HP – Jon Arctic as Severus Snape!
Chapter 66 - It's Time to Meet with the Headmaster.
[Chapter Size: 4500 Words.]
Third Person POV
Hogwarts.
...
...
Severus certainly couldn't be blamed for that, right?
He was heading to the dungeons when Peeves finally appeared, starting to scream at the sight of him as if he were some unknown beast.
"A monster! There's a monster in the castle!"
Severus stared at him through his ghostly eyes with a mischievous look and opened his mouth. A white beam shot out, startling the poltergeist as the attack passed through his body and froze the ceiling right behind him.
Severus began firing more beams, chasing Peeves for some time as long as he remained in the corridors, until the poltergeist fled through the walls to find someone who could fight that beast which, according to him, was a danger to the students.
Severus, already caught up in his mischief, decided to continue.
Meanwhile, in Potions class, the lesson had already begun ten minutes ago when someone knocked hard on the door. Seeing that the only student who was still not present was Severus, Slughorn quickly hurried toward it with a smile on his face. He didn't like that Severus was late, but the most important thing was that he didn't miss his class and was there to demonstrate his brilliance.
The problem arose when he opened the door.
Slughorn found himself face-to-face with an enormous giant wolf staring at him, while Severus opened his mouth and let his tongue hang out in front of him.
Slughorn froze for a moment. The other students also seemed to stare in paralysis as Severus entered the classroom in his wolf form, leaving a good number of them frightened. Slughorn, however, remained completely motionless until he simply lost his composure and fell to the floor as if someone had cast "Petrificus Totalus" on him.
Even Severus couldn't help staring at him with a certain amount of regret. It seemed he had gone too far.
Well, he was an Animagus. There was no reason to hide that from Hogwarts, right? Even though all the portraits and even Peeves were now shouting that there was a monster in the school, the professors should already know that he was an Animagus whose form was a two-meter-tall wolf, so that shouldn't be a problem.
He just hadn't expected Professor Slughorn to actually think he was some kind of monster and freeze like that. He hadn't known the man was such a coward.
In any case, Severus approached before the students began to believe that he was about to attack the professor and blew a puff of icy mist over him to wake him up. Right afterward, he began to transform, shrinking in size amid a glow until he returned to his human form, while holding the backpack he had brought with him through telekinesis.
"Hm...? What's happening? Wait, Monster! Monster!" Slughorn shouted as he woke up.
"Sorry about that, Professor," Severus said, offering him his hand with a smile, ignoring the looks from the rest of the class. "Actually, what you saw was my Animagus form. I just didn't think you'd be so frightened. I had to get here in a hurry, and moving around the school as a wolf is faster..."
Severus gave that excuse, even though he could perfectly well have undone his Animagus form before entering the classroom.
But he wasn't the type who liked to hide that sort of thing. After all, it was just another basic characteristic of his. And besides, being a king, it was normal for him. Severus was already quite accustomed to the idea of showing everyone what he was capable of. It would be unusual if he tried to hide his abilities all the time.
The professor stared at him for a moment, but took his hand. "Ah... it was you," he said awkwardly, finally remembering the wolf, before quickly regaining his composure. "Excellent transformation, Mr. Severus! I'll give you twenty points."
The class, which until then had said nothing, was left even more speechless, with some students still frightened by the sight of that enormous wolf appearing at the door.
"Wait a minute, Professor. I didn't do anything special," Severus said.
"No, no, not at all! I insist. That was incredible, and you really managed to frighten your professor," Slughorn said, flattering him even more.
Perhaps Severus was now a true golden goose for Slughorn. How could he let himself be shaken by a simple scare? A prank that he certainly should have taken better advantage of to connect even more with his student.
"All right then, I suppose..." Severus shrugged.
He shared the class with Gryffindor, and his eyes, without him needing to turn his head, went directly to Lily, who kept her gaze on him. Her slightly red eyes were certainly a consequence of that night, but what else could he do?
He hoped that their goal of no longer needing to speak to each other would continue. He would follow his path and she would follow hers. The professor could flatter her, praising her in front of the entire class, while Lily would also excel at what she was good at, but each of them would live their own life.
In any case, he chose the seat farthest away.
Although the Greengrass girl was there, staring at him.
"How may I help you, Lady Greengrass?" Severus asked, knowing that she had taken his usual seat precisely as an open challenge. And Severus certainly wouldn't back down.
"I can never manage to talk to you," she said, maintaining a certain pride, as if she had finally found a solution to her problem.
"And you think taking my seat is going to help with that?" Severus mocked.
"Don't tell me where I should or shouldn't sit." He raised an eyebrow.
"Whatever. Just don't talk to me." Severus ended up taking the seat beside her. He certainly wasn't going to give that girl what she wanted after that attitude.
He sat down, observed the cauldron, and then looked at the board, seeing the potion they were supposed to prepare. It was merely a basic potion for hospital use, something that all students at O.W.L. level should be more than prepared to brew perfectly, without any trouble.
Severus couldn't help but frown. Had the professor chosen that out of laziness rather than preparing something more challenging? After all, he was the castle's Potions Master.
Simply shaking his head, Severus quickly focused on the ingredients about ten meters away, on the professor's table. He expanded his awareness to choose the best of the best, as if he were looking directly at each one of them.
Since he had arrived late, he hadn't been able to pick the best ones as he always did, having always taken advantage of the chaos of the students trying to choose the best seedlings and healthiest ingredients, pushing one another around. And he certainly couldn't hide his telekinesis now either, as he usually did. The students always wondered how he managed to get all the ingredients without even leaving his seat. They never saw him going to the table to fetch them.
So it came as a surprise when the first students began to shout upon seeing several ingredients rise from the table and fly in a line across the classroom.
Severus didn't even bother hiding it. The ingredients passed by the professor, who even moved aside slightly to avoid them, although none of them actually threatened to touch him, before heading directly toward Severus's table and lining up perfectly in front of him.
Those displays of telekinesis always surprised the students, but by this point, they should already have been starting to get used to them.
Severus also made the cauldron levitate, creating flames without even making a single movement as they began to circle its base. Then he sat down and took out a book.
Since Greengrass was quite arrogant, perhaps not about her blood purity to the point of going around shouting about it, but she certainly had a spoiled demeanor, he deliberately chose a Muggle book and left the cover clearly visible beside her as he began reading.
"How are you doing that?" she asked.
"..." Severus didn't answer. He simply continued looking at the book, finding the reading far more enjoyable than listening to that girl.
"How can you do all that with your cauldron? Where did you get that book? I saw it come out of your ring. What is that? I've never heard of anything like it."
Severus ignored all her comments as he watched her huff, growing increasingly irritated, until she had no choice but to start working on her own cauldron. Many eyes remained on Severus until they began paying attention to their own work.
"You're adding too much of that ingredient," Severus suddenly said, making her freeze. "Add only twenty milligrams, not forty, of that herb. If you keep doing it the way you are, the reaction won't be good and you'll fail even at such a basic potion. Which would be a shame for a Greengrass, don't you think?"
The girl remained frozen.
"I'm not adding too many ingredients," she finally said after some time.
She stomped her foot on the floor and quickly removed the excess amount she had been about to add.
Severus merely shook his head and continued reading his book.
"You know you have to add more of that, right? Crush it instead of trying to cut it. You'll get much more juice out of it."
"..." She pressed her lips together, but did exactly that.
"And don't forget to stir thirty times counterclockwise and then a hundred times clockwise."
"You're not doing that."
Severus began deliberately irritating her while she glared daggers at him. Since she wanted to be annoying, he would be annoying to her as well.
But after some time, all Severus did was continue working while reading his book, not paying much attention to the rest. He could divide his mind between his reading, his own cauldron, and the entire environment around him, allowing him to follow every movement that girl made.
"I don't need that," Severus replied without taking his eyes off his reading.
She couldn't help but watch the cauldron floating beside him, while the spatula stirred on its own, making the movements clockwise.
She merely clicked her tongue.
"Don't forget to cast the charm," Severus explained once again, five minutes later.
"I don't see you doing that either," she grumbled, knowing he was right but finding him irritating.
"I don't need to." Severus shrugged.
He didn't need to cast the spell on the cauldron, as he could apply the same effect directly with his own magic.
Spells were a problem when it came to producing potions at high speed, but Severus had already developed a theory that could solve this issue. If he used a specific cauldron, with runes corresponding to each of the spells required for a particular type of potion, he could do something similar to what Muggles were doing with their industries: automate and produce large quantities of materials and products at high speed.
Obviously, he would have to invest a great deal of money in something like that... And Severus was quite interested in the United States precisely because of this. The country's industrial production was already enormous in the 1970s.
If he could replicate that and create exclusive cauldrons for each type of potion, he wouldn't need to personally cast every spell and could automate the process with Muggle machinery. He would only need to activate the runes carved into the cauldrons themselves.
He could simply make the process practically automatic, without needing to personally oversee every stage.
He would be a potion magnate.
He could sell to the entire world.
That meant practically infinite money and also enormous control over the market, perhaps even reaching a possible monopoly, with no one able to compete with his industrialization. By mass-producing and buying ingredients wholesale, his costs would be much lower, allowing him to sell at prices far below those currently charged.
No one in the wizarding world would be able to compete with him. He could expand his stores across the entire world, dominating markets in the United States, South America, all of Europe, Africa, and magical Asia in a way no one else could.
But that was a matter for another time. Severus continued bothering Greengrass while the girl spent practically the entire class huffing in irritation.
Next time, she would certainly think twice before taking his table. Obviously, his provocations didn't go unnoticed by the rest of the classroom.
James Potter was looking at Severus furiously. He had been humiliated, lost his cloak, and been forced to listen to Lily cry while she refused to explain anything to him, even going so far as to look at him as though he were guilty of something James still didn't understand.
After all, he hadn't been able to hear the conversation between the two of them.
All he had heard were Severus's final words, making it clear that he no longer wanted to be Lily's friend.
James had even tried to hug her to comfort her, but the girl simply slapped him on the way to Gryffindor Tower.
James couldn't have been in a worse mood.
His friends noticed it and also shared a look filled with anger toward Severus. He had ruined their fun when he took the cloak, and now they needed to recover it somehow.
Seeing him there making provocative comments to another Slytherin girl, while she began getting irritated with him, only made things worse. He could see Lily sniffling and looking even sadder because of it, and jealousy was taking over him.
Everyone was surprised by Greengrass's approach and Severus's attempts to irritate her, while the professor thought it was great, laughing and even commenting to the other students as he watched the two arguing in the back row. He even went so far as to award points to Severus, when all he was doing was provoking her and helping her at the same time.
James was reaching a level of anger and envy toward Severus that he had never felt before.
Snivellus had simply changed into a different person over the summer, and now he simply had everything. He had attention, he had abilities that made everyone envious, and he could even freely show off his Animagus transformation. If James had known it would be so cool to appear that way, as Severus had done when he knocked on the door, he would have done it a long time ago.
The problem was that his own transformation was already basically a crime in the eyes of the Ministry. Almost a year had passed since he had become an Animagus, while the deadline for reporting himself to the Ministry was six months after successfully performing the transformation.
And now even the girl he liked was staring at him with fury and disgust, as if he were guilty of something he didn't even understand, while Snape had managed to make her cry. And the look in her eyes toward another man could be summed up as jealousy and hurt...
Ah, how James hated Severus at that moment. He had never wished so much harm upon that Slytherin as he did now, to the point that he wished he could have the old Severus back.
If Severus could read Potter's thoughts, something he actually could do, but obviously wouldn't waste his time on... He would have said that James was nothing more than a spoiled brat, angry because the world wasn't the way he wanted it to be. Ridiculous...
In any case, the class had ended.
Lily and the others left, while Severus headed to the Room of Requirement, where he stayed for some time before going to the Great Hall, since they still had half an hour before lunchtime.
He didn't find anyone he knew there and ate a few things before heading directly to the lake, where he found the entire group gathered.
"Hey, where were you?" Xenophilius asked.
"I went to take care of a few things, nothing important. Anyway, I brought some rather interesting things," Severus said, smiling as everyone turned their attention to him.
He pulled a bag out of his old bag. He had expanded its internal space, something he couldn't do with his rings. Because of that, he couldn't carry as many things inside them and sometimes had to use his bag for that.
Suddenly, he began pulling out several pieces of armor, tossing them onto the ground one after another.
"Hey... you didn't steal that from the school, did you?" Roberta asked, shocked.
Severus merely flashed a smile. "Of course."
The pieces of armor began assembling themselves in front of them, starting with the feet and quickly moving up the rest of the body until reaching the head, as Severus tossed out the remaining pieces.
"Hey, what are you planning to do with that?" Amelia Bones couldn't help but ask, shocked.
Severus pulled something else from the bag with a smile, and everyone saw him raise a sword.
A real sword, not a transfigured one.
"I stole this from another suit of armor. I thought I'd have a little fun. It's been a while since I've fought with swords."
And it truly had been. Severus could no longer even manage to fight during the final years of his former life. If he counted it, it had been five decades since the last time he had truly fought with a sword in his hands.
After all, back then, the entire world had already solidified under his invisible rule. They might not have been flying the flag, but Arctic controlled the world after two centuries.
All he had been doing shortly before that and until the end of his life was changing the world's systems, mainly using his mind instead of his feet to move and his hands to attack with a blade.
Besides, he also had magic. Even when old, he could still fight, because his magic was something that never weakened with time. On the contrary, it became increasingly powerful. At two hundred and fifty years old, he could engulf the entire Kingdom of Arctic in an enormous blizzard.
So it wasn't as though he had been defenseless.
But even so, after living for two centuries with a sword in his hand, spending the last fifty years without touching one, and now having this opportunity again with a young body...
What kind of fool would he be if he didn't take advantage of it?
And Professor Flitwick had given him a good dose of excitement that morning.
The students and his friends simply stood there, shocked, as they watched Severus suddenly launch an attack against the armor. It was caught by surprise and quickly defended itself, seeming enraged at having been taken out of the castle only to be attacked like that.
The armor also lunged at Severus.
A sword fight quickly began on the grass beside the Black Lake, drawing the attention not only of his group but also of every student nearby, all of them staring in astonishment.
The problem wasn't the armor, it was Severus.
His swordsmanship was practically flawless. Although his muscle memory was nowhere near what he had possessed in his former body, he still knew every movement and quickly began getting his new body accustomed to it.
He could already demonstrate a type of swordsmanship that would make anyone immediately realize that Severus was extremely experienced.
He quickly began gaining the upper hand against the armor, which continued retreating as Severus attacked it without any mercy, forcing it to take one step back after another.
Until Severus finally struck hard, and the helmet went flying and rolled across the ground.
Severus took a few steps back. "That can't be all, right? Let's keep going," he demanded.
He would never be satisfied with a small demonstration like that. He wanted a real fight.
He spoke like a king ordering one of his subjects: "Get up and fight."
The armor seemed to hear him somehow, because its helmet quickly began to float, returning to its head. Then it stared at him and raised its sword again.
Faced with that challenge, Severus smiled. The entire group remained silent, staring at him as if he were crazy, but Severus didn't care.
Xenophilius was the first to react, beginning to clap. "Bravo! That was incredible! I didn't know you were that good with a sword. You look like one of those knights from the stories! No, a protagonist!!"
"Yeah, how can anyone fight like that?" Pandora asked as she joined him, clapping as well.
Severus didn't answer, because the armor attacked him. And before anyone could react, they both went back to fighting, while the sound of blades echoed across the grounds, with Severus pressing the armor, which once again ended up being defeated.
No student could defeat one of those suits of armor with a blade, so everyone was impressed. Severus wasn't fighting with a wand, casting spells. He was fighting with a sword in hand-to-hand combat, and those suits of armor simulated real knights. The students were always impressed when they fought one another, something they frequently did in the corridors, and they even had to wait for them to stop fighting before they could finally continue to class.
But now it was a student fighting against one of them. And he was laughing and having fun with it, knocking it down for the fifth time and demanding that it get back up again.
"What a pain. This is way too easy... I'll have to summon at least three of them next time for this to become a decent workout," Severus said.
Even so, he still had his routine of drinking his body-strengthening potion, as well as his morning run, but he wanted to do more physical exercise. Fighting with a sword and training his body would certainly be a good way to achieve that.
He continued doing that until he finally shattered the armor and placed it back inside his bag to take it back to the castle.
It was then that everyone was leaving for their next classes, with Ancient Runes and Arithmancy at 2 p.m. Severus chose to go to Arithmancy that time, when Professor McGonagall approached the group, staring at them.
It was certainly revolutionary to see a group made up of students from all the Houses together, but she couldn't help turning her critical gaze toward Severus.
"Mr. Snape, is it true that you took a complete suit of armor from inside the castle without authorization and brought it down to the lake to fight against it?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes. We had a glorious battle for honor and victory," Severus said passionately.
It was obvious that he was exaggerating. He might have been a king, but now he was a teenager. Why not have a little fun?
"I assume you are bringing the armor back to the castle." She frowned and asked irritably.
Severus patted the bag. "Of course. It's right here. I was going to take it back, but, Professor, if you're worried because you didn't get to watch our glorious battle like everyone here did, I hope you'll come tomorrow. I intend to steal it again," Severus said with the utmost pride.
The professor stared at him as if she were looking at a madman. "You must be joking..." she said.
Severus merely kept smiling. Meanwhile, the first-year students, Heloísa and the other two, clapped happily at the idea of watching the spectacle again. They laughed, while Iris let out a cheer, and Amelia merely shook her head. Xenophilius couldn't hide his smile, and the others had their own reactions to the situation.
"I will deduct twenty points for removing Hogwarts property without authorization," McGonagall said in a serious tone.
'And I'll do it again tomorrow,' Severus replied only to himself, in his mind. He stared at her and thought for a moment. 'Well, I just need to earn twenty points a day, then.'
Obviously, he didn't dare say that out loud. That woman would certainly find another way to punish him.
"Furthermore," she continued, "I've heard about a two-meter-tall monster in the form of a white wolf walking around the school. Professor Flitwick told me about your duel and seemed quite fascinated, but I must remind you that you cannot simply use your Animagus form to frighten others, especially not to make the Potions professor faint."
She fixed him with a piercing glare while Severus held back his laughter, but the others couldn't help laughing.
"That is not funny, Mr. Lovegood and the rest of you," she said immediately as she turned toward them.
"You heard her? It's not funny at all..." Severus said, staring at them with a serious expression. But he was still smiling and winked at them before turning his attention back to the professor.
"Anyway, Professor, you wanted to see my transformation, didn't you? I can demonstrate it while we head back to the castle," he said.
The professor hesitated for a moment. Certainly, one side of her didn't want him to do that and cause the same chaos as before, despite there now being several students around him. At the same time, she was also curious and fascinated to see his Animagus form.
Severus saw the professor's expression and interpreted it as a yes.
He quickly transformed. The giant wolf appeared before everyone, larger than the professor and any other student there. Heloísa immediately showered him with affection, while Iris also stared at the animal in fascination, even more so with Scamander blood running through her veins and her own passion for magical creatures.
The professor had to follow them while staring at Severus's form with fascination. That wolf was far more impressive than her own cat transformation, she had to admit.
"Mr. Snape, I must inform you that the Headmaster wants to meet with you after classes. So you must go to his office at seven o'clock," the professor reminded him.
The wolf let out an affirmative sound. Severus would be going alone to his next class, since Amelia and Xenophilius had Ancient Runes at that same time. Since he took both subjects, he had to choose one or the other and then get the material from the class he had missed from one of them.
In any case, there would be no more classes after that one, so he would easily be able to catch up on the material by going to the library with the others later.
The rest of the day passed normally and, before dinner, Severus went to the tower where the Headmaster's office was located.
He would finally find out how he would be punished for the minor offense from last week, when he had told the Headmaster to go fuck himself.
