I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village
Chapter 1200, Min’s New Work
Translator: Silavin
Inside the Yong’an Building, Su Bai was going through the Tribe’s documents.
Ever since the snow had fully melted, there had been far more things to manage.
Chief among everything was the Tribe’s development, and it had to advance across all fronts.
“Shaman, what are you working on?” Yu Ying asked, blinking her pink eyes.
Yu Ying had been watching him sit there and work since early morning. She had not wanted to disturb him, so she had simply stayed nearby, keeping his tea topped up.
“I am looking at the shops the Tribe needs to open. Right now, we only have the noodle shop, the barbecue shop, and the bun shop. There are really far too few food stalls.” Su Bai said without looking up, still writing and sketching on Wolf Tail Grass Paper with great concentration.
“What other shops does the Shaman want to open? Why the sudden thought of adding more?” Yu Ying asked, swishing her fox tail.
“After a full year of laying the groundwork, more and more people will keep coming to the Flame Dragon Tribe. A handful of shops will not be enough.”
Su Bai put down his brush and looked up. “When the crowds get large, queues will form. Some people might not get to eat until nightfall.”
Never mind the future, even now there were long queues on a regular basis. It was not only people from other Tribes who wanted to eat there. The Flame Dragon Tribe’s own people queued too.
There were days when someone could spend an entire day waiting in line. And that was before the Flame Dragon Tribe’s reputation had truly spread.
“I see. If more shops are not opened, some of the people who do not get their food might do something rash.” Yu Ying understood immediately.
Some might feel that it was not so serious, that it was only a meal, surely nothing too drastic would come of it.
But this was the Primitive Era. Most people had not been shaped by any kind of culture, and had no real sense of restraint. For most of them, eating was their primary faith. If someone queued for an entire day and still did not get to eat the food they wanted, there was a genuine possibility they would do something that could not be undone.
“Yes. And our Tribe has been expanding steadily, so there is now enough space to open more shops. Of course I want the range of food to be richer.” Su Bai said quietly.
He felt that the Tribe, as it currently stood, was not yet ready to be called a city in name. With barely a handful of food stalls, it looked nothing like a prosperous, modern city.
Before the name was changed, the variety of food had to grow first. People needed more choices, not just the same two or three options every time.
“Shaman, what foods are being considered for the new shops this time?” Yu Ying asked with great curiosity.
Yu Ying was an enthusiastic cook. She had always had a fondness for cooking, and the food she made was genuinely delicious. Naturally, anything to do with food caught her interest.
“Shaman, Ah’Ying, is there anything I can help with?” Min said, bowing her head slightly as she stepped in.
She had finished making breakfast that morning and had stayed behind to tidy the kitchen and prepare the ingredients for the midday meal.
Min had caught the conversation just as she carried out the dessert, and since she too had a keen interest in food, she wondered if there was something she could help with.
She and Yu Ying were the same age, and they had agreed between themselves to address each other this way so that they would not feel too distant.
“Oh, that is right. Ah’Min’s cooking is also very good. Perhaps she really can help with this.” Yu Ying’s eyes lit up at once.
“That is exactly what I was thinking. I was going to call you in shortly to talk about the shops. You have come at just the right time.” Su Bai straightened up and said.
The reason he had arranged for Min to take charge of the daily meals at the Yong’an Building was partly to give Yu Ying an extra pair of hands, but the more important reason was to nurture someone.
Yu Ying would always be at his side. She would not be sent out to work elsewhere. Min was different. She had a Younger Sister, and her future had to be considered.
“The shops? Does the Shaman want me to manage those food stalls?” Min could hardly believe what she had just heard.
“Exactly. I could not find anyone more suited for it in the whole Tribe. You have learnt so many recipes. I trust you can do this.” Su Bai smiled and nodded.
“Yes, your cooking is great, and you are also fast at learning. You have also been at the Yong’an Building long enough to show your skills.” Yu Ying nodded emphatically, then added. “In fact, if you are not up to it, then there is truly no one else suited for this.”
Yu Ying knew full well why Min had taken over her own previous work. It had been for exactly this moment. In a way, it had been preparation all along.
“The list of shops to be opened this time is actually quite a long one. If you feel you are not up to it, or if you are worried about how tiring it will be, you may say so. That is perfectly fine.”
Su Bai smiled with great understanding, then turned serious and continued. “But think it over carefully. You have a Little Sister. You need to think about what is best for both of you.”
He did not want to put pressure on her, but she was a genuinely capable person. At this point, all he could do was retreat in order to advance.
Su Bai also wanted to see both Sisters do well in the future. They had been at his side all this time, and he naturally wanted them to give it proper thought.
If Min did not take this position and chose instead to remain working at the Yong’an Building, it would likely be a very long time before the two Sisters could afford a home and live the kind of life others would envy.
“Shaman, I want to do it. Not only for the two of us, but because I want to do something for the Shaman. You have spent so long cultivating me, and it is time to give something back to the Tribe.”
Min thought it over at length before answering with genuine seriousness. Her determination was clear from her expression alone.
“That is what I wanted to hear. Your Younger Sister’s work will be in higher demand in the future. The main thing is that you, as the Older Sister, cannot afford to hold her back. So you will have to work hard as well.”
Su Bai gave her head a satisfied pat and continued. “You should know that I arranged work personally for both of you Sisters. An opportunity this well-suited to you is not something to let slip by.”
He knew that both of them were young, and that young people often did not think too far ahead. At a moment like this, it fell to him to help.
“Shaman, what shops are being opened this time? I would like to properly go over the recipes for everything beforehand.” Min asked with curiosity.
“The shops being considered include pizza, fried rice, milk tea, light and sweet dishes, spicy dishes, roasted sweet potato, a porridge stall, and a pancake shop, among others. All things you already know how to make.” Su Bai blinked his deep eyes and continued. “What I need from you is not someone to do the menial work. I need you to lead a team, to teach the others, to be the Head Manager of all these shops.”
“This position oversees the staff of every single shop. You will need to be mentally prepared.” Yu Ying quickly added.
“Yes.” Min tensed up at once.
