Chapter 145: Chap.142 - The egocentric Draco and the envious Ron.

"So, why are you angry with me?" Rigel rolled his eyes at Draco. The Slytherin students were all listening, with the silence in the room, even the Gryffindors could hear a little, and that was precisely why they were silent. The children's curiosity made everything more 'dramatic' than it should have been. "It's not like I chose to go to Gryffindor, the Sorting Hat sent me there."

Draco frowned, opening his mouth to reply, but then closing it. He really didn't know how to answer that. So, was it the hat's fault?

For a moment, Draco didn't know if he believed it, but so what if it was the hat's fault? In the end, it was Rigel who ended up in Gryffindor!

"That doesn't make you any less of a traitor!" He shouted.

Rigel rolled his eyes, saying. "Draco, we're cousins, your parents asked us to be together, do you really want to act like a fool and throw that away because we don't wear the same colors and don't sleep in the same room?"

"I'm not a fool!" Draco said, his face turning red with irritation.

Rigel stared at him expressionlessly, he really didn't know how to deal with children. The only thing Draco heard was Rigel calling him a fool?

Letting out an internal groan, Rigel controlled himself.

"So what do you want? Do you want to go to Dumbledore and ask him to put me in Slytherin?" Rigel rolled his eyes at him.

Draco opened his mouth, a little confused, for a moment he didn't know what to say, but luckily he had a stock phrase for it. "My father..."

"Draco, I'm fine in Gryffindor." Rigel rolled his eyes.

Seeing that Draco was about to blush and yell again, Rigel felt he really wasn't suited for it, thoughtfully, he remembered the trick that had worked in Gryffindor.

He approached Draco, whispering something in his ear. Draco seemed annoyed at first, then surprised, and in the end seemed to have a difficult problem, undecided.

Rigel looked at him with a smile. "So, what's it going to be?" He asked, extending his hand for a handshake.

In the end, Draco felt the deal was fair, his face returning to the 'indifferent' expression he had been trying to maintain. "Very well, I accept your apology."

Rigel almost rolled his eyes, but in the end he let it go, getting up and sitting back down next to Neville.

Rigel didn't know how to deal with children, but he knew that interest was what made the world go round.

So he did exactly that, he promised that if Draco would let it go, he would give him a Nimbus 2000.

Draco, of course, could buy that broom himself, or rather, Lucius could.

However, Lucius knew that Draco wouldn't even be able to use the broom in his first year, so he had no reason to buy it. Rigel had promised to buy the broom for him, but he hadn't considered that it would probably be confiscated soon after he received it.

However, until then, it wouldn't be Rigel's problem.

Sure, if Draco knew how to hide the broom, he could keep it, but judging by how ostentatious that brat is, Rigel highly doubted Draco would make it past the first day with the broom.

Sitting next to Neville, the other Gryffindor boys turned to him, clearly curious.

Seamus, Dean, and Harry were just curious, as was Neville, but he didn't want to seem intrusive, so he didn't raise his head.

Ron, on the other hand, seemed furious.

"You went and joined the Slytherins! I knew you weren't up to any good! You're clearly a spy!" He spoke, his voice filled with venom.

This left Seamus and Dean stunned, a little confused about what to think, as was Harry, although he didn't want to judge Rigel for it, he remembered how hateful Malfoy could be.

Neville simply shrank further into his seat.

Rigel wasn't bothered by Ron's stupidity, instead, he rolled his eyes at him and said, "He's my cousin, you idiot. Do you think that just because we're in different houses means our kinship is gone, or do you expect people to disown their relatives simply because they're in different houses? If any of your siblings were in the other three houses, would you ignore them too?"

Ron opened his mouth, momentarily confused. Should he say that houses are more important than family? However, Ron wasn't very bright, so his answer was. "No, not the other houses, just the Slytherins."

This earned an angry look from the Slytherins who were still listening. Ron shrank slightly, but realized he was surrounded by Gryffindors, so he quickly puffed out his chest, as if he had suddenly mustered courage.

"Ron, I think this is a bit much. Rigel is right, they're related, there's no need to take it so seriously." Dean said. Clearly, he already trusted Rigel after their week together, it would have been much harder to side with him if they had just met. That's why Rigel waited to make peace with Draco.

Seamus agreed, and even Harry, who hated his cousin, felt it made sense.

Neville, in an act of rare courage, raised his head and spoke. "I trust Rigel."

Rigel was very pleased inside, this week was truly worthwhile.

Ron grumbled, but eventually dropped the subject for now.

Ron, once he focused on something, would do everything to prove he was right, in this case, the next time the Slytherins gained the upper hand, he would probably point to Rigel and say he was to blame.

Rigel couldn't do much with that boy, he'd already realized what kind of person Ron was, envious and boastful, although he didn't consider himself a bad person. This was even worse because that type of person does things thinking they're 100% right.

For Ron, what a Gryffindor did was justice and what a Slytherin did was evil, even if a Slytherin did something good, it was simply deception, there had to be a sinister motive behind it.

The boy couldn't be entirely blamed, his upbringing was based on the idea that 'Slytherins' are bad, so he took that to the extreme and held it as one of life's truths.

In the end, Rigel realized that befriending Ron wasn't worth the time, the boy might accept you as a good person for a moment, but he would always remain suspicious, and whenever something happened, he would always point the finger at you.

There was no point in coddling the brat's fragile ego for seven years, so he gave up. In that respect, even Draco was much better than Ron, Draco was so preoccupied with his own affairs that he rarely spent more than a few seconds thinking about other people's lives.

Aside from Harry Potter, Draco had a serious fixation on Harry, after all, in his mind, Harry was destined to be his best friend. Not only had Harry rejected that, but he had rejected him to be with a Weasley? Had Draco Malfoy really been spurned in favor of a Weasley?

Given Draco's fragile ego, Harry practically became the focal point of a shift in the narrative, the narrative where Draco always got everything he wanted.

Draco wouldn't let it go because Harry was the first person his own age, someone whose opinion Draco actually valued, to contradict him. Clearly the kind of situation where love turns into hate.

In any case, with the exception of Harry Potter, Draco didn't take the opinions of others his age seriously, even students older than him, unless they came from a good family, were merely background figures in his 'grand story'.

Who would have thought that Draco's egocentrism would make him a better person than others?
