I Am Your Natural Enemy
Chapter 1262: Cai Heizi's Malicious Scheme, Triggering the Fall (10k)
The taxi driver reacted swiftly, slammed on the brakes, sharply turned the steering wheel, and rushed into the field by the roadside.
Sitting in the car, Er Jingong’s face turned pale as cold sweat instantly soaked his back. He saw clearly just now that the speeding dump truck seemed to deliberately swerve towards them.
If it wasn’t for the taxi driver’s quick reflexes, directly charging into the roadside field, he would have been in yet another traffic accident.
“Dude…bro, can I borrow your phone? I need to make a call.”
The taxi driver, still in shock, called for rescue, knowing that their power alone couldn’t lift the car from the field to the highway.
Er Jingong got the phone and hurriedly made two calls, but neither went through.
On the third call, it finally connected.
“Hey, weren’t you locked up? How are you making a call? What? You’ve been released? Do you know there’s been a major crackdown, today they arrested a bunch of people.”
“What? Where are you? Come pick me up, I’m at…” Er Jingong quickly asked someone to pick him up, but before he finished speaking, the person on the other end erupted.
“What? I’m outside, just arrived… damn… it’s you, bastard! You backstabbing traitor, watch out or you’ll die horribly!”
The call was abruptly ended, and Er Jingong’s face grew pale.
His worries were even more severe than he anticipated.
So many people got arrested today, and he was suddenly informed that he could be released, his case had many loopholes. He admitted that a mere confession couldn’t patch them up, coupled with the time he already served, these were meant to be accounted for.
He had just been interviewed today and was immediately released, while his brothers are either fleeing or getting caught.
If he were one of those caught, what would he think?
He too would believe that he was the one who betrayed them, and perhaps even achieved a great merit to be released so quickly, maybe even make the prosecutor’s office appeal…
His hands holding the phone started to tremble.
He called three more numbers, all were turned off.
The fourth call connected, but upon hearing his voice, the other person immediately hung up.
He instantly felt like all the bones in his body had become limp.
He went in this time with a task, and the final few calls not connecting proved that this was not an ordinary case.
To hang up immediately hearing his voice, without even asking where he was.
This indicated that they wanted no connection with him whatsoever.
Er Jingong knew perfectly well what this meant.
He nervously got up, not waiting for the rescue, and left on his own.
Walking along the road, seeing a large truck roaring past, he would break out in a cold sweat.
He hadn’t walked far when he even dared not continue on the main road.
He wandered into the village, borrowed a charger at the roadside shop, waited for his phone to automatically power on, and as soon as it connected to the signal, the phone rang immediately.
“Hello, Second Brother, you got out, didn’t you?”
“Yes.”
The other person hesitated for a moment and spoke.
“Second Brother, I want to ask you something, speak honestly.”
“It really has nothing to do with me! I don’t even know why I was released today!” Er Jingong was a bit anxious.
“Sigh… take care of yourself, I won’t tell anyone I called you, and don’t tell me where you are either.”
The call was hung up, and Er Jingong became increasingly agitated, why didn’t they believe, how was it related to him.
Even if he wanted to do a good deed, but how could he know so much that so many people would be arrested?!
Just after the call ended, not even a few seconds later, the phone rang again, this time without caller ID, showing an unknown number.
“Hello, Second Brother, I want to ask you something, answer honestly, I’ll guarantee your survival.”
“Sixth Master, it really has nothing to do with me!”
“Hmm, we’ll talk about that later. I want to know, today when Wen Yan met you, what did you tell him?”
“Who?”
The person on the other end paused, still speaking calmly.
“The young man you met today, what did he say to you, and what did you tell him?”
“Nothing much really, he just asked me about some case details, and I just glossed over it.”
“Second Brother, you know I’ve always trusted you the most with important tasks. Are you really telling me that someone overturned your already adjudicated case, allowing you to be released within one day? This incident, you’re completely in the dark, purely for the sake of fairness and justice? Did they use such great power for your trivial case and short sentence, and you know nothing? I believe you, but others might not. A lot of people have been arrested now, and the news of your release has spread. Be careful, many suspect that you betrayed them. Where are you now? I’ll immediately send someone to pick you up. Your wife and son have been picked up and protected, don’t worry.”
“…”
Er Jingong held the phone, his lips trembling.
Then, he hung up the call.
After all these years he’s been in the game, how could he not know what this means.
He turned off the phone, bought a pack of cigarettes at the shop, and sat dazedly at the doorstep, chain-smoking several at once, feeling dizzy, and not until the last cigarette burnt his fingers did he come to his senses.
He was set up, but he had no solution, no explanation, no one would believe him.
