Chapter 1184 -89: The Hero Appears, Hunting Demigods! (Part 2)
Mind flayers.
These creatures are even more terrifying than the Zor elves, and even the followers of the Gloomy Maiden look fearful. Dozens of mind flayers appeared in front of the dark tunnel, raising their hands for a large-scale psychic blast.
All the fleeing slaves immediately fell into chaos.
Some were directly controlled by the mind flayers and turned to attack the others.
“Oh no!”
“The retreat is blocked!” Elryia-Moonshadow’s face changed slightly.
Behind more than ten mind flayers was a tall monster with deep purple skin, taller than the others. Its six strong tentacles and evil, cold gaze that fired a terrifying psionic wave as it raised its hand.
—Mind Cut!
Among the fleeing slaves, a low-ranking Zor mage who had joined them was instantly cut down, a piece of his brain devoured by the Soul Devourer, who tasted it elegantly, showing a very satisfied expression.
The brain of a spellcaster.
Ninety-nine percent, a rare commodity, premium quality.
—Soul Devourer (Four-Star Gold).
The entire fleeing group was almost devoid of any possibility of survival due to being blocked by these mind flayers, as it was impossible to defeat so many mind flayers in a short time.
When the elite warriors of the Zor matron catch up, even a sword dancer would hardly escape alive.
“It seems the rumors are true.”
“The Zor priests really lost their divine technique; otherwise, these people couldn’t have escaped from the Spider Nest City.” The Soul Devourer’s cold pupils sparkled with evil light.
This matter must immediately be reported to the Overmind.
If all Zor priests lost their casting ability, then mind flayers could become the dominators of the Dark Realm.
“Charge out!”
Elryia-Moonshadow gritted her teeth, a faint silver firelight glimmering on her sword blade, a gift from the goddess, an extension of the moon domain, but still not true silver fire.
Overconfidence!
The Soul Devourer elegantly suspended in mid-air had no fear in its eyes, only a faint disdain. Faithful to Elistraee, skilled in sword dance, a strengthened version of a minstrel, it posed no threat to an adept in psionic energy such as it.
—Defensive Precognition!
—Thought Reading!
—Body Adjustment!
Strands of psionic light appeared, predicting Elryia-Moonshadow’s every move; with the burst of telekinetic power, she was held tightly by the present Soul Devourer’s mind power, and a psychic blast shattered her companions before slamming her heavily against the wall.
Mental Warlock.
Elryia-Moonshadow clumsily landed, immediately rolled, and the next second a psychic spike followed close behind.
Pshh.
A mouthful of blood spat out.
Her brain seemed to explode, even her thoughts in disarray.
A formidable enemy that she had never faced before, the Soul Devourer before her wielded terrifying psionic power, even able to predict her actions to a certain extent.
“Bad news! They’ve caught up!” The sound of fighting came from the rear of the group.
As Elryia turned around, a hint of despair shone in her gaze, at least dozens of elite Zor warriors had caught up, moving uniformly, these Zor warriors, subjected to harsh training from childhood, were knock-off versions of Drizzt, just without loaded dice, yet better than ordinary professionals.
The societal structure of the Zor elves dictated that men must become strong warriors and mages to have a slight chance.
“My Lord!”
“Help us!… Save us!…” Despair drove Elryia to pray, pleading for the divine grace of the Gloomy Maiden.
But there was no response.
Since the silence of the Spider Queen Rose, both Velen and Elistraee were doing their utmost to investigate the Spider Queen’s situation.
No response from the divine spirit.
Then a man’s deep voice suddenly sounded, seeming very composed.
“Looks like we arrived just on time.”
Elryia looked up in astonishment, and saw the blown head of the Soul Devourer, and a handsome man with a stern profile, a human, suddenly appearing in the darkness, strolling as if through a garden, without even using a weapon, but calmly twisting off this Soul Devourer’s head with bare hands.
“Slay the Soul Devourer!”
“Acquire psionic specialty—Psychic Dual Strike.”
“Activate the Mental Warlock profession panel.”
“Can be replaced.”
Behind Duncan lay a pile of mind flayer corpses, psionics being another type of casting ability besides arcane, which wasn’t very useful in this realm, but had its uses elsewhere.
Especially in a ‘I reckon’ moment, psionics proved very important.
Mind flayers were naturally one of Duncan’s predetermined targets.
As there were few monsters with psionic energy, killing mind flayers was most convenient; killing enough could still increase one’s psionic power.
“Follow us!” The figure of a master harpist appeared.
Now the fleeing group had only dozens of survivors left, the initial number of hundreds had suffered about two-thirds casualties, the followers of the Gloomy Maiden rescued some, but many more had died.
Duncan passed by the sword dancer ahead.
He looked at the myriad marked Zor warriors and spider-transformed elves in the distant dark tunnel, slowly drawing the Star of Daylight, a sword perfect for showing off.
—Solar Flare!
After the fleeing group made their retreat, suddenly rising light blinded everyone.
In the next instant.
Duncan’s figure darted out like a fleeting shadow, amid the spray of blood, scattered limbs, and the ground covered in corpses of elite Zor warriors, these elites nurtured for over a century by the Zor matron were completely slaughtered by Duncan.
