I Became the Eye Candy: Four Bigshots Claimed to be My Dad?
Chapter 770: Back Then, He Also Risked His Life to Save Me
"Dad, you all take a seat. I’ll go get you some sobering soup."
"That’s not necessary. You sit down too, daughter. I’m really not drunk," Xiang Minghou said, pulling her down to sit.
Ye Qianning could tell from his voice that her father really wasn’t drunk. Still, after so much alcohol, he’d probably have a headache after sleeping. She reached into her storage space and took out several pills.
"Mr. Zhan, Mr. Qian, Mr. Gu, take these. They’ll help settle your stomachs."
Zhan Chi took the bottle. He shook one pill into his mouth, then poured one out for Qian Fanji and another for Gu Shuo before handing the bottle back to her.
Ye Qianning poured out a pill and handed it to Xiang Minghou.
Xiang Minghou glanced at it. "I don’t need it. I’m not drunk." 𝔣𝖗ⅇℯ
"Even if you’re not drunk, it’ll help settle your stomach."
Xiang Minghou took it and tossed it into his mouth.
"What about the guests outside?" Elder Chen asked.
"The lightweights have already left, and the heavy drinkers are all passed out," Qian Fanji said. "The kitchen prepared sobering soup, and the Xianyue Sect will see everyone to an inn. Don’t worry, Elder Chen."
"Is the Xi Yan Crown Prince drunk as well?"
"It seems he’s still going."
Elder Chen frowned. "Make sure nothing goes wrong. Have the Xianyue Sect keep a closer watch. As for the Eighth Prince, I can see he’s nothing like he used to be. He’s not the stable sort. And the Xi Yan Crown Prince is unfathomable. His visit to Dayu City is definitely not for simple reasons."
At the mention of Sang Zhi, Xiang Minghou looked at his daughter. "I can see the Eighth Prince has designs on you."
"Dad, you’re worrying too much," Ye Qianning said with a laugh.
"No, I’m not. I’m a good judge of character."
"Little lass, even though the Eighth Prince seems to listen to you now, I still advise you not to get too close to him." Zhan Chi sounded very concerned at the mention of Sang Zhi.
"Dads, you don’t have to worry. Sang Zhi listens to me because of what happened back then at Four-direction Mountain. You all know that I saved him, but you don’t know that he also risked his life to save me." Ye Qianning felt a little guilty about Sang Zhi. "He’s a good person."
’Her initial reason for getting close to Sang Zhi back then was the sudden, explosive growth of her storage space; she had protected him like that because she wanted to restore her body.’
’But Sang Zhi had been different. He had risked his life because he truly wanted her to live, even if it meant his own death. That debt of friendship had been buried deep in her heart ever since.’
"He risked his life to save you?" Xiang Minghou was stunned.
"Yes. I know you all can’t let go of what happened back then and are afraid of history repeating itself. Dad, I promise, something like that will never happen again."
Qian Fanji, Gu Shuo, and Zhan Chi had been at Four-direction Mountain as well. They weren’t entirely sure what had happened at the start, but they had seen many of the events that followed.
"It’s still best to be cautious when it comes to the Eighth Prince. It’s always wise to be guarded," said Qian Fanji, ever the most level-headed.
’Back then, the Eighth Prince had truly cared for the little lass, but who knew what he was like now.’
’The boy from back then had grown up. After ten years in the depths of the palace, there was no telling what kind of person he had become. They had to be on their guard.’
Dean Chen nodded slightly. "Qian Fanji has a point. Lass, you must be extra vigilant."
"Yes."
Ye Qianning agreed.
"And that goes for the rest of you," Elder Chen said, turning to chide them. "Stop being so hostile toward the Eighth Prince. You’re putting the little lass in a difficult position. Especially you, Xiang Minghou. Even though I don’t know martial arts, I can sense that you two are covertly testing each other."
Xiang Minghou said nothing, his face set in a deep scowl.
Ye Qianning rose from her chair, took two steps back, and knelt.
Her action stunned the five men in the room.
"Daughter, what are you doing?" Xiang Minghou shot to his feet and rushed forward to help her up.
Elder Chen, Qian Fanji, Zhan Chi, and Gu Shuo all rose to their feet in unison.
