Chapter 247: A test and a lie
Chapter 247: A test and a lie
I probably wasn’t going to sleep much so what was the point? I ended up going to a study. I passed by my bedroom and Jasmine’s as I decided to go to a nearby study. There were several bodyguards stationed at different points of the hallway. I had also increased the number as a precaution as well.
Upon entering the study where all four walls were lined with bookshelves containing countless books. I sat down at the chair and let out an exhausted sigh.
When will this be over? I thought to myself as I sat on the chair by the fireplace and poured myself a glass of whiskey.
My estate had been infiltrated, my childhood lover had been lying to me, my son had been taken and then there was Jasmine…
Everything was falling apart and the future that awaited me was uncertain. My mind was a scramble when I thought of how how things were going to end. If only I hadn’t…my thoughts went to my birthday party 2 years ago when Diana had returned with Marco. How was I going to even to come out of this.
None of this would have happened and Jasmine would have never left…
A knock at the door brought me out of my thoughts.
I called out of them to enter and found it was the bodyguard I had ordered to collect data on the Carrington boy from the day prior.
“Sir, these are documents on the third Carrington heir you requested,” he informed me and presented me with the folder in his hands. He remembered to come to me when I was alone.
“Good,” I replied as I took the folder from him. he then swiftly left the room.
Immediately, I opened the file and began to go through it.
The Carrington boy was apparently working at the Carrington HQ now. He was the acting CEO of the Carrington group.
My eyebrow sprang up at this. What happened at the Garden House restaurant? And what about his older brother, who was set to be the CEO? Why was he removed from the post? Had he done something wrong?
Unfortunately, no reason was given as to why this was the case, nor had the Carrington family made any statements. Has Robert Carrington Snr. changed his mind about his heir to the company?
My eyes continued to scan the document and I read through more details of the at the post. Then it showed his new assistant. A young woman closer in age to him. Leigh-Anne Sommers. So, that was who had replaced Jasmine.
I examined the woman and the details gathered about her. She was closer in age to Louis as well. 24 years old.
She would be better suited for him I unconsciously thought to myself.
What had happened after she made that call the other day? I wondered to myself. I recall the sad expression on her face after taking her out of the office when I found her. But those words I heard to her say as I entered the office. ’I love him.’
My eyes narrowed in confusion. Wouldn’t she say ’I love you’ if she were talking to the Warrington? So why didn’t she, unless it’s not him she was talking to? My eyes zoned in on the woman.
I wished I could ask her, but I would obviously get a snarky response.

The following day as we made our way to the I looked down at her as she sat beside me in the car. Her head leaned against the window and I saw she seemed her usual irritated but determined self.
The following day, I paid close attention to Jasmine. I mean, I always did, but I wanted to see her emotional state. Ever since the phone call she had been acting…a little off…
Perhaps I was overthinking it.
Upon arriving at the Acland HQ we got out of our vehicle.
One of our bodyguards brought her wheelchair forward so she could be pushed along, but she refused to get in. She wanted to walk by herself. With her leg slowly getting better, she was moving around more on her own.
We made our way through the building entrance, making our way to the elevators. As we moved past the mini-stairway to get there, I noticed she missed a step and lost her balance.
It was instinct before I could even think about it, my hand was at her waist, helping her balance.
“I’m fine.” She said and slowly moved forward away from me. Her voice wasn’t sharp, nor did she spitefully spit out the words.
She also didn’t recoil like she usually did at my touch. She just slowly moved away.
My eyes softened as I processed the situation. Am I overthinking it? I wondered to myself.
We continued to make our way to my office. As we worked, I continued to think about Jasmine’s actions and the time she tried to escape.
Is it possible that Jasmine talked to the Carringtons’ new assistant that day? And if so, what had that I love him really been about?
My eyes scanned through my desktop when something strange caught my attention, immediately putting my thoughts of Jasmine to the side.

JASMINE’S POV
I worked away as usual in the seating area of Keith’s office. My mind was on the small adjustments I had been making in my approach to dealing with Keith.
Ever since the day I had run away from Keith, I’ve been slowly testing him. I don’t know what it would lead to, but it was the only lead I had.
I was checking my emails when I noticed an email that didn’t belong to me.
That evening, we continued to work in his office after dinner. It was becoming routine.
“Oh my god,” Keith suddenly said as he read something on his desktop.
“What? ” I asked in shock, turning away from the folder in my hands to look at him.
“What is it?” I asked him.
On Keith’s face was a look of pure horror, which in turn caused an unsettling feeling to come over me.
“I received a ransom note for Anthony,” he said. Immediately, the file I held in my hands dropped.
