had charged its base. The holes had clearly been made by the bone blades of Blade Demons, which they used to scale it.
In a war between extraordinary races, the true defense lay not in the walls, but in the Martial Artists themselves.
The purpose of this section of wall was to provide human Martial Artists with the advantage of high ground when a major battle broke out.
When Yu Fei and Feng Hua returned, they saw their young teammates sprawled all over the ground.
Their main goal for the day had been to familiarize themselves with the environment. They had briefly pushed to the secondary front line, but ultimately couldn’t handle the pressure and had fallen back to the three-kilometer mark.
Yu Fei saw that many of them were injured, and Bayan was administering first aid.
The chaotic battlefield was nothing like the controlled environment of an arena. There were endless Vile Demons, extremely dangerous Blade Demons, and Shadow Demons lurking in the darkness.
The endless hordes of demons were overwhelming. Unlike Yu Fei, they couldn’t process all the battlefield information at once. The slightest mistake could put them in grave danger.
If it weren’t for the protection and support of the Salted Fish Assault Team, some of them might have died.
Although each of them had high cultivation realms and proficient martial arts, they were still mentally green and lacked experience.
The higher-ups hadn’t given them time to adapt slowly. Since they were prodigies, the idea was to throw them onto the battlefield with adequate protection. After experiencing slaughter and death, they would naturally mature.
Yu Fei’s gaze swept over them casually. He spotted a full six Orange-Red Rubies concealed and watching over their team. They were definitely upperclassmen.
Spirit Fox, the support Martial Artist, was completely unaware.
Strangely enough, Yu Fei couldn’t find any Martial Artists assigned to protect him. His Reversing Destiny Vision revealed nothing. ’Could Ye Shuping really be this confident in me?’
"Mr. Yu, it was horrible! I got bitten by a Blade Demon! You almost never saw me again..."
Qin Hao’s neck was wrapped in layers of gauze, with bloodstains faintly visible.
Yu Fei inspected the wound and said with a smile, "Looks like you’re very popular. How did it feel to be kissed by a Blade Demon?"
Qin Hao said indignantly, "Mr. Yu, you’re my real boss! And you’re making fun of me too? I can’t go on!"
Kang Ming, full of exasperated disappointment, interjected, "Who would’ve thought you were such a noob! You could have just killed the pouncing Blade Demon with one sword strike, but no, you had to show off some ’new grappling move’ you learned. Turns out Blade Demons aren’t built like humans—their joints bend backward. He almost got his head bitten off!"
"It’s so annoying! Because of you, we had to make an emergency retreat and frantically give him medical attention!"
Kang Ming was extremely irritated. Rookies were a handful. When things went well, they got cocky. When the tide turned, they’d cry and scream and try to run. Someone even cried for his mother!
On top of that, they didn’t follow orders—or rather, they didn’t seem to understand them. The more critical the moment, the more likely they were to screw up.
Kang Ming adjusted his glasses, his eyes filled with frustration.
"And you, Feng Hua! Weren’t you supposed to be looking after the new recruits? Where have you been? After goofing off all day, you actually decided to come back?"
Feng Hua gave an awkward, sheepish smile. "Hey now, I was mentoring a rookie too, wasn’t I?" He said, pushing Yu Fei forward.
"See? Here’s my rookie. One leader mentoring another—perfectly reasonable! Right, Yu Fei?"
Kang Ming looked at Yu Fei, and his anger instantly vanished.
He was a support Martial Artist himself, albeit a command-type, so he knew about Yu Fei’s performance on the front line. On his very first day, the man had annihilated two Tier 6 Spider Demon Corps, over seventy Tier 5 corps, and an untold number of Tier 4 corps.
It was debatable whether the entire Salted Fish Assault Team, even with Feng Hua, could match such a monstrous combat record.
"Monster..."
Kang Ming shot a resentful glance at Feng Hua, his eyes screaming with disappointment at the man’s wasted potential.
Yu Fei stepped forward and thanked Kang Ming. "Mr. Kang, thank you for your hard work. We’ll be counting on you to keep a close eye on the team. If anyone disobeys your orders, I’ll personally deduct their combat merits!"
Training new recruits is never easy, no matter the job—especially when it’s an entire team of them.
