Chapter 77: Life Workshop
Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Life Workshop
Haaah...
Chen Fan took a deep breath before turning to Wang Kui. "Take these five boxes back. Once they’re empty, bring them back up."
The boxes were loaded onto the crocodile.
It would only take a few trips to transport everything.
Soon.
The excavation continued.
No one minded the filth. Zhou Mo and the others were people who had roamed the Wilderness before the rainy season. They understood the terror of the Eternal Night better than anyone, and they knew exactly what Ghost Stones meant for their survival—they were the chips needed to stay alive.
During a rainy season where death could come at any moment.
No one was fussy enough to complain about the overwhelming stench.
Even Big Fish, the only woman on the team, showed no sign of disgust.
Finally—
As dusk approached.
The excavation was complete. Loaded with bags of all sizes, everyone sat on the crocodile’s back and returned to the camp in groups.
’Are there really no more?’
Before leaving.
Chen Fan glanced around with a hint of regret. He so wished the crocodile could paw at the ground again and dig up another dung pit. But alas... the crocodile looked back at him with an innocent and helpless expression, spreading its short, stout forelimbs to indicate that there was truly nothing left.
...
Inside the camp.
Qi Chong was alone inside Cave No. 1. The Eternal Night had not yet fallen and the Ghost Fire was unlit, so the cave was dim and visibility was poor.
"You’re the best."
"You look so beautiful."
"I really like you."
He was lying on the ground next to the Level 2 Farmland, his cheek nearly pressed against the mud, sincerely and endlessly praising the Sunflower Seed buried in the soil. His voice had even grown a little hoarse from the constant talking.
This was a special Ghost Plant.
The more praise it received during its growth, the better its yield and grade would be.
The last Ghost Plant the Lord had given him, the "Meat Ghost Mother and Child Species," had matured prematurely due to the destruction of the old camp. Though he knew it wasn’t his fault, he was in charge of the Farmland, and couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt.
And so—
when the Lord entrusted him with this Sunflower Seed, he secretly resolved to nurture this Ghost Plant perfectly, without a single mistake.
It was just that...
he had never said such cheesy things before.
While he had gone from awkwardness to a certain fluency, his severely limited vocabulary prevented him from offering more advanced compliments. He planned to ask Lame Monkey for help once the Lord and the others returned. Among their group, Lame Monkey was the only one who had attended a Private School, making him the "cultured" one.
Just then—
a commotion was heard from outside the City Wall.
He listened closely and confirmed it was the Lord and his group returning, but after a moment’s hesitation, he decided not to go greet them. He had to finish his own duties first.
...
"..."
A wide smile on his face, Chen Fan stood outside the City Wall of Cave No. 1. With a thought, he made one side of the wall retract into the ground. Zhou Mo and the others picked up the boxes and headed for the Warehouse. He gazed into the dark cave, then turned thoughtfully to look at the crocodile lying on the ground behind him, waiting to be fed.
He needed some form of lighting.
’Those glowing stones embedded in the walls of that creature’s cave would be perfect.’
It’s just...
he felt a little too embarrassed to ask.
’It makes me feel like I’m raiding a friend’s house.’
Night was about to fall.
He decided against starting any major construction projects tonight. He would take stock of the camp’s resources and upgrade some of the basic buildings.
The second dung pit had yielded even more Ghost Stones—over a thousand more than the first one, which hadn’t even been full.
The camp now had a total of 12,975 Ghost Stones.
A single Level 5 Cannon Tower cost 480 Ghost Stones.
This batch of Ghost Stones was enough to build 27 of them.
He could build a formidable fire network along the cliffs surrounding the Celestial Pit.
Chen Fan looked at the buildings inside the cave, preparing to mass-upgrade the basic structures like the altar and Wooden Houses. Currently, the camp had three Stone Houses.
All of them were Level 3.
A Wooden House became a Stone House after being upgraded to Level 3, making it much sturdier.
Two were used for living quarters, and one served as a Warehouse.
’Let’s see what changes when I upgrade one to Level 4.’
After spending 50 Ghost Stones, the Wooden House he lived in was upgraded to Level 4.

[Wooden House upgraded to Level 4, becoming a ’Stone House’. Durability increased.]
[Please select an Upgrade Direction.]
[1: Life Workshop. Can produce daily life items.]
[2: Artifact Refining Workshop. Can forge Ghost Materials to create Spirit Treasures. Requires an Artifact Refiner.]
[3: Alchemy Workshop. Can refine Ghost Materials to create Elixirs. Requires an Alchemy Master.]

Chen Fan was slightly taken aback. He had expected the Level 4 upgrade to expand the area or increase the comfort level, not add new functions. There was no special qualitative change tag, which meant this was the standard upgrade path for all Wooden Houses reaching Level 4.
He immediately ruled out the last two options.
He didn’t have the necessary personnel for them yet.
He chose the first option without hesitation.
The next moment—
a spectral outline of the Stone House, composed of white lines, slowly materialized and began to reconfigure itself. When it solidified again, it was a world of difference from the original Stone House. The area was slightly larger, and it looked somewhat similar to a "Vehicle Workshop," though not as big.
Standing in front of the building, he could see a variety of equipment inside.
For example...
a sewing machine, a furnace, a hammer, and clothes hanging on a rack. Those linen clothes were the ones he had originally stored in this Wooden House.
He looked at the information panel for the "Life Workshop" before him.

Chen Fan retrieved a few Ghost Object Bones from the Warehouse, walked into the Life Workshop, and used a pair of tongs to place a bone into the workshop’s specialized furnace.
The bone quickly began to change color under the intense heat.
It didn’t melt.
Instead, it gradually started to turn blue.
He glanced up at the procedural steps for the "Token" posted on a Wooden Board inside. As soon as the bone turned completely blue, he quickly removed it, placed it on a nearby iron anvil, and began striking it repeatedly with a large hammer.
He struck it forty-nine times in a row.
The blue glow faded.
He quickly pricked his index finger, dripped a bit of blood onto it, and then plunged it into cold water to quench.
The next moment!
The Token was formed.
Like the "Ghost Map," it wasn’t an Exotic Treasure, and it certainly wasn’t a man-made Spirit Treasure. It had no grade.
Its only effect was—
The Token held a portion of the authority granted by the Architect "Chen Fan." Once bound to its first owner, the holder could use the permissions Chen Fan had granted to the Token, which were only effective on buildings under Chen Fan’s name.
