I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 164: The Child Is Already Gone
Chapter 164: Chapter 164: The Child Is Already Gone
"Yeah. This time, I’m going to do whatever it takes to win Evelyn Grant back. I’ll never find a wife as wonderful as her again."
After speaking, Julian Sterling’s gaze shifted toward the bedroom.
’Just knowing she was in there made this house... suddenly feel whole again!’
’That’s more important than anything.’
It made Julian Sterling feel that all of a sudden, this house was finally a home.
Not just a cold, empty place to rest his head.
...
Ryan Sterling felt like he was going to lose his mind.
Especially when Evelyn Grant’s hospital record for her miscarriage was placed before him. For a moment, he even stopped breathing.
The medical report itself was short, but Ryan Sterling read it three times.
He read it over and over, trying to find some flaw, some discrepancy to prove this record wasn’t Evelyn Grant’s—that the child who had been lost wasn’t the one he had been so desperately looking forward to.
But...
There was no miracle.
Even the gestational age recorded for the miscarriage matched perfectly with how far along Evelyn Grant was in her pregnancy.
This was Evelyn Grant’s record.
And the child was gone.
Clutching the report, Ryan Sterling boarded a flight home. He didn’t close his eyes or say a single word for the entire journey.
’I have to find Evelyn Grant.’
’I have to ask her. I need to hear her say it with her own lips—that everything she said before, about wanting to be with me, about wanting to bring this child into the world safe and sound... was all a lie.’
’That she was just fooling me.’
...
Julian Sterling didn’t dare leave Evelyn Grant’s side.
He just stood by the bed, watching her from deep in the night until the sun came up.
It wasn’t that he was trying to put on a show of devotion. The simple feeling of having Evelyn Grant by his side was just too good.
He was afraid that if he walked away, or once Evelyn woke up, he wouldn’t get to have a moment like this again anytime soon.
Julian Sterling could lie to his mother and he could lie to everyone else, but he was perfectly clear on one thing!
Evelyn Grant had well and truly given up on him.
She didn’t want to stay by his side.
The moment she woke, she would be demanding to leave, unwilling to stay a second longer.
But, people have to wake up eventually.
Evelyn Grant’s fingertips twitched, and Julian Sterling’s keen senses caught the movement instantly.
He immediately stood up, walked over, and said gently, "Eve? Are you awake?"
She didn’t open her eyes right away, as if waking up was a slow process.
After about a minute, Evelyn Grant’s eyelids fluttered and then slowly opened.
’This ceiling...’
’It looks familiar.’
Evelyn Grant had lived in this room for many years, after all.
"Eve?"
Hearing the voice, she slowly turned her head.
When she saw Julian Sterling, her expression was dazed.
But soon, her memories came flooding back.
"The baby... My baby..."
"..."
The moment she mentioned that "bastard child," Julian Sterling’s expression instantly hardened.
"You... you killed my baby, Julian Sterling. Get out... I don’t want to see you!"
"I didn’t kill that child! It never should have existed in the first place!" he retorted, his eyes turning cold. "You are my wife! Having a baby with my own brother—isn’t that just stomping all over my last shred of dignity? I would never have let that child be born, and I will never let the two of you be together!"
Evelyn Grant had no desire to listen to his twisted logic.
She struggled, trying to sit up.
But Julian Sterling grabbed her by the wrist and forced her back down. "Where do you think you’re going? This is your home! I won’t let you leave!"
