Chapter 1068: Descent of Chaos [part 2]
Northern could not put what he felt into words. It was like there was no word for such a thing, at least not right now. And he was in too much turmoil to even think straight.
Hence, in that moment, there was just one thing he could do. He dove straight into the Limitless Void.
And just like Northern had thought, his soul was being destroyed… by just a single command.
There was a hurricane in the sky, like a living wound torn open—an endless coil of crimson darkness that bled into the world. It roared without voice, a silence so heavy it smothered the air before breaking into a scream that shook marrow.
The void palace, once a monument of the Limitless Void, perched atop the peak of the void, quivered beneath its shadow.
Then the wind struck—tearing stone from stone as though the walls had been made of parchment. Black marble pillars snapped with the brittle sound of breaking bones. Roofs were peeled away like scabs from raw flesh, hurled into the whirling throat of the storm where they were ground to dust.
The crimson dark was not just wind—it was hunger. It clawed at the earth, ripping even the black mountain stones that the palace stood on from their roots, flinging them skyward before grinding them into splinters.
Northern stood amidst it all, his face pale and terrified. But there was a single silver lining: this hurricane was only consuming the Void Palace and not the rest of the Limitless Void. The mountains were still intact, the surrounding areas still very much standing and unaffected.
So while his soul was being greatly wounded by that single command, Northern felt like he was not going to die.
Moreover, the Origin only had the power to command Chaos because he was the Origin of Chaos. However, there was another silver lining with that too.
It was because Kryos had to eat the true Origin of Chaos to become the Origin of Chaos. He was a Tyrant of Blood, War and Madness. By consuming Chaos Prince, all this coalesced into Chaos, and thus he could now command Chaos.
This silver lining was that Kryos was not as strong as other Origins. He also could not command Chaos like a true Origin would.
Of course, Northern was still in deep trouble. Because Chaos obeyed him nonetheless and was utterly abandoning his soul.
Void palace was the only place Chaos resided, and because of that, that part of his soul was being utterly devastated. The wound in his soul, especially its center, could not be ignored. But it was also manageable, especially because Northern did not have a soul core.
Another painful realization was that his soul was being wounded and there was absolutely nothing he could do to stop it. All he could do was watch Chaos leave.
There was no command, no anchor that he could use to hold Chaos, there was no tangible grip he could even feel on it to begin with.
Although, he could still very much feel the void and had a very strong hold on it.
Northern was just realizing it, but the Void truly felt like his in this moment.
And it had to be because of that experience—that time he fell into the void.
He clenched his fist and watched with a grim expression.
Then he exhaled strongly and released his fist. He opened his eyes back to reality.
And stared at Kryos, whose eyes were closed. Kryos clenched his fist as white light began to crawl beneath his skin, like blood through his veins, from his fist, all the way to his chest, his neck and his head, before finally fading.
“Ahhh… the Prison Realm starved me of many things, but you… you’ve fed me something sweeter than power. I feel my bones remember what it means to be feared.”
He rolled his shoulders once, as if shaking off centuries of dust.
“And yet… while plucking Chaos from your soul, I touched something else. Something older. Something that does not belong to you.”
His golden eyes narrowed, glinting like molten coin.
“The Void. Tell me, human—are you its keeper… or its mistake?”
Northern frowned guardedly.
“And why do you care?”
Kryos scoffed slightly and shook his head.
“You… you do not know. Boy. The void is a very patient hunger. You think you have power strapped to your soul. But boy, you are very mistaken. What you have in your soul is a mother that is patiently waiting to swallow her children, everything, once and for all.”
He took a harmless step closer to Northern, looking deeply into his eyes.
“I can see you have gotten very familiar with her. And even helped her recover most of her power? Mother must love you a lot.”
Northern frowned.
“What are you saying?”
’Calling the Void mother is absurd.’
Kryos gazed at Northern with a blank look.
“What? Wait, you did not know?”
He glanced back at Koll who was somewhere behind.
“Tishar, just how much do humans in this world know?”
Koll lowered his head from the distance. He did not raise his voice, but his words reached them—more like they were carried by the world itself.
“Nothing, Lord. They know nothing, Lord.”
Kryos raised his head, grinning.
“Ignorance truly is bliss. I am intrigued by the foolishness of you pampered species. Ul really is working hard to make sure you all enjoy life. So… lucky… denizens of the underworld are not allowed such luxury.”
Northern stared at the Origin, glaring at him. He said nothing but was full of defiance.
“The Void gave birth to us all. Chaos is the firstborn. The Origins are the second. I have a little issue, since I made my way, but I can be considered her great-grandson and her son at the same time.”
Northern lowered his head for a moment. He felt like he was having a headache.
He chuckled dryly.
“So let me get this straight… your son somehow contains your grandfather, and you were looking for ways to contain your great-grandmother, and you ate your son, hence your grandfather too? And let me guess—you’re hoping you can eat your great-grandmother also, but you figured that would not exactly be easy. You have to kill me to do that… right?”
Northern’s gaze sharpened.
The Origin smiled deliberately. He said sweetly and quietly:
“Finally, a human with sense.”
