Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Father is Here

"Mhm." Lu Zhengchuan wrapped his arms around her waist and nuzzled his face into her neck.

"Wanwan, if I can’t keep my job..."

"Then we’ll go into business. You can leave the military and find another job. I had the same thought when you were on the battlefield, but I didn’t say anything because I was afraid it would affect you." Su Wan stroked his buzz cut.

Lu Zhengchuan looked up, saw the concern in her eyes, and couldn’t stop himself from kissing her.

Su Wan only hesitated for a moment before accepting his kiss.

Lu Zhengchuan kissed her for a good while before letting go.

Su Wan could feel sweat on the back of her neck and in her hair. "It’s so hot."

Lu Zhengchuan quickly got out of bed, grabbed a towel from the desk, and clumsily tied her hair up. Then, he used the towel to wipe the sweat from her neck and back.

"Alright, let’s get some sleep. Don’t overthink it. Dad has probably suffered a lot over the years, too. Our lives are getting better. We should respect his choice. Our family of four will be able to get by no matter what."

"Of course, I know you love the military. Let’s find out what’s going on first, and then we’ll figure out what to do."

"Okay." Lu Zhengchuan lay down and instinctively moved to pull Su Wan into his arms.

Su Wan pushed him away. "It’s hot."

"I’ll fan you." Lu Zhengchuan picked up a fan and began waving it.

"That must be tiring for you. It’s fine. The cooling mat is quite comfortable. I’ll be asleep in no time." Su Wan had been busy for so long and was indeed tired, which made it easy to fall asleep.

As he fanned her, Lu Zhengchuan said, "It’s no trouble. I’ll just do it for a little while. Get some sleep. When we get to the military family housing, the rooms will be bigger and have electricity. We can use an electric fan then. We’ll put the children’s cribs on the other side so the breeze won’t blow on them."

"Mmm, that sounds good. When we get to the family housing, I’ll go take a look..." Su Wan’s voice trailed off, growing drowsy.

Lu Zhengchuan kept talking for a bit but received no response. He looked down and saw that Su Wan was already fast asleep.

He smiled softly. Without putting down the fan, he continued fanning her for another half an hour. Once he was sure Su Wan was in a deep sleep, he finally set the fan aside, closed his eyes, and went to sleep himself.

「The next morning.」

After seeing Su Wan off, Lu Zhengchuan wrote down the names he had chosen for their two children in his notebook.

Lu Guannan.

Lu Wenyan.

Just as he finished writing the names, he heard Aunt Zhao’s voice outside the door.

"Aunt Zhao, what is it?" Lu Zhengchuan opened the door.

Aunt Zhao was holding Tuantuan and pointed toward the gate. "Zheng Chuan, there are a few soldiers at the gate. They say they’re looking for you."

"Okay." Lu Zhengchuan glanced at the main gate, then looked down to close his notebook and cap his pen before walking out of the room.

Outside the courtyard gate, several soldiers stood waiting. When they saw him, they saluted.

"Mr. Lu."

"Ah, Xiao Zhang." Lu Zhengchuan recognized the man as the guard for the current commander of the Capital Military District.

"The chief requests your presence."

Lu Zhengchuan nodded. "Let me just get ready."

"Yes, sir."

Lu Zhengchuan returned to the courtyard and entrusted the two children to Aunt Zhao and Second Sister-in-law Su’s care. He changed into his military uniform, left the house, and got into a military vehicle after walking out of the alley.

The military vehicle drove straight back to the Capital Military District, heading directly for the office area.

Lu Zhengchuan entered the office building and was led by Xiao Zhang up to the third floor, where they stopped outside an office.

Xiao Zhang knocked on the door and announced loudly, "Chief, Mr. Lu is here."

"Come in."

The office door opened to reveal a conference room where several military leaders were seated.

However, they were all active-duty leaders. Old Sir Xu and Mr. Qi had already retired and were not among them.

"Xiao Lu, come in, quickly." Chief Zhang waved Lu Zhengchuan over.

Lu Zhengchuan walked in, saluted each of the leaders in turn, then marched forward and took a seat three places to Chief Zhang’s left.

"Xiao Lu, we’ve called you in today to share some news with you."

"Please, go ahead, sir." Lu Zhengchuan sat ramrod straight with a serious expression.

Chief Zhang chuckled. "Don’t worry, it’s good news. The military has received a message from your father."

"My father?" Lu Zhengchuan looked up, his eyes filled with surprise and confusion.

"That’s right. Your father accepted a mission abroad all those years ago and we lost contact with him. But recently, he finally reached out to us again."

’So Dad was the one who contacted the military. In that case, the situation is much better than I expected,’ Lu Zhengchuan thought.

"Do you know what his situation is?" Lu Zhengchuan asked.

Chief Zhang still had a kind smile on his face. "Your father is still in E Country. When he contacted us, we learned that he had an accident back then which caused him to lose his memory. That’s why he didn’t get in touch with the country."

"He’s finally in a stable position abroad after all these years, which is why he dared to contact us now."

"He was injured? Have his injuries healed? Has he recovered his memory?" Lu Zhengchuan fired off a series of questions.

His questions made the leaders and political commissars in the room laugh.

"We knew you’d ask, you rascal. Take a look at this file and you’ll understand." A political commissar handed him a classified document.

Lu Zhengchuan didn’t hesitate to open it, his eyes flying across the pages. He quickly finished reading all the information inside.

His father had indeed lost his memory and hadn’t contacted the country. But it was also because his situation abroad hadn’t been good for many years. To go from being a patient to the leader of a mercenary group, he must have been constantly embroiled in internal struggles. It had only been two years since he gained full control of the entire mercenary force.

During those two years, his whereabouts were unknown. Furthermore, he often wore a mask, so very few people knew his true identity. Naturally, no one back home knew he was the mercenary leader.

It wasn’t until he recently contacted the country on his own initiative, stating that he was reporting back to the organization the moment he recovered his memory.

"This is fantastic news for the country!" one of the leaders said happily.

"Xiao Lu, for now, only a very small number of people in the country know that this person might be your father. Until we figure out how to handle your father’s organization, this must be kept secret."

"We can ensure secrecy on our end, as everyone who knows about this has signed a confidentiality agreement. You need to sign one too."

A confidentiality agreement instantly appeared in front of him.

Lu Zhengchuan’s anxious heart actually calmed down. Signing a confidentiality agreement meant they were following official procedure, which was good news.

"Yes, sir." Lu Zhengchuan picked up the pen and signed his name.

"There’s another confidentiality agreement here. We will arrange for someone to deliver it to Comrade Su Wan for her to sign as well. She is your wife and has given you two children. Your father is desperate to come back, but unfortunately, his mission isn’t complete yet. You’ll have to wait a little longer."

Lu Zhengchuan looked at the leaders present. "Sirs, I understand. I will follow all of your arrangements. What do you need me to do now?"

"It’s simple. We held a meeting and discussed it. Your father is an old revolutionary comrade. He completed his mission before the accident and has a record full of military honors. Our country will not wrong any of our revolutionary comrades."

"Xiao Lu, today is a good day. We called you here so you could talk to your father on the phone."
