Chapter 307: Chapter 210: Fighting 100 Prodigies
"Shit, I’m out!"
Qingshan retreated from the battle, looking utterly battered. Three others immediately took his place, continuing to support Zhang Hu.
Qingshan’s once-crisp white suit was now in tatters. Yu Fei wasn’t faring any better. Less than half of his golden cape remained, and his Profound Scale Armor was covered in gashes, having lost almost all of its defensive capability.
Yu Fei was completely surrounded. Attackers would fall back, exhausted, only to be replaced by fresh fighters. Every time he gained the upper hand and tried to press his advantage, a barrage of super-powered bullets would cut him off, interrupting him time and again.
Zhang Hu and Qingshan could still find chances to rest and recover, but Yu Fei could only rely on his own willpower to persevere.
During the fight, he had relied on his Yang Qi’s regenerative abilities to take out seven sophomores. Zhang Hu and the others were furious, but there was nothing they could do.
As the sun began to set, Yu Fei’s regenerative abilities weakened considerably, to the point where he was taking more damage than he could heal. At the same time, the sophomores surrounding him were also reaching the point of utter exhaustion.
By the end, both sides were running on willpower alone.
Zhang Hu could barely grip his Dragon Sparrow. Yu Fei’s physical strength was immense, and as the primary attacker, Zhang Hu had expended the most energy.
"Yu Fei, just surrender!"
Zhang Hu urged with heartfelt sincerity.
"I promise, if you surrender, we’ll see you off with all due respect. Everyone has witnessed your strength. But the sun is about to set. You’ll lose your Inner Qi regeneration, and you won’t last much longer. If you fall then, my men... they might not be able to hold back!"
Zhang Hu felt every muscle in his body tremble. He’d never fought a battle this intense, not even on a real battlefield.
Yu Fei was like an impossibly hard stone—unbreakable and unyielding.
The others had to admit, they were impressed. Even though they had superior numbers and had been attacking in shifts, they were all exhausted. They couldn’t imagine how this freshman had managed to endure for so long.
Yu Fei leaned heavily on his sword, Zhanming, propping it against the ground. The young man was covered in dust, his clothes were shredded into strips, and his face was caked with dried sweat, making him look like a beggar.
"Enough talk, Zhang Hu. How do you know I’ll lose my combat effectiveness at night?
Surrender is something I’ve never even considered. I just want to send you seniors off for a rest and claim that fifty-million-merit-point reward!"
"Arrogant!"
Qingshan roared, "You’re strong, I’ll admit I’m no match for you in a one-on-one fight. But you’re about to lose your regenerative abilities. How dare you be so arrogant!"
In truth, after a full day of fighting, Qingshan was in far worse shape than Zhang Hu. His main abilities were stealth and assassination, but he was weaker than Yu Fei in every respect. During the siege, Yu Fei had directed the vast majority of his Sword Qi at him, making it an incredibly difficult fight.
Zhang Hu took a deep breath. "So be it. We’ll just have to beat you to the ground! Don’t blame us if we don’t hold back!"
Having fought this long, Zhang Hu and his group had no path of retreat; they had to take Yu Fei down. Their tactic had now shifted to simply stalling for time, waiting for the sun to set and the world’s Yang Qi to fade, and then drain Yu Fei of his last bit of strength.
Little did they know, Yu Fei was also waiting for nightfall. While his regenerative ability was strong during the day, he had far fewer tactical options.
He used the lull in conversation to send a message to Qin Hao and the others, telling them to wait nearby with supplies.
The sun went down and the sky grew dim. The spirits of Zhang Hu’s group lifted; this was the moment they’d been waiting for.
He was about to organize everyone for a saturation attack when he suddenly saw Yu Fei sheathe his sword, Zhanming. Then, Yu Fei drew a thumb across his own throat in a blatant threat.
Before Zhang Hu could say a word, Yu Fei’s figure slowly vanished. Zhang Hu was stunned. ’What’s the point of that? We have two top-tier perception-type Martial Artists. You think they can’t find you?’
’What’s the meaning of this?’
Suddenly, the color drained from Yun Jing’s face. She immediately grabbed Gao Nianzhen and the other support-type Martial Artists to conduct a joint scan, but they found nothing.
"Mr. Hu, we can’t find Yu Fei anymore?"
Zhang Hu’s expression went blank. Qingshan roared from the side:
"How could you lose him? The two of you working together should be able to lock onto him!"
Gao Nianzhen glanced at Yun Jing and said hesitantly:
"It was the same last night. We couldn’t find him at all. I even tried to pinpoint environmental anomalies, but there were no traces! In fact, during the day, I was able to find some faint clues even when searching on my own."
Yun Jing remained silent, joining Gao Nianzhen in another combined search. After a long while, they still came up empty-handed.
"What the hell, did we just see a ghost?!" Qingshan furiously jammed his spear into the ground, then lit a cigarette and squatted to the side to sulk.
Zhang Hu wondered aloud, "Could Yu Fei have some kind of special Cultivation Technique that enhances his stealth at night?"
Qingshan was silent for a moment before saying with a sigh of resignation, "There’s no point talking about that now. We need to figure out our next move. I think... we might have already lost..."
Zhang Hu started to speak, then stopped. ’Qingshan is right,’ he thought. ’We failed to take him down in a direct confrontation. Things are going to be much harder now.’
"Let’s set up a perimeter and hold our position! It’s... a little humiliating, though..."
-----------------
Enduring his exhaustion, Yu Fei rushed to the rendezvous point. Qin Hao and his team had set up a safe house just as he’d requested.
"Who goes there?"
"It’s me!"
"Mr. Yu? You... what happened to you?"
The Yu Fei before them lacked his usual dashing appearance. His clothes were in tatters and his face was caked with dirt, making him look no different from a beggar.
"I was surrounded by that group of sophomores. I only just managed to escape."
Yu Fei looked up. Qin Hao and the others had hollowed out a cave, where they’d stashed a small cache of firearms, ammunition, food, and supplies.
He also noticed they had channeled in some groundwater, which collected in a small pool. They had even rigged up a simple filtration system. It was a pretty good setup.
At the mouth of the cave, they had transplanted some trees and vegetation for visual cover. ’Though,’ he recalled, thinking of the sophomores’ perception Secret Technique, ’this camouflage is probably useless.’
