I Became the Villain Alpha's Omega (BL)
Chapter 430: The World in His Hands
From the moment Cherion Antel had first set foot in the North, Zarius had known there was something deeply unusual about him.
The initial intelligence reports sent from had described a shallow, spoiled, and thoroughly obnoxious young noble, someone who threw wild tantrums over spilled tea and lacked both the spine and the intelligence to navigate high society. Yet the man who had actually arrived at the Valtrane estate was the complete opposite. He was quick-witted, remarkably resilient, possessed an astonishing reservoir of holy healing power he barely seemed to comprehend, and carried an unshakeable, quiet warmth that constantly pulled people toward him.
At first, Zarius had assumed it was all an elaborate facade. A clever, calculated act designed to manipulate the north and lower his guard. He had watched Cherion like a hawk, dissecting every glance, every hesitant step, and every absurd, nonsensical phrase that slipped out whenever Cherion dropped his defense. Odd words like Taco Hell or references to incomprehensible concepts had tumbled out of his mouth with total casualness, leaving Zarius to silently wonder what kind of obscure southern dialect could produce such nonsense.
As weeks turned into months, however, those suspicions had slowly withered away. The need to categorize, analyze, and dissect Cherion’s strangeness had simply vanished. None of it mattered anymore. Cherion was his. He was alive, he was here, and he belonged by Zarius’s side, that was the only truth Zarius cared to know or understand.
Yet sitting in the quiet afternoon warmth of their bedroom, listening to Cherion’s hesitant, trembling voice lay everything bare, the final pieces of the puzzle slammed into place with breathtaking clarity.
Cherion wasn’t the original southern noble. His soul belonged to a man from another world entirely, a distant, peaceful land without magic, holy power, or dominant Alpha ruts, and this entire kingdom, the North, the royal court, and every life within it was nothing more than a written story. A novel.
It was an outrageous, mind-bending concept that should have sounded like the ramblings of a feverish mind. But to Zarius’s sharp, analytical mind, it suddenly explained everything.
It explained why Cherion had known about the hidden, eating curse consuming Zarius’s body that not even physicians had been unable to uncover. It explained why Cherion handled his own monumental healing power with such awkward, trial-and-error clumsiness, looking surprised every time his light mended a wound. And above all, it explained why Cherion treated Yerel, the man Cherion had allegedly been madly, pathetically obsessed with, like a minor annoyance he would rather step over in the street.
That strange, lingering feeling Zarius had occasionally felt around Cherion, the quiet, wistful look in his eyes when he stared at the horizon, finally made complete sense. Cherion hadn’t just been adjusting to a new home. He had been trying to survive inside a world made of paper and ink.
They lay together on the mattress, facing each other as the last golden light filtered through the linen curtains. Cherion lay propped on his side, one arm folded to support his head against the plush pillow, his silver hair falling messily across his forehead.
Zarius had his head propped up on one hand, his elbow resting on the mattress. His other arm curled loosely around Cherion’s waist, his thumb slowly tracing small, reassuring circles against his side.
Cherion was still speaking, his voice quiet as he filled in the blanks. "Yerel and Philia were the main characters," Cherion explained, his fingers absently picking at a loose thread on the blanket. "The whole plot revolved around the two of them, their romance, the political struggles in the capital, and eventually saving the kingdom from catastrophe."
Cherion paused, a faint, self-deprecating flush creeping up his neck to the tips of his ears. He looked away, his voice dropping into a shy, embarrassed mutter. "To be completely honest... I only even started reading that stupid novel because one of the characters shared my exact name. I never in a million years thought I’d end up waking up inside his body. It was an absolute nightmare."
He shot a quick sideways glance at Zarius, his expression softening as he reached out and lightly jabbed two fingers into Zarius’s cheek. "Though... ugh, I guess if I hadn’t gotten dumped into this mess, I never would have met you."
Before Zarius could react to the adorable, sudden confession, Cherion hastily pulled his hand back, clearing his throat awkwardly as if trying to pretend he hadn’t just said something sweet.
Zarius’s thumb continued its steady, soothing circle over Cherion’s hip. "And what about my role?" Zarius asked smoothly, his eyes locking onto Cherion’s face. "If the prince was the grand hero of your story... where did I fit into this narrative?"
Cherion went entirely quiet. The lingering warmth in his eyes flickered, replaced by a sudden, heavy shadow of hesitation. He bit the inside of his lip, staring down at the bedsheets between them.
Zarius let out a low, quiet breath, sounding remarkably calm. "Not a good one, I take it?"
"Not... really," Cherion admitted quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. "Much like how things are now, you were enemies with the crown. The North stood against the capital. In the original plot, the Valtrane ducal house was written as the grand threat to the kingdom."
Cherion’s fingers tightened against the mattress sheet. "You were supposed to win, Zarius. Mechanically, strategically, and militarily, you had every advantage. You should have crushed his forces easily. But... as the story dragged on, you became severely ill from the curse. You grew weaker every month while the capital built their alliances."
Cherion swallowed hard, his breath hitching in his throat. "In the end... you perished under Yerel’s hand."
Zarius stayed completely still. He didn’t flinch, nor did his pulse jump. Instead, a tiny smirk touched the corner of his lips. "Well. Yerel really was a suitable protagonist after all."
Cherion’s head snapped up, staring at him in utter disbelief.
Zarius met his wide eyes with an amused, calm gaze. "What? Isn’t that how these tales usually go? He is the crown prince, and princes are destined to overcome the dark enemy standing in their way. But it is quite a shame that at the very end, I got killed by his..."
Before he could finish the sentence, Cherion lunged forward slightly, pressing his index finger firmly against Zarius’s lips, physically cutting off the word.
"Don’t," Cherion hissed, his eyes flashing with a sudden, fierce protectiveness. "Don’t just say it like it’s a joke."
Zarius didn’t pull back. Instead, he reached up, his hand wrapping gently around Cherion’s wrist. He slowly guided Cherion’s finger away from his mouth, bringing his hand up to press a warm, lingering kiss against the back of his knuckles.
"...in the story," Zarius finished the sentence softly.
He kept his grip firm around Cherion’s hand, holding it right over his own steady, beating heart.
"I have no intention of letting that happen," Zarius murmured, his eyes staring directly into Cherion’s soul. "Paper and ink carry no power here, Cherion. This is real. You are here, I am holding you, and everything we have built is real. It is not merely a story anymore."
Cherion stared at him for a long moment, the tightness in his chest slowly easing as Zarius’s words sank in. He let out a soft, shaky breath and nodded firmly.
"Yeah," Cherion whispered, his fingers curling tightly around Zarius’s hand. "You have to stay alive. You can’t let that fate touch you."
"I won’t," Zarius replied, pulling Cherion an inch closer until their chests were practically touching, his arm wrapping securely around his waist. "And neither will you. I won’t let a single scratch come to you, no matter what this world tries to write."
