Chapter 139: Chapter 130: Rallying Call for Conquest

The Hair Ghost even seemed worried that Xia Yuxiu and Lu Qing wouldn’t know what a Perfect Level Potion was.

After all, it didn’t understand either and had never even heard of them.

The Manager had only just told it that a Perfect Level Potion was enough to be life-saving.

But as expected of Captain Level figures, Xia Yuxiu and Lu Qing were experienced and knowledgeable. They knew exactly what a Perfect Level Potion was.

"A Perfect Level Potion?"

Xia Yuxiu was first astonished, but he then recognized the potion in the Hair Ghost’s hand. "It really is a Perfect Level Potion. There isn’t the slightest trace of a chilly aura left on it."

The value of such a potion could no longer be measured in Dream Crystals.

However, the Hair Ghost had also received clear instructions from the Manager.

Saving the man was the priority. As for the cost... they were from the Countermeasures Bureau. They certainly wouldn’t default on their payment.

Xia Yuxiu took the Life Potion and administered it to the grievously wounded, nearly-dead Deputy Captain, Ran Mo.

The two Life Potions Lu Qing had produced earlier had had a very limited effect on the injured man.

But now, with just a single potion of the very same type...

The moment Xia Yuxiu poured the potion down his deputy’s throat, the Deputy Captain’s breathing stabilized. His numerous wounds, including the most fatal one—a ruptured kidney—began to heal at a speed visible to the naked eye.

He was still far from a full recovery, but Ran Mo was no longer in critical condition.

Once they returned to the Present Realm, the Countermeasures Bureau Headquarters had powerful treatment methods, such as Treatment Pods. An injured person could lie inside for a few hours and be restored to peak condition.

These Treatment Pods were expensive, few in number, and a single use consumed vast amounts of medicinal resources.

An average Dream Descender wasn’t qualified to use one.

But figures at the Deputy Captain and Captain Level could use the Treatment Pods whenever they were injured, with no limit on the number of uses. This was one of the Countermeasures Bureau’s main draws for Dream Descenders.

But no matter how powerful the Treatment Pods were, they were still technological creations of the Present Realm.

Forgetting for a moment that they couldn’t be brought into the Nightmare World, even if they could, a Treatment Pod would still require at least a few hours to heal a grievously wounded person.

And a Life Potion?

Drink one potion, and wounds would begin to heal within minutes.

A typical patient with severe injuries could drink three Life Potions in a row and recover eighty to ninety percent.

Xia Yuxiu also bought an Ordinary Level Life Potion for himself.

He downed it in one go. His wounds stopped bleeding, and he could faintly see new tissue beginning to form. Some of his smaller cuts even scabbed over instantly.

His injuries were healed.

"Compared to a Treatment Pod, this Life Potion is a true life-saving Divine Medicine. I never thought they’d actually be selling Life Potions here in the Safe Zone," he marveled.

He hadn’t yet had time to properly observe or experience the Safe Zone, but he could already feel the impact it was having on Dream Descenders.

After all, the Countermeasures Bureau itself didn’t have many Life Potions. The only reason they could readily produce two or three was because they were high-ranking Captains.

Within the Bureau, even mid-to-high-level personnel like team leaders or the heads of logistics, inspection, and recruitment didn’t have a fixed allotment of Life Potions; they were merely eligible to trade for them.

Lu Qing said, "I’m not surprised the Safe Zone has Life Potions. They were already selling Curse Power Potions before. A Curse Power Potion isn’t as expensive as a Life Potion, but the difficulty in creating them is about the same."

"I just never imagined they would have Perfect Level Life Potions here. Could the Manager be an Alchemy Master?"

These types of potions are difficult to mass-produce, primarily because they require an infusion of Curse Power during the crafting process.

In other words, only powerhouses at the Refining Stage or higher are qualified to create potions.

The Countermeasures Bureau had tried everything, even creating all sorts of support equipment for this purpose. But when it came to crafting potions, the best they could achieve was semi-automation. Once the "human" element was removed from the process, the potions produced by machines were all duds.

The higher the quality of the potion, the more it depended on the Alchemist’s personal skill.

The Countermeasures Bureau couldn’t create Perfect Level Potions; they could only occasionally produce two or three bottles of Fine Level potions. And most of those were Curse Power Potions or Physical Potions.

"In all of Baijiang City, only one person—Lord Grey Robe, the second seat of the Wizard’s House—has ever created a Perfect Level Life Potion. But I’d guess that even Lord Grey Robe has made only a handful of them."

"This time, we owe the Manager a huge favor."

It wasn’t just because the Perfect Level Potion was incredibly precious, but because the life of a Deputy Captain was on the line.

...

Afterward, having understood the situation, Shi An got Captain Xia of the Countermeasures Bureau a hotel suite.

Inside the room,

Deputy Captain Ran Mo was still unconscious.

In the living room, five people were gathered: Shi An, Xia Yuxiu, Lu Qing, Old Yao from the liaison office, and Yang Lina from the front desk.

Old Yao was there to get a briefing on the situation and report back to the Present Realm. Xia Yuxiu’s expenditure on the Life Potion also had to be reported by Old Yao for reimbursement.

Lina was there as Manager Shi’s representative to negotiate the specifics of the payment.

She could negotiate the price freely, whereas it would have been inappropriate for Shi An to do so himself.

Shi An’s reason for being there was much the same as Lu Qing’s: why had a Captain and a Deputy Captain suddenly been so grievously wounded?

Lu Qing asked, "Did you encounter an Extraordinary Tier anomaly?"

Xia Yuxiu shook his head.

"No, we were just hunting down cultists from the Nightmare Sect."

"Cultists? They were able to wound you this badly?"

Lu Qing’s eyes widened.

Shi An mulled it over as well.

’I’ve heard about these cultists from Old Song and Li Hao, but they sounded like nothing more than a bunch of second-rate, antisocial misfits.’
