I am the Only Son of Nyx
Chapter 278: Payback to the Psychopath
Dorian ignored Kai’s comment and stared at the spectacle before him.
A sight that he had been dreaming of for months.
Bound in chains at the center of the dim chamber was none other than High Angel Hensen.
He was already topless, on his knees, and chains wrapped around his wrists.
Other than dealing with the grey-masked Angels who apprehended him and didn’t even stop to call someone to bring Talitha—and Abigail to the infirmary, Kai also made an arrangement with a group of seniors he encountered along the way.
A senior named Attar was leading the group, and he was eager to befriend Kai.
Naturally, Kai gave him a chance.
Kai asked Attar to kidnap High Angel Hensen from his room—and then brought him to the very chamber he used to whip Kai. Surprisingly enough, Attar agreed and immediately went to work with four more seniors.
Under the umbrella of a Red Prince, they weren’t scared of being caught.
Especially when two grey-masked Angels were accompanying them to do it.
Frankly, Kai wasn’t expecting much from them, but turns out they did not disappoint.
High Angel Hensen was easily captured, and his life was no longer at his own discretion.
"How did you do it?" Kai turned to Attar and asked.
"Rara over there has a Legacy Imprint that could scan an area using a subtle wind, and when she used it on his room—she sensed that he had only finished showering," Attar explained as he crossed his arms. "We caught him with his pants down, and easily subdued him."
"Okay, as we agreed, I’ll give twenty legal mana ores to everyone involved."
"Yes, thank you, Red Prince Kai. Pleasure doing business with you."
Kai and Attar shook hands.
But as Kai was about to approach High Angel Hensen, his eyes were fixed on a pair of seniors standing in the darkness. A frown crept to his face behind the mask. "Didn’t I say there could only be five of you in total? Who are they?"
Twenty legal mana ores per person, and he capped the people involved at five.
He would need exactly one hundred legal mana ores to give away to the seniors—which was exactly one week’s worth of legal mana ores as a Red Prince. That is already plenty, so he will not give away more than that.
Especially when there are two additional seniors.
"Ah, it’s nothing like that." Attar turned towards the pair—and gestured for them to introduce themselves. "You explain it to him."
Both seniors stepped forward.
One is a man with pointy ears, and the other is a woman with wavy pale blonde hair.
"Sorry for the intrusion," the man said as he placed a hand against his chest, while the woman bowed her head politely. "My name is Chrios, and this beside me is Varalena. We don’t desire to obtain the legal mana ores."
"All we want is to witness High Angel Hensen’s final moments." The woman added. "He was the one who killed my mother in cold blood."
"Huh..." Kai exhaled through his mouth.
He was slightly taken aback by what they said, but then again, this was High Angel Hensen.
A psychopath who gets turned on when torturing someone.
For such an individual, there are most likely others who fell victim to his brutal tendencies. Not to mention, he was also Ragnar’s attack dog—the one who does all the dirty things. It shouldn’t be a surprise that there are others who hated him deeply.
"We won’t interfere," Chrios continued. "But let us watch."
"We will be really thankful," Varalena added.
"You can watch. I don’t care. Just that if you want to touch High Angel Hensen, then you have to ask for his permission." Kai shoved his thumb over his shoulder, pointing at Dorian. "He’s the one I’m doing this for."
Both seniors nodded in understanding.
Only then did Kai approach High Angel Hensen.
He lifted his head when he saw Kai closing in.
"Are you going to say some stupid shit about regretting what I did?" He asked with a grin.
"And why would I ask that? Nothing good can come out of scums like you. I’m here to advise you that you should start begging right now." Kai squatted down—until his eyes were at the same level as Hensen’s. "Unlike you, Dorian still has a heart. He might give you a swift one."
He looked over his shoulder and felt a chill run down his spine.
Dorian was still standing in his spot, burning eyes glaring straight at Hensen.
"Scratch that... I think you won’t be able to get out of this east." Kai snickered and then stood up again.
He turned to leave, but stopped when Hensen’s voice rang again.
"I knew you were a killer, Kai. From the moment I laid my eyes on you, I knew you were like me. And seeing you like this... I think I’ve made you better. All that pain and suffering made you better!"
A humorous laugh rang throughout the chamber.
It rapidly turned maniacal, blaring the laugh of a Daemon who wasn’t scared of death.
"Making me a better killer... You’re not qualified to do that."
"Hm? Fuck you mean by that?"
Kai’s eyes turned colder as he turned around again.
"For you to make me better, you have to be a better killer. But from the way I see it, you’re not even close. In my eyes, you’re nothing more than a cheap killer."
"What did you say to me?! Do you know how many people I have killed?! Many!! Much more than you ever would!"
"Do you think a killer only excels at killing? No, Hensen. Guaranteeing the kill is equally as important as the act of killing. And you... knowing that I’m also like you—decided to trot on the path of a fool. You set your eyes on me, and yet you failed to kill me.
"I, on the other hand, made sure that you die when I strike. Doesn’t that mean I’m better?"
"What do you know, huh?! What the fuck do you know?! Hey, come ba—!"
Despite Hensen’s raving, Kai ignored him completely.
He stepped away, stopping right beside Dorian, shoulder-to-shoulder, and then placed a hand on his shoulder. "He’s all yours." A few light taps on Dorian’s shoulders, then he walked on, heading out. "Have your fun, but make sure he dies. I don’t want to see him again. Ever."
Once he said that, he left the chamber—Hensen’s scream faded as he went further away.
As soon as he was outside and closed the steel door behind him, he could finally breathe again.
"Is it me, or is the night kinder to me tonight?" Kai thought aloud.
From the moment he stepped out after visiting Talitha and Abigail, he could feel the night was somewhat clinging to him even more. Like he was being caressed from every side, which was an entirely new feeling.
Even his presence was covered more by the night.
It was the reason why he could sneak behind Bruce and John without Nigh-phantom.
"Is it because of what I say?" Kai thought about him unconsciously calling the Goddess mom, and then his face flushed red again. "No... That can’t be right. Maybe the night is celebrating my victory, too. Hm. That must be it."
Outside the garden, near the entrance, the two grey-masked Angels who were supposed to be guarding the entrance of the main building still lingered. Both of them guarded the place like statues, waiting for further instructions.
"Go back to your station," Kai instructed, startling the two.
His presence was very light, and the two didn’t sense him coming.
Both saluted and turned away without question.
But after only a few steps, Kai’s voice rang again.
"Oh, right, do any of you know where my new accommodation is?"
Moments later.
Kai was now being escorted to his supposed new accommodation as a Red Prince. He could simply return to his room in the dormitory, but tonight was supposed to be his day. So, there was no reason for him not to check everything that he got.
If he wanted to rest, then it would be on the fruit of his labour and suffering.
Along the way, the streets were empty.
For once in quite a while, the academy was wrapped in a rare, restful silence.
Due to the pardons that the tournament provided, as this was a celebration day—for Eventide Academy, the students didn’t go mining or hunting. Instead, they went straight to their rooms to rest properly.
It was rare for them to have a good night’s rest, and they were going to make use of it.
Kai walked through the quiet—his crimson mantle trailed behind him.
Soon, the escort ended at a dark-red fence bordering a cluster of residences not far from where the professor’s cluster was. Close enough to mark his elevated status, yet private. At the center stood an archway of enchanted steel.
A dragon coiled around its frame—its metallic scales caught the moonlight beautifully.
"Thank you," Kai gave the grey-masked Angels a nod. "I’ll take it from here."
Both saluted again and walked away.
Kai shifted his gaze to the small post right outside the gate and approached.
He looked through the window and saw a woman asleep inside on a chair. She was not a student, wasn’t a grey-masked Angel—but an ordinary person assigned to guard a place that needed no guarding.
No one would dare trespass upon the Red Princes’ homes.
Her breathing was slow and peaceful, untouched and peaceful.
Frankly, she must have it easiest among everyone.
Most family members of Angels worked in a rough environment within the Hive, and some were sent to be bullied by the students and be servants. This woman, on the other hand, only needed to sit around for the entire day.
Kai knocked on the glass, and the woman’s eyelids fluttered open.
Seeing the red dragon mask, she immediately rose up in a panic, hitting her head on the board that held tools right above her head, causing them to fall. She clutched her head with both of her hands like a kid, though she looked to be in her thirties.
"I’m the new Red Prince," Kai said with a chuckle. "Can you show me which one is mine?"
"Y-Yes!" the woman nodded and quickly got out of the post.
She brought Kai inside while fumbling over keys.
Behind, Kai looked around the small cluster and saw only three houses—and they were now heading to the one at the center, facing the gate. It was quite a surprise that the other two Red Princes didn’t pick the center one.
Just as Kai approached the house, a frown crept to his face as he saw something.
The side door was slightly open.
