The secretary, arriving to deal with the matter, saw the whole scene unfold. He immediately pulled out his phone and started recording from a distance.

But Mr. Jacobs wasn’t actually trying to give the two young women a hard time. His only goal was to attract a bigger crowd.

He hurled a few insults at the young women, then let them go.

The secretary was just wondering how he could orchestrate an incident to get the old man arrested when suddenly, Mr. Jacobs spotted him!

"It’s you! I remember you. You’re one of Julian Sterling’s lackeys!"

Ordinarily, if Mr. Jacobs came storming over in a rage, the secretary would have known better than to stick around and would have quickly ducked away.

But this time... the situation was different.

He could only brace himself and stand his ground. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m here to warn you. Don’t go around slandering people—it’s illegal! If you keep this up, I’m calling the police!"

"The police? Go on, call them! It’s not like they haven’t arrested me already!" Mr. Jacobs said smugly, letting out a cold snort. "You’re only here saying this because you’ve got a guilty conscience! Julian Sterling sent you, didn’t he? If he’s scared, he should hurry up and hand over the money. I might let him off easy. Otherwise—"

He was completely oblivious to the approaching danger, assuming that if Julian Sterling had sent someone else, it must mean he was scared.

After all, a man in Julian Sterling’s position had to be afraid of people gossiping behind his back.

And most importantly, Mr. Jacobs was simply out of options.

His daughter was dead; he couldn’t have her ask Julian Sterling for money anymore. Other than taking this desperate gamble himself, what other choice did he have?

"What you’re doing is blackmail and extortion. Mr. Sterling doesn’t owe you any money, nor has he wronged you in any way. If you continue to harass him for money like this... we live in a society governed by law. I’m giving you one last warning."

Just as Mr. Jacobs was about to speak again, he caught sight of a black car out of the corner of his eye!

It pulled right up beside him. Two men in black got out, grabbed him on either side, and hauled him into the vehicle!

Mr. Jacobs panicked and immediately started shouting.

"Who are you! What do you think you’re doing?! This is kidnapping in broad daylight!"

The men in the car ignored him, slammed the door shut, and sped off.

"Help! Help! Murder! Julian Sterling is trying to have me killed!"

Terrified, Mr. Jacobs struggled for his life, trying to break free.

But his strength was no match for the two men.

"Keep yelling and we’ll throw you in the river to drown."

"...I-I won’t yell anymore." Terrified, Mr. Jacobs immediately shut his mouth.

As the car sped on, about to leave the city limits, Mr. Jacobs’s fear resurfaced.

"Did... did Julian Sterling really send you to kill me? I was wrong. I’ll never say he caused my daughter’s death again. Please, can you just let me go?"

"I’m begging you, please! I don’t want to die!"

He was so scared he nearly wet himself, but the men in the car paid him no mind, remaining completely silent.

The only sound in the silent car was Mr. Jacobs’s own voice.

"Can I call Julian Sterling? My daughter was the love of his life, really! You can ask him if you don’t believe me! He’s just angry right now. If I can just talk to him, I’m sure he’ll let me go!"

Still, no one responded.

Mr. Jacobs’s voice was trembling. "I’ll never do it again! I swear!"
