Chapter 216: Chapter 216: There is only one Evelyn Grant

"Ryan is still young, and his career is so successful now. There must be plenty of women willing to be with him! He has his whole life ahead of him. Who’s to say he won’t meet someone else who captures his heart soon? When that happens, all our problems will be solved." Mr. Sterling waved his hand dismissively. "Maybe it’s not as bad as you think! Is he really going to fall out with his parents over Evelyn Grant? Disown us?"

Florence Morgan sighed, "You didn’t see the look in his eyes when he talked about Eve! It’s... the kind of look you only see when someone is truly in love."

"So what if he’s in love? There’s only one Evelyn Grant!"

"..."

"Alright, stop agonizing over it! Just do as I say. Besides, I get sick often enough that Ryan will be more likely to believe it." Mr. Sterling didn’t want the plan to be exposed, which would ruin his relationship with his younger son.

But this was always a choice, and no matter which side they chose, the other was bound to get hurt.

It couldn’t be helped.

He and his wife had helped their older son many times before.

"If this time it’s really like Julian said—that if we can just get Ryan out of the country, he’ll definitely be able to remarry Evelyn Grant—then let’s take this one gamble! If it works, everything will be perfect."

The Sterling Family could finally be at peace.

And if it didn’t...

Then at least they, as parents, would know they had done everything they could. There was nothing else they could really do to help, nor should they.

Florence Morgan thought for a moment, then nodded. "Right now, there’s no better way. Since Julian said this would be the last time, and that he’s confident he can get Eve to remarry him, then let’s help him this once."

"I’ll call Ryan in a bit."

Mr. Sterling started to get up from the sofa, but Florence Morgan pulled him back. "You’re going to call him? Shouldn’t I be the one to do it? Aren’t you supposed to be sick?"

"...That’s true."

Mr. Sterling didn’t have much experience faking an illness.

Seeing her husband like this, Florence Morgan started to worry.

"Are you sure you can do this? Maybe I should be the one to fake it instead! Otherwise, when Ryan comes back, he’ll see you and know you don’t look sick at all!"

Mr. Sterling waved a hand. "Do I even need to pretend? You forget, I have high blood pressure."

"So?"

"All I have to do is skip my blood pressure medication a few times—"

Florence Morgan shot him a glare. "Our son only asked you to *pretend* to be sick to help him out, not to gamble with your life!"

’If their son and his ex-wife don’t end up remarrying, but Mr. Sterling ends up at Hell’s Gate because of this, that would be an absolute catastrophe!’

...

His return to the country had been an emergency to begin with.

Ryan Sterling had left a lot of unfinished work behind.

He had already promised to attend several meetings, but now that he was in the country and couldn’t leave, he had no choice but to cancel them.

In the business world, such an action was considered highly unprofessional.

But...

In Ryan Sterling’s eyes, anything related to Evelyn Grant took top priority.

When he received his mother’s call, Ryan Sterling was in the middle of a video conference.

He had several partners overseas, and since he couldn’t meet them in person, their only option was to discuss the general framework of their collaboration for the time being.

He heard his phone ring and glanced down at it.

Instead of answering right away, he sent his mother a text message.

Mom, I’m working.

A moment later, she replied.

Ryan, your dad’s condition flared up, and he’s been sent to the hospital! I can’t get ahold of your brother right now. Can you please put your work aside and come over? I can’t handle all this by myself!
