Hunter of Mysterious Creature

Chapter 978 - 978: Final Chapter

I originally planned to fully write out the ending, but for various reasons I've decided to launch the new book on January 1st instead. According to Qidian's rules, to get all the benefits a new book offers, the old book has to be marked as completed. So I can only post the remaining unwritten plot in the form of an outline. I hope you can understand.

Most readers who've followed the earlier plot should already have guessed the basic setting of the World of Eerie Objects. The so‑called "Eerie Objects" are born entirely from the "thoughts" of human individuals or groups. You'll notice that whether it's Eerie Objects derived from various myths and legends, those everywhere in daily life, or Eerie Objects formed by humans taking on that form, they all come from a transformation of things already known to humanity. The inspiration for this setting came from a famous quote: "Humans cannot create something they have never seen."

Even those monsters in fantasy and science‑fiction are basically distortions, mutations, and patchworks based on creatures that actually exist. Any kind of monster can be traced back and found reflected in ordinary things.

As for the protagonist's identity, you've probably already guessed that too.

Sun Hang is Type‑A Primordial Eerie Object "Creation."

He's the very first individual among all Eerie Objects to awaken self‑awareness. His ability is not "whatever he wishes instantly comes true," but "Creation"... Yet after awakening his consciousness, he discovers that all Eerie Objects in this world were created by human thought. But in his own memories, humans are just like everything else—things he himself created using his ability. This forms a "which came first, the chicken or the egg" type of paradox.

To get to the bottom of this, he decides to incarnate as a human and investigate the question from a human perspective.

And to ensure his "human" attributes are sufficiently pure, he separates out his positive and negative personalities—these are Anna and Chimera 17—while he himself creates the Type‑A Eerie Object "Three Monkeys" to seal his own memories, preventing himself from reverting to his original form before achieving his goal.

Later, under the erosion of endless time, the positive personality Anna starts to develop some negative emotions—coldness, jealousy, a twisted affection toward the main body, and so on—while the negative personality also generates some positive emotions. This is why, in the ending of Volume Three, Sun Hang is able to successfully negotiate with Chimera 17.

The two severed, incomplete personalities would, as time passed, gradually evolve into complete personalities of their own, and the "annihilated" Chimera 17 would use the fetus in Yang Lian's womb as a vessel for rebirth—as per the setting, these two personalities, just like Sun Hang's main body, are undying and indestructible in this world. No matter what method is used to destroy them, they will be reborn.

Sun Hang's primary goal in becoming human is to explore the origins of Eerie Objects, but in the process he inadvertently discovers a far greater secret—the entire world seems to have been created.

The various "apocalyptic visions" he saw earlier are actually a few other "worlds" created by the same creator.

In the Main Brain's prophecy, Sun Hang will eventually see a wall of infinite width and infinite height, the so‑called "Fourth Wall." If he can break through this wall, he'll discover that the world he inhabits is a created world, and all its loopholes, paradoxes, and "irrational" aspects are in fact the handiwork of the author behind that Fourth Wall.

The author becomes aware of Sun Hang's actions and tries to rewrite the ending, only to find that the direction of the plot has already slipped out of control, leaving no choice but to end the story early in a rushed, botched way.

But at that point Sun Hang finally finds a way to pass through the Fourth Wall. To prevent his world from being destroyed, he decides to directly seek out the author in the real world for a face‑to‑face confrontation.

The original text ends here, which counts as leaving an open‑ended finale.

As for whether Sun Hang actually killed the author and took his place, or was instead counter‑killed by the author, that's left unknown.

As for the new book, its genre is a "Warhammer‑like farming story." You can see it as a dirty‑soil reincarnation of several previous books that were forced to be axed (explicitly naming Ashes of the Old World and Knocking the Death Knell of the Cyber Age). The protagonist's personality is that of a somewhat idealistic angry youth, but given the reasons the Death Knell book got cut, this time I'll try to write him more restrained, and also strengthen the worldbuilding of the plot. After all, everyone reads novels for fun, not to listen to the author deliver long sermons about grand principles.

I can spoil a few settings first: a worldview and level of tech/culture similar to Warhammer, with no Warp and no Emperor (to be determined), but with alien enemies similar to the Tyranid Insect Race, and the protagonist's Golden Finger will be rather unique. Also, this time the power‑scaling system will be designed with more rigor, learning from the failures of the previous books (in those earlier novels, once they got to the later stages, the power systems pretty much collapsed, making it very hard to write satisfying "爽" moments—readers often said my books don't feel爽 enough, which has become a chronic problem).

I've already written 120,000 characters so far (in fact, with all the revisions, it's been three months of work already), so the early updates of the new book will be quite smooth. If you're interested, you can go check it out.
