Chapter 311: Chapter 212: Assessing Contributions

Zhang Hu said nonchalantly, "Between our three classes, whoever deals with their opponent first, with the fewest losses and in the shortest time—winner takes all!"

Feng Hua scoffed, "Winner takes all? Did you actually win?"

Zhang Hu’s expression darkened. "Our class was the first to take care of Meteor Pavilion, and we didn’t lose a single person. Naturally, we won!"

Feng Hua pressed him, "You... won?"

"How can you say we didn’t win? Feng Hua, your entire team was wiped out by Yu Fei! We had to take over your combat mission after that, get it? You have to be reasonable!"

"Hah..."

Feng Hua got up and walked away without so much as a glance at Zhang Hu.

"Hey, what’s with you? Qingshan, you be the judge here!"

Qingshan leaned on his elbows and buried his face in his hands, staring at Zhang Hu for a good while. At last, he lowered his hands and said,

"Hu, everyone knows what you’re up to. But with the exercise ending up like this, you really have the gall to bring up the bet? Let me ask you, what was the most crucial condition we agreed on?"

Before Zhang Hu could answer, Qingshan said softly, "You only get to take it all if you *win*. And don’t give me that nonsense about your combat objective being those rookies from Meteor Pavilion. This military exercise never assigned any so-called combat objectives. The three freshman classes were technically a single entity, and so were we!"

Qingshan stood and patted Zhang Hu on the shoulder. "Hu, it’s fine to have a team name with ’dog’ in it, but try not to be such a dog yourself!"

With that, he also left.

Zhang Hu sat there stone-faced for a long time.

"Fuck!"

’Those two bastards are just trying to weasel out of the bet,’ he thought. ’Bringing up the exercise rules now? When we made the wager, wasn’t it the unspoken agreement that we’d each pick one of the freshman classes?’

Qingshan walked away, humming a tune. ’Zhang Hu still wants his ten million? Ten million my ass. How could he have the nerve to call that mess a win?’

「The next day.」

Yu Fei forced himself to sit through a lecture from a so-called "superior officer." To put it bluntly, it was all nonsense. He didn’t remember a single word.

The subsequent debriefing was equally lacking in substance. It was mostly a recap of their combat strategies, with a special emphasis on praising Yu Fei’s strength and the Yulin Army’s execution, while criticizing the battlefield decisions made by experts like Li Jueyin.

’In Yu Fei’s view, none of this was particularly useful. If you lack raw power, a few clever tactics are merely icing on the cake. This is a world of supernatural martial arts, not a conventional war where the physical differences between soldiers are minor. The power gap between Martial Artists is more outrageous than the generational gap between weapons in a war between mortals.’

His own commander, however, listened quite attentively and even went on stage to give a speech.

Yu Fei was completely uninterested in all this. He tuned out after the first few minutes, his mind on the only thing that mattered to him now: how many merit points he was going to get!

Furthermore, an announcement was made about their third evaluation, scheduled for December 21st. They would be heading to the front lines, following the very same second-year seniors they had just "interacted" with, to have a "friendly chat" with the Yuanmo race.

The news was met with mixed reactions. Most students were filled with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. The path of a Martial Artist, after all, had to be forged in the crucible of combat.

Yu Fei, too, felt a surge of anticipation. ’I wonder if those aliens have any special innate abilities,’ he thought. ’Could I use them to expand my own arsenal of skills?’

After idling away half the day, Yu Fei and his classmates boarded a transport back to Shenhan, while the second-years prepared to depart for their next battlefield.

Shenhan University was essentially a military academy. Once students reached a certain level of combat proficiency, they were required to serve on the vast battlefields of the border territories. In contrast, students at universities like Tianwen and Yuqing had more freedom. Even when they went to the front lines, it was usually framed as a group expedition for experience.

Only after returning to the Geometric Pyramid Realm did he finally relax completely. He told Xiaohai to go prepare a feast, then put on his virtual visor to catch up on the last two days’ messages.

The first thing that caught his eye was a document titled "Desperate Fortress: Merit Point Allocation Confirmation."

Upon opening it, Yu Fei saw that it was a detailed breakdown of the merit points his class had been awarded for the military exercise.

The points were divided into two categories. The first was for successfully defending two bases and for defeating the Salted Fish Assault Team.

The adjudicators had awarded 5 million points for defending each base, and they deemed Yu Fei’s move to have Qin Hao and his group capture two separate bases as valid.

’Defeating all three classes would have netted a total of 50 million points, but unfortunately, we only took down the Salted Fish Assault Team for 10 million. Zhang Hu was too much of a rat, holing up in his base and refusing to come out. He even had members of the Sleep Bureau with him. It’s a shame I couldn’t finish the job.’

Yu Fei had a certain amount of discretionary power; the confirmation form stated that he could set his own share of the points anywhere between 70% and 95%. He just needed to fill in the number.

This showed how much the adjudicators recognized Yu Fei’s contribution, a point further proven by the maximum possible allocation of 95%.

’If I were more ruthless, I could take 19 million for myself and leave the others to split the remaining 1 million.’

After a moment of thought, Yu Fei decided to take 80%. ’Any lower and I’d feel like a total sucker. I could go higher, but... well, we’ve got a long road ahead of us. Besides, the worst thing you can do in a team is hog all the rewards for yourself. If someone decided to sabotage me at a critical moment, it would be a major pain, whether they succeeded or not.’

After confirming his 80% share, Yu Fei could then set the allocation for everyone else in the class. The only restriction was a minimum of 0.5%, meaning he had to ensure everyone received at least 0.5% of the remaining 20%—which came out to 20,000 points. To go any lower would require an explanation for the adjudicators to review, for cases such as insubordination on the battlefield.

Yu Fei was the nominal combat leader of the Yulin Army and its chief commander in battle. On the field, he had disciplinary authority over everyone in the class, and after the battle, he held the right to distribute the spoils.

This was the greatest power a leader of the Celestial Pride Class held.

After a moment’s consideration, he allocated 20% of the remaining pool to Jiang Nianwei and 5% to Qin Hao. He assigned 4% to be split among the three men he had personally led. For everyone else, he set a maximum individual cap of 3%, then authorized the confirmation form and sent it to Jiang Nianwei to handle the final distribution for the rest of the class.
