Chapter 289: Chapter 201: Shooting the Bird That Sticks Its Head Out: The Salted Fish Team’s Counterattack

The young man gave a shy smile, then led the way toward the center.

The glamorous woman followed close behind, her voice cold as she said,

"Keep up!"

Hengji rolled her eyes, shoved Chi Yu aside, and belligerently took the third spot in line.

But Chi Yu’s form was ethereal. With a quick twist, he reappeared in front of Hengji. She flew into a rage, but before she could lash out, Feng Hua glanced back. Though she said nothing, the look was enough to make both Hengji and Chi Yu behave.

Before long, three groups of people had gathered in the center of the battlefield. A number of superpowered firearms and ammunition lay here, but nothing else—no cannons or other supplies. Even the amount of ammo was limited.

"Qingshan, Zhang Hu, long time no see!"

Feng Hua stepped past her team to greet the other two squads. She was, in fact, their class president.

"It has been a while. Almost two months. Time really flies. In the blink of an eye, we’re all sophomores!"

Zhang Hu was burly with dark skin and spoke with a slight accent. The moonlight reflected off his smooth, bald head.

He looked around, remembering what had happened last year, and was struck by how much had changed.

"Stop getting sentimental. Let’s beat them quickly, head back for a get-together, and teach these little freshmen the cruelty of the battlefield!"

Qingshan said, puffing out a cloud of smoke. It was a bad habit he’d picked up on the battlefield.

Feng Hua pushed up her glasses and smiled. "Alright, let’s each pick a direction!"

"Whatever..."

"Doesn’t matter!"

"You guys! Fine, I’ll take the northeast. Let’s see... is the freshman class over there called the Yulin Army?"

Feng Hua said uncertainly, glancing at her personal terminal.

"What kind of stupid name is that!"

Hearing this, Zhang Hu joked, "At least it’s better than your class’s ’Salted Fish Assault Team’!"

Feng Hua retorted angrily, "You’ve got some nerve to laugh at me, Captain of the ’Puppy Patrol’?"

Zhang Hu immediately clammed up, awkwardly rubbing his smooth head over and over. They had just picked the name for fun back then. Who knew it would become their official designation on the battlefield? It was complete bullshit.

His class had registered the name Puppy Patrol as a joke, but who knew they’d end up getting mocked for it endlessly... SIGH!

Qingshan said smugly from the side, "Good thing I had the foresight back then. See? Our class is called the Sleep Bureau. How great is that? Rolls right off the tongue."

"Tch. It’s not that much better!" Feng Hua shot him a look.

Honestly, the school had really screwed them over. They never mentioned something so important ahead of time. It wasn’t until they got to the battlefield that they learned every class gets an official designation before graduation—and that designation is simply their class name. They weren’t even the worst off. There was a senior class with a name that was twenty-five characters long, from back when there wasn’t a fifteen-character limit.

Zhang Hu looked at the map and slowly read the names. "Yulin Army, Meteor Pavilion, Iron-Blooded Divine Guard?"

He looked displeased. "Giving themselves such flashy names... they’re just asking for death. Way too high-profile. They’re begging for a beating!"

Qingshan slammed his cigarette butt to the ground, sending up a shower of sparks. "Let’s get ’em! What makes them worthy of such cool names?"

He said to Zhang Hu, "The lovely Feng Hua chose the Yulin Army down below. So, how about we take the other two? I’ll handle Meteor Pavilion, and you take on the Iron-Blooded Divine Guard."

"Deal! But... how about we make a bet?"

Feng Hua’s interest was suddenly piqued. She heard Zhang Hu say in his simple, honest way, "The three of our classes will each put ten million merit points into a pool. We’ll see who takes down their opponents first. When it’s all over, the fastest team takes all!"

Qingshan thought for a moment, then added a rule: "Whoever’s class has the most casualties has to add another ten million!"

Feng Hua sealed the deal. "Done!"

Zhang Hu’s expression froze. ’My class is stronger in Body Refining, so I was planning to win quickly, no matter the cost. That cunning bastard Qingshan just used that to screw me over.’ But the words were already out, so he had no choice but to bite the bullet and agree.

While the three of them were talking, their subordinates had already distributed the firearms and ammunition.

"Let’s move out!"

The group split into three teams and headed for their respective targets.

’We have to beat these freshmen into submission. According to the rules, we’ll each be responsible for training a first-year class on the battlefield. We have to completely crush their arrogance and show them the overwhelming power of their seniors.’

’And after what we went through last year, the suffering we endured... it has to be passed down, exactly as we received it. We can’t let the school’s fine tradition die out.’

Feng Hua led her team to the base of a cliff. Once they got to the top, they would be about ten kilometers from the border—within striking range of the superpowered firearms.

She waved her hand for the team to halt.

’Feng Hua remembered how last year, she had led her class to set up an ambush outside the warning line. They hadn’t known back then that support-type Martial Artists had such powerful sensory abilities. Their seniors had turned the tables and ambushed them instead. They suffered heavy losses on the spot, and the survivors were surrounded and wiped out in a close-range assault.’

’Even she herself had been surrounded and given a sound beating.’

"Linghu, do a scan!"

From the rear, a small, adorable girl immediately formed a series of hand seals. An invisible wave of energy radiated out from her, sweeping in all directions.

"Sis, no one’s there!"

Linghu was the Salted Fish Assault Team’s best support-type Martial Artist. Her surveillance range covered a radius of twenty *li*.

Feng Hua nodded. ’Looks like the other team is too timid,’ she thought. ’They’re probably planning to hole up in a building and defend from there.’

’A ridiculous idea. They haven’t been tempered by the slaughter of a real battlefield. Even though the freshmen are also in the Inner Qi Realm, they’re still green in every other aspect. Their combat systems aren’t fully developed, and more importantly, their mentality is weak!’

"Move out!"

Everyone leaped up the cliff, but their different levels of Body Technique meant they arrived at the top at different times.

On the high slope, Yu Fei had stopped channeling energy into his bullets five minutes ago. One magazine had already lost its charge. He quickly swapped it for a new one, remaining completely hidden. Aided by his Illusory Sword Intent, he had gone completely undetected by Linghu.
