I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends
Chapter 433: Waiting, Miss Qiu
On Taoyuan Bridge, the river wind blew in gusts. More than a dozen Miracle Order followers hurried along, whispering among themselves.
“Do you know what the current bounty is for Gou Meng and Fuyang’s power?” The leading follower asked, feigning mystery.
Seeing everyone silent and casting curious glances his way, a smile flickered in his eyes beneath the hood. “Latest news: a single complete power goes for 1.5 billion US dollars, or two hundred core entities produced by Class C or higher hauntings, or equivalent alchemical materials. Partial powers are reduced proportionally.”
“This time, as long as we can somehow get more than 10% of the power, there’s hope for the Order’s revival.”
“We can do it!” One follower excitedly punched the air. “Heavenly Father is with us, miracles are with us, rekindling the miracle’s glory is our duty!”
“To rekindle the miracle’s glory, it is our-” The Miracle Order members shouted in unison, high-spirited, but before they could finish, a girl’s shout rang out not far away.
With her shout, a speeding truck roared past, and in an instant, several followers were sent flying like bowling pins.
The nearly out-of-control truck, after knocking several Miracle Order followers aside, continued forward and crashed headlong into the steel frame of Taoyuan Bridge, erupting in a thunderous boom.
“Boom-!”
The impacted steel frame twisted and deformed, pulling at thick steel cables with a teeth-grinding screech. In a flash, two cables snapped, whipping wildly like rampaging dragons, lashing the bridge deck, carving deep grooves and sending gravel and dust swirling through the air.Smashing through the glass curtain wall supported by the aluminum alloy frame, shards of glass flew everywhere as the truck slammed into an extremely sturdy wedge-shaped load-bearing pillar in the entrance hall.
The entire bridge shook, as if struck by a minor earthquake. The Miracle Order followers fled in panic, hiding themselves within the bridge’s structure.
After a while, when the tremors from the truck’s crash gradually subsided, a Miracle Order follower cautiously poked his head out from behind a stone pillar, looking toward the truck.
The truck’s cab was twisted and deformed from the collision, the engine sparking, the radiator blown apart, white steam billowing everywhere. Yet inside the cab, it was pitch black-completely empty.
“Did you see clearly? Who attacked us?” the leading follower whispered.
“There’s… there’s no one in the cab…”
“No one? How could that be?” the leader asked in confusion.
Could this truck have driven itself here?
A runaway truck, like a wild beast, trying to hunt humans-could this be some bizarre haunting?
While the Miracle Order followers were still puzzled, a strong wind swept over their heads. A slender figure, wielding a Broken Sword, descended from above, landing in the midst of five followers hiding in the shadows.
Her footsteps sounded as she landed. The five froze, just about to turn and fight back, when a fierce blow struck the backs of their heads.
“Bang bang bang bang bang-!”
Five muffled thuds almost merged into one. All five dropped to the ground.
“A bunch of people with psychic energy fluctuation of only 0.5 to 0.7 old rabbits, and you still want to join the fun?” Lu Yibei rolled her eyes at the five unconscious Miracle Order followers.
“Tsk, I really want to know-how do you manage to be so ordinary and yet so confident?”
As she spoke, she suddenly turned her head, looking at a stone pier several meters away. Raising an eyebrow, several Paper Cicada Immortals shot out from the truck’s cargo hold, chasing after the half-hidden figure behind the stone pier.
The next moment, violent explosions and screams erupted almost simultaneously from behind the stone pier…
The roar of the blast filled her ears. Lu Yibei shrank her neck, glanced around, and seeing no witnesses to her unlicensed driving and hit-and-run, sprang into action. She hid the dozen or so dead or unconscious Miracle Order followers and casually cast several sealing spell formations.
After finishing the necessary cleanup, she climbed along the bridge’s steel cables to the maintenance platform she’d scouted earlier, dozens of meters above ground, concealing her psychic energy fluctuation and presence.
The Miracle Order followers she’d just knocked out had obviously weak psychic energy fluctuations. Lu Yibei was confident she could win a direct confrontation, and, feeling a bit excited, had chosen to crash the truck in.
Who knew what kind of enemies might appear next!
Terrain advantage, the enemy in the open and herself in the dark, plus Paper Cicada Immortals for remote attacks-if she didn’t use these advantages, she’d be a fool.
I’m not a Miracle Order member anyway… Lu Yibei thought.
–
Under the night sky, cold winds swept through Tang City, and snowflakes fluttered down like white butterflies, quietly landing and coating the city in a layer of pure white.
Outside the vault of a bank on the outskirts of Tang City, a shrill sound erupted on the empty street.
Amid the white snow whipped up by the fierce wind, a figure carrying a giant golden gourd on his shoulder suddenly appeared. The gourd was hurled forward like a bolt of lightning, smashing down in midair, and a series of sharp, glass-shattering cracks echoed down the street ahead.
With the crisp sound, the snow-covered street scene instantly shattered, revealing more than a dozen hidden, sinister figures, each with a spell formation at the ready in their hands.
“One person? Just one person dares to intercept over a dozen of us?”
“Hahaha, The Midnight Watchers Society is getting more and more arrogant these days, huh?!” sneered a psychic with a sallow face and messy hair, drawing raucous laughter from the other psychics and hauntings with him.
In the next instant, more than a dozen spell formations shot out at once.
Colorful streams of light flew like arrows, illuminating the face of Jin Jiao, but he only curled his lip, unhurriedly hoisted the golden gourd onto his shoulder, pulled out the stopper, and began to chant with a calm air.
“Heavenly spirits, earthly spirits, precious gourd, show your power; heavenly spirits, earthly spirits, precious gourd, show your power…”
As Jin Jiao murmured, the air in front of him suddenly trembled, as if pulled taut in an instant. The next moment, a golden vortex appeared at the mouth of the gourd, and with a “whoosh!” all the spell formation lights vanished before him.
“Clang, clang-!”
Jin Jiao gently shook the gourd, producing a muffled thud, as if something hard was knocking around inside. Then he slapped the gourd sharply, and with a sticky squelch, the mouth of the gourd suddenly opened, revealing crimson flesh and gleaming white fangs.
The next moment, a dazzling golden light burst from the gourd, then rapidly contracted, like a beast opening and closing its maw, devouring its prey.
Under the golden light, a brutal roar erupted on the street.
Wails rang out, followed by a series of bone-crunching screams and the sickening sound of blood splattering.
When those terrifying sounds faded, the street was empty; the dozen or so psychics and hauntings had vanished without a trace, and even the snow on the roadside was swept clean.
“Burp-!”
A deep, satisfied belch came from the gourd in Jin Jiao’s arms.
Jin Jiao wiped the blood and tissue from the gourd’s mouth, spat disdainfully, “Tch, what’s the use of numbers!”
“If The Midnight Watchers Society isn’t arrogant, should we let you petty, sneaky bastards be arrogant instead?”
As he spoke, he gently stroked the gourd in his arms and muttered to himself, “Thirteen, including a most-wanted with psychic energy fluctuation level B-. With this batch done, my spot in this year’s top ten operators is as good as secured. How wonderful…”
–
Lu Yibei had been lying in wait on the maintenance platform for about ten minutes. After the Miracle Order cultists, a second group of Centaurs finally appeared at the head of Taoyuan Bridge.
What appeared on the bridge was a hunched shadow, reeking of stench, with three pairs of scythe-like arms growing from its torso, scuttling across the bridge like a spider. Behind it followed a swarm of bizarre spiders with human heads, numbering over fifty at a glance.
The large ones had psychic energy fluctuations equivalent to two old rabbits, the small ones about 0.3 old rabbits…
She’d need about fifty Paper Cicada Immortals, but to be safe, she’d have to use eighty.
Lu Yibei quickly calculated the enemy’s strength. With a thought, dozens of pale Paper Cicada Immortals shot up from the cargo truck’s container, swooping down among the swarm of hauntings.
“Boom-!”
With a roar, flames surged up, and thick smoke shrouded the bridge.
Using the smoke as cover, Lu Yibei swiftly leapt from the maintenance platform, sprinted down the bridge’s steel cables, and charged into the swarm of hauntings, anticipating their movements and slaying those that survived the explosions one by one.
After cutting through the group twice to ensure there were no survivors, she immediately unleashed two amplified red flame flashes, incinerating the corpses of the hauntings, then quickly returned to the maintenance platform to hide once more.
She had to be fast; every ambush had to be swift and decisive.
Otherwise, if she was caught fighting the enemies on the bridge, she might be discovered by those arriving later and end up surrounded.
Even if she finished off one wave, being seen afterward would mean losing the initiative and putting herself in danger, Lu Yibei thought.
–
Tang City, Quansheng Apartment Complex, inside a certain residence.
A young woman, having stayed up late to finish her work, collapsed wearily onto her bed.
Tonight, like thousands of nights before, was just another ordinary evening for her. She turned off the lights, habitually placed her phone beside her pillow, and began to drift toward sleep.
After a few minutes of silence, just as she was about to fall asleep, her phone by the pillow suddenly chimed with Siri’s response tone.
“Ding ding-!”
“I’m glad to see you too!”
Why did the phone suddenly… Half-asleep, the woman frowned, struggling to lift her eyelids and glance at the phone by her pillow, but she was too tired. She took one look and closed her eyes again.
Forget it, it’s probably nothing. Maybe I misheard.
As she thought this, the mechanical voice sounded from her phone again.
“Haven’t you noticed yet?”
In an instant, something flashed through the woman’s mind. She jolted awake, scrambled to the other end of the bed, and stared at the phone hidden in the darkness by her pillow, all sleep gone.
Just then, a dark shadow swept past the window.
“Report: all hauntings around Quansheng Apartment Complex have been cleared, thirteen hauntings eliminated…”
In the howling cold wind, someone murmured softly, fading into the distance.
–
Tang City Fifth People’s Hospital, 5th floor.
A faint scent of disinfectant lingered in the empty corridor. A doctor in a white coat hurried past, looking like she was ready to go home.
As she reached the elevator doors, footsteps sounded behind her. A nurse rushed over and joined the doctor in the elevator, heading down to the first floor together.
However, when the elevator reached the first floor, the indicator light went out, but the doors didn’t open. Instead, it continued descending until it reached the second basement level. Suddenly, the elevator doors opened, and a woman in white appeared before them, head bowed, saying she wanted to get on.
Seeing this, the doctor’s expression changed drastically, and she quickly closed the elevator doors.
“Doctor? Why didn’t you let her in?” the nurse asked in confusion.
The doctor wiped the sweat from her forehead and said, “The second basement level is our hospital’s morgue. Every corpse in the hospital has a red string tied to its right hand. That little girl had a red string on her right hand…”
Upon hearing this, the nurse grinned wickedly. Her face gradually turned pale, then dark red corpse spots appeared. She slowly extended her right hand, “Doctor, is it… a string like this…”
“Clack-!”
Before the nurse could finish, a dragon-patterned shackle covered in red rust snapped onto her wrist.
“Dear, it should be a string just like this!” The doctor gave the nurse a gentle smile. “Your psychic energy fluctuation isn’t that strong, but you’re still a widely known old haunting. You should know what’s about to happen, right?”
She tilted her decaying head, sunken eyes staring at the doctor. Her face was covered in pale maggots and utter confusion.
“Still don’t get it? To put it simply, The Midnight Watchers Society is handling a case! Please try to keep your voice down later. If anyone else in the hospital hears, it’ll be a real hassle for me.”
Nurse, “…”
“Dragon Severing Lock, open!” the doctor growled. In an instant, dazzling golden light burst from the red rust on the dragon-patterned shackle.
“Ah-!”
Amidst a shrill scream, the doctor gently stroked the Death Owl Emblem inside her white coat and said solemnly, “Reporting in, Tang City Fifth People’s Hospital, handled.”
–
After Lu Yibei finished off the fifth wave of enemies, the situation she least wanted to see still happened.
She was caught destroying the corpses.
It was all because of those aberrant type hauntings she’d just killed, the ones with colorful mushroom heads. Who knew what their bodies were made of? They looked hideous, but when roasted by the flames stirred up by the spell formation, an irresistible aroma wafted out.
It was a scent-shiitake mushrooms mixed with minced lamb, seasoned with garlic paste, ginger, scallions, a touch of fennel seeds, cumin, and Sichuan pepper powder, all grilled over bamboo charcoal. There was even a hint of black truffle aroma, making one crave a hearty feast.
How could she identify so many aromas?
As the sole heir of Lu’s Sichuan Restaurant, Lu Yibei’s nose was extremely sensitive. Sometimes she even thought, if she’d been born in a world where culinary skill was king, she might have earned the title “Godly Nose of Hua City,” becoming a formidable obstacle on the protagonist’s journey.
She knew full well that aberrant type hauntings couldn’t be eaten, even if roasted. Even if they could, now was not the time for food. But after catching a whiff of that rich aroma, her chef’s soul stirred restlessly. Unable to resist, she leaned close to an arm, fanned it, sniffed it using the standard posture for smelling chemicals, and her mind went hazy.
It was in those brief two or three seconds of daze that hurried footsteps suddenly sounded from the bridge.
Lu Yibei snapped her head up, steadied herself, and saw several black-clad psychics burst into view.
“……”
Damn, she’d let herself get distracted by the aroma of those roasted mushroom monsters and hadn’t hidden in time. This was bad. Lu Yibei thought nervously, narrowing her eyes.
That group of black-clad psychics were bounty hunters who’d banded together through secret channels of illegal psychic organizations. The highest psychic energy fluctuation level among them was only Class B-. They’d planned to sneak into Taoyuan amid the chaos and fish for some easy loot.
They’d long heard that Taoyuan was full of treasures. Even if they couldn’t snatch the “inheritance” of Gou Meng or Fuyang, grabbing some other goodies would still net them a fortune.
However, what they hadn’t expected was to encounter such a terrifying existence halfway there.
In the wind and snow, a seductive figure with a frosty face gradually appeared. As their psychic sense swept over her, they detected at least a Class B psychic energy fluctuation level. Around her lay corpses of mushroom-headed hauntings, strewn everywhere, all dead in gruesome ways.
Even more frightening, she was holding a roasted human arm, and even from a distance, they could smell the enticing aroma wafting from the carefully cooked limb…
This… something seemed seriously wrong here?
Was she… eating corpses?
Holy crap, holy crap! She’s coming over!
Seeing the round-faced, chestnut-haired girl approaching, the bounty hunters’ pupils shrank. Then someone shouted, “Run!” and they all turned and fled in panic.
Lu Yibei, “???”
–
On the Tang City ring road, in a black SUV, the Death Owl Emblem on Xing Yuan’s chest vibrated incessantly, reports of various The Midnight Watchers Society operators completing their missions echoing in her ears. She secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
So far, the plan to have Golden Horn lead a third of the people into Tang City to hunt down hauntings and psychics who had infiltrated the city seemed fairly successful.
Although most of the hauntings and psychics who sneaked into the city were just opportunists with generally weak psychic energy fluctuation levels, in Xing Yuan’s view, they were no less of a threat than those desperadoes heading straight for Taoyuan.
After all, those desperadoes, aside from posing a huge threat to Taoyuan, actually caused limited damage to the city itself. But if those who took advantage of the chaos were allowed to run wild in the city, by dawn, they could easily cause over a hundred violent cases.
In the past, under Gou Meng’s leadership, there were almost no vicious incidents of hauntings devouring psychic potential bearers around Tang City. Over time, the number of psychic potential bearers in the area was several times that of other cities.
Now, with the news of Gou Meng’s fall long since spread, those hauntings came to Tang City as if it were an all-you-can-eat buffet, crunching down one after another.
Fortunately, the operators scattered throughout the city kept reporting outstanding mission completion, which made Xing Yuan feel much more at ease. She could finally focus on dealing with those tough characters heading for Taoyuan.
“Xing Yuan, listen to me! I really was just on a road trip, and it’s not my fault, I just…”
Hearing Bai Kai’s rambling in her ear, Xing Yuan glared at him and interrupted, “If it’s not your fault, whose is it?”
“Li Xuan’s fault!” Bai Kai didn’t even think before shifting the blame to Li Xuan. “He kept showing off his new car in front of me, said it was perfect for road trips, and egged me on to try it.”
“He just told you to try it, and you drove all the way to Tang City?” Xing Yuan said coldly.
“I… I just accidentally…”
Xing Yuan looked at Bai Kai, her red lips parting as she was about to say something, when the Death Owl Emblem on her chest suddenly vibrated violently. Silver Horn’s voice immediately sounded in her ear.
“Madam Inspector-General, we’ve got all the intel now, just compiled ten minutes ago. Taking advantage of the city barrier’s cooldown, a total of 177 psychics and hauntings with psychic energy fluctuation level B- and above infiltrated Tang City. All have been located, 148 successfully subdued, 29 killed.”
“Among those with psychic energy fluctuation level A- and above, there are sixteen psychics or hauntings. Six have been killed, seven successfully subdued…”
Listening to Silver Horn’s report through the Death Owl Emblem, Xing Yuan couldn’t help but interrupt, “Wait!? What about the other three? They’re out of monitoring range.”
“Uh…” Silver Horn paused and explained, “Madam Inspector-General, those three headed west. The west side has already fallen, we’ve suffered heavy losses, and there’s no one left to follow them! Also…”
“Also what?” Xing Yuan pressed.
“Ahem…” Silver Horn cleared his throat and lowered his voice, “Madam Inspector-General, I just got a tip. Apparently, near the Taoyuan Bridge in the west, a terrifying haunting that eats human flesh has appeared, hunting passing psychics and hauntings. I think it’s from Taoyuan. Since they’re already taking action, maybe we should just leave it alone?”
“……”
He already said it was just a rumor-how reliable could it be?
Suppressing her complaints, Xing Yuan sighed lightly. “Forget it, send me the profiles of those three first, I’ll decide after I look.”
Soon, Xing Yuan received the files from Silver Horn. After reading them, she frowned.
[Luo Hua Dong Nu, Qiao Lian, psychic energy fluctuation level A-], [Crimson Upright Saw, Gaspar, psychic energy fluctuation level A], [Person in the Shadow, name unknown, psychic energy fluctuation level A]…
–
“Taihe Gentleman Sword: Heavenly Symphony!”
With a crisp shout, the Pure Lotus Sword in Lu Yibei’s hand swept out a dazzling arc of sword light.
Under the shroud of sword light, a head soared into the air, flying skyward with a spray of blood.
After more than an hour of fierce battle, the fifty-second enemy fell.
Starting from the thirty-ninth enemy, one adept at detecting psychic energy fluctuations appeared, forcing Lu Yibei into the enemy’s line of sight. From then on, she abandoned stealth, switching from using the Paper Cicada Immortal to relying on swordsmanship and movement techniques to deal with subsequent enemies.
All her Paper Cicada Immortals had been sent out; the cargo hold of the truck was now empty.
So far, the psychics and hauntings appearing on Taoyuan Bridge had a maximum psychic energy fluctuation of only 0.5 New Rabbit, with no particularly strange or special tricks-mostly just cannon fodder.
In Lu Yibei’s view, anyone able to break through The Midnight Watchers Society’s encirclement and dare to infiltrate Taoyuan to plunder Gou Meng’s power could not possibly be this weak. At the very least, they’d be on the level of Ms. Rabbit.
She was waiting-for the real enemy to arrive, to kill one as a warning to all.
“Thud-!”
The headless corpse hit the ground with a dull thump.
At the instant the sturdy man covered in scales fell, a figure suddenly shot over from dozens of meters away, slashing a blade at Lu Yibei’s face.
Anticipating this ambush, Lu Yibei’s expression darkened. She raised her sword one-handed, swiftly lifting it to block the blade’s trajectory.
A harsh screech of metal rang out. Taking advantage of the sparks of psychic energy from the clash, Lu Yibei’s other hand shot up. The Four Beasts Bright Sky Cannon, already charged in her palm, burst forth in an instant. The brilliant white beam, carrying terrifying force, blasted the figure away, crushing it to ashes in midair.
Finally, as the sixtieth enemy fell, the “real” enemy appeared.
“Oooh-!”
A chilling wail, accompanied by a strong psychic energy fluctuation, came from the head of the bridge. With that cry, a murderous aura inexplicably filled the air, and for a moment, it felt as if something was withering and decaying in an unseen place.
Lu Yibei looked in the direction of the sound and saw a ferocious, half-human-tall green-skinned imp, dressed in wedding attire, carrying a sedan chair painted blood red, swaying as it walked. A woman in a crimson wedding dress sat upright on the sedan chair, her skirt revealing hideous, rotting flesh beneath, coiling around the chair like tentacles. Upon closer inspection, even the four green-skinned imps carrying the sedan chair were actually differentiated from that rotting flesh.
“Buzz-buzz buzz-!”
Amidst a series of piercing wails, a noisy chainsaw sound suddenly came from above. Immediately after, a figure dropped down onto the center of the bridge, revealing itself.
It was a sturdy man over two meters tall, bare-chested, wearing only a pair of tattered jeans below, walking barefoot. His exposed body was covered with gaping, blood-red wounds resembling mouths. Within the wounds, bloodstained upright saws slowly rotated, emitting a buzzing sound much like a chainsaw.
Just looking at the twisted form of this creature gave one a faint sense of mental contamination.
As Lu Yibei was sizing up the two enemies ahead, both with psychic energy fluctuation levels around 1 New Rabbit, a premonition flashed through her mind.
[It reveals itself from the shadow, appearing behind you.]
In an instant, a strong psychic energy fluctuation surged behind her, as if quietly rising from the shadow. Lu Yibei’s pupils trembled slightly; she hurriedly dodged to the side. The next moment, a blade formed from shadow slashed down from above, striking where she had just been.
She whipped her head around, but before she could see the face of the haunting that had ambushed her, its form dissipated, merging into the shadow on the ground.
Just like the “Little Black” from Detective Conan… That was the only impression this haunting left on Lu Yibei.
With the appearance of the three hauntings, a cold mist quietly drifted over the bridge, and a faint, unsettling murmuring filled the air.
“Three…” While staying alert for the haunting that could emerge from the shadow at any moment, Lu Yibei looked at the approaching woman in red and the upright-saw burly man ahead, asking in a deep voice, “Are the three of you all you’ve got?”
As Lu Yibei finished speaking, the woman in red’s sobbing abruptly stopped. Her clouded eyes, hidden beneath the red veil, slowly turned to size up Lu Yibei, saying nothing.
The upright-saw burly man took a step forward in the dead silence, grinning viciously. “You’re Gu Qianqian, right? I’ve already heard of your reputation-cunning chestnut hair, murderous intent hidden in the shadows, the Bloody Witch who devours hauntings. Tonight, you’ve really made a name for yourself!”
“……”
Ah, damn… Who the hell came up with all these cringey nicknames for Gu Qianqian!
Did I go a bit overboard? Am I going to end up getting Gu Qianqian killed by accident?
No, no, better them than me. After tonight, debts have owners and grudges have culprits. If you want revenge, go find Gu Qianqian, not Calamity!
Lu Yibei was silent for two seconds, then looked at the upright-saw burly man with a blank face and snapped coldly, “Shut up! Who said you could call me Gu Qianqian!?”
“Heh…” Faced with Lu Yibei’s unfriendly attitude, the upright-saw burly man just laughed indifferently and continued, “I really admire your personality, but isn’t it about time? Your psychic energy fluctuation is about the same as the three of us. One against three-I’m afraid you don’t stand a chance.”
“In fact, we’ve been here for a while, watching you from the shadows. Your psychic energy and those powerful little tricks of yours must be all used up by now, right?”
As he spoke, a figure wrapped in thick black mist slowly emerged from the shadow behind Lu Yibei, lingering just outside her field of vision.
Seeing this, the upright-saw burly man’s saws all began to spin, and he threatened in a deep voice, “I’m in charge now. You have two choices: either step aside obediently, or…”
“Who told you I was outnumbered? And who told you I was out of Paper Cicada Immortals?” Lu Yibei interrupted.
As soon as she finished speaking, the entire Taoyuan Bridge shook violently. Immediately after, the sound of something slicing through the air rang out in rapid succession. Countless white figures soared up from the far side of the bridge, circling above Lu Yibei’s head-exactly five hundred in total.
All along, Lu Yibei believed that any trick, when used, should be kept half-hidden at least. So from the very beginning, when she used the Paper Cicada Immortal to ambush those psychics and hauntings, she controlled half of the Paper Cicada Immortals flying out from the cargo truck’s container, taking the opportunity to hide them on the far side of the bridge. When the container was emptied and all one thousand Paper Cicada Immortals had flown out, the remaining half-five hundred-were left.
Looking at the Paper Cicada Immortals circling around Lu Yibei, the previously confident upright-saw burly man seemed a bit less sure of himself. He said in a deep voice, “So, Gu Qianqian, you’ve already decided to fight me? Then come on, let me see what you’re really made of.”
“Wait!” Seeing the upright-saw burly man looking eager to fight, Lu Yibei raised a hand to interrupt him. “If possible, I’d like to wait a bit longer.”
The upright-saw burly man was stunned by Lu Yibei’s action and instinctively asked, “Wait for what?”
Lu Yibei forced her stiff facial muscles into an awkward smile and said lightly, “Wait for Miss Qiu…”
