I Am Not A Goblin Slayer
Chapter 1024 - 492: Combined Power of Heaven and Earth
Although he had previously killed an Extraordinary Centaur, despite both being Extraordinary Demons, an Extraordinary Centaur and one of the Four Great Generals were clearly not enemies on the same level.
He knew very well that Gauss’s advantage lay in short bursts of power. It was exactly through that wave of Spells exceeding the limits of his own strength that he had blasted the Extraordinary Centaur to death. However, the combat endurance of each of the Four Great Generals was terrifyingly strong. Conventional attack methods would find it hard to kill them in a short time. After all, there was no precedent for how Gauss would perform in a prolonged battle of this intensity.
But looking at it now, Gauss was undoubtedly performing exceptionally well.
At the very least, he didn’t have to worry about Gauss being defeated in a very short time. This also made a positive impact on the direction of the entire battlefield. If Gauss were defeated quickly, a massive gap would inevitably appear in his area. The goblin legion, led by the Lord, would tear a huge hole in the human defense line, using it as a starting point to create even greater disasters.
"WOO WOO WOO!"
The horns of the charge blew incessantly. The Shamans in the goblin legion waved their Magic Staffs, releasing a mind-bewitching Spell.
Under its effect, the goblin Warriors, who were already exceptionally violent because of the war, became even more frenzied.
These regular troops of goblins were different from wild goblins. They were elites who fed on meat year-round and had undergone extensive training, allowing their bodies to grow fully. Each one was over 1.6 meters tall, and occasionally, one could see a few individuals with abnormal physical development exceeding two meters, looking not much different from humans.
As for those Big Goblins, their builds were even more massive, making them look as if they possessed the bloodline of a Giant species. Just looking at these elite regular troops, it was hard to associate goblins with those wild, dog-like figures.
This was indeed the case. With an equivalent body size, the strength, agility, and speed of goblins were far superior to those of ordinary humans. Of course, such a comparison was actually unfair. These elite goblins were raised by a much larger number of servants. What they truly needed to be compared against were the elite Warriors among humans.
"BOOM!"
Spells from the city walls smashed into the battlefield. A few goblins that were hit fell to the ground injured, but the other goblin Warriors not far away from them didn’t stop. Instead, they quickened their pace and charged toward the walls.
"ROAAR!!!"
A Big Goblin, standing over three meters tall, hurled a small, ape-like agile goblin up onto the city wall.
The small goblin looked scrawny but was actually lean and powerful. Even though it was thrown high into the air, it still relied on its strong core strength to quickly adjust its posture mid-air. Only when its body reached the highest point did it throw out a grappling hook, firmly anchoring it to the surface of the wall’s tower.
"SWISH!"
Swinging through the air with the help of the rope, the small goblin crossed a distance of dozens of meters before landing lightly on the city wall. Holding a dagger, it agilely and quickly launched surprise attacks on the surroundings, causing a wave of chaos.
Other goblin Warriors used the cover of night to reach the base of the wall. Their fingers dug tightly into the inches of bumps and crevices on the wall’s surface, and they rapidly climbed barehanded up the perfectly vertical ninety-degree plane like spiders. Those with outstanding leg strength took a running start before leaping directly onto the towering city wall.
However, after scaling the wall, these few individuals were instantly besieged by the defenders waiting in full readiness, and the vast majority were defeated in a very short time. But looking at the endless army of monsters on the distant plains, no one relaxed, for this was merely the beginning. This was destined to be a bloody night.
Time slipped away.
The night grew deeper, the sky like an impenetrable smudge of thick ink.
The base of the wall and the area dozens of meters in front of it were littered with corpses, with severed arms and legs visible everywhere. Both humans and monsters were completely red-eyed with bloodlust. At this point in the battle, only instinct could drive them forward—to plunge their weapons into the flesh of the enemy, by any means necessary.
If their weapons broke, they casually grabbed any sharp object they could find at their feet, or perhaps rocks and wooden sticks. If there was nothing, they fought barehanded, using elbows, fangs, and teeth to kill the enemy. When a Mage’s Magic Power was depleted, they switched to repeating crossbows to aim and shoot from above. When arrows ran out, they threw heavy objects from high up, using the most primitive throwing methods to wound and kill the enemy.
Up in the sky, Gauss had no idea how long he had been fighting. This was absolutely the longest battle he had ever fought against a single enemy since becoming an Adventurer.
"HUFF—"
He exhaled a puff of scorching white mist, his chest heaving slightly. The prolonged battle had squeezed out multiple rounds of his Magic Power. His body was like a sponge, constantly absorbing water and quickly being wrung dry. If not for the massive number of goblins below, combined with his top-tier magic element body’s affinity for Natural Magic, his Magic Power would have dried up long ago.
The Goblin Lord might not have noticed his slaughter of the other goblins at first, but as the battle dragged on, it was impossible for it to remain oblivious. Yet it took no action. It neither shifted the battlefield away from its legion’s main forces, nor did it adopt a more aggressive strategy to prevent Gauss from simultaneously dodging and slaughtering the low-level goblins.
Perhaps, even though it didn’t understand what Gauss was doing, it was clearly happy to see it happen. Trading the lives of its subordinates for Gauss’s precious Magic Power—it felt this deal was simply too much of a bargain.
