How to Bring Common Sense to Xianxia World
Chapter 338: Negotiation First Half
Wei Chen was now wearing a suit, sitting in the limousine alongside two of his wives and Lian Cheng, all of them dressed formally.
Wei Chen’s gaze drifted toward Mo Xingyao and Dream Butterfly, especially the latter. Both of them were now wearing suits that the people at the mansion had prepared for them.
It took a while for both Mo Xingyao and Dream Butterfly to become familiar with the clothing from this side and learn how to wear it properly on their own.
But the result was very satisfying.
Mo Xingyao, of course, looked good in the suit. She especially had the appearance of a young office lady, with the perfectly fitted shirt beneath the suit adding to the look.
She looked the part of a young heiress and female CEO.
The funny thing about these modern clothes was that Mo Xingyao seemed very interested in them, especially bras, panties, pantyhose, tights, and stockings.
All in all, these were the kinds of goods that women in their world would love to have. They would allow women to move much more freely and comfortably, and were definitely much more practical than dudou.
(Author Note: Dudou (肚兜) is a traditional Chinese undergarment worn by women. It consists of a small diamond-shaped or triangular piece of silk cloth that covers the chest and stomach, held in place by thin straps tied around the neck and back.
It was often embroidered with flowers, birds, or auspicious symbols. It served as a soft, intimate layer beneath a woman’s outer robes, functioning somewhat like a camisole or bralette. Dudou was especially popular during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is the type of garment that we often see in Chinese wuxia dramas, especially during some of the sexy scenes.)
Even now she was touching her suit and checking inside her shirt looking down at her chest area like she was trying to study them.
Wei Chen’s eyes wandered toward Dream Butterfly, especially toward her chest.
Dream Butterfly seemed a little worried about that area, particularly the buttons around her chest. They reminded him of a scene from Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man where Spider-Man desperately tries to hold a speeding train together.
Of course, the suit made things much better, but Wei Chen happened to see her while she was getting dressed and wearing only the shirt. The buttons definitely reminded him of that iconic scene.
"Pervert..." Mo Xingyao threw him an accusatory glance, while he simply shrugged it off.
"What’s wrong with staring at the nice view on my wives, huh?" he said with a smile.
"Hmph!" Mo Xingyao snorted, pretending to be angry as she looked outside the window.
Wei Chen chuckled at his wife’s antics. The group continued chatting and bantering in a lighthearted mood until the limousine finally arrived at a secret location.
It was another mansion near Washington, D.C.
Unlike the previous mansion, this one looked as though it had been built during the Victorian era. The enormous estate stood behind an ornate iron gate, surrounded by towering old trees and carefully maintained gardens.
The mansion itself was built from dark brick and pale stone, with steep roofs, tall chimneys, decorative windows, and an imposing set of wooden double doors.
It looked like the kind of place that belonged to an old aristocratic family or one of America’s old-money families from the 1800s.
Unlike modern mansions, this one had aged beautifully, keeping all of its grandeur intact despite the history it might have witnessed during the many years it had stood there.
Wei Chen got out of the limousine along with his wives and Lian Cheng.
In front of the iron gate, two people were waiting for them: an old man dressed like a butler and a young maid.
The moment Wei Chen walked in front of them, the two bowed politely as the old butler greeted them.
"Welcome, dear guests. Mr. President is waiting for you inside. Please follow us," the butler said as he gestured toward the inside of the mansion.
Wei Chen’s group walked through the iron gate and were greeted by the sight of the mansion grounds. Many gardeners were standing nearby and bowing respectfully toward the group, while some of the maids who passed by also bowed to them.
However, through Wei Chen’s spiritual sense, he noticed that many of these workers seemed to be hiding pistols and submachine guns beneath their clothes. These people also served as security personnel. In case something happened, they would be able to hold off an attacker for a while until a full assault team arrived to reinforce them.
As Wei Chen marveled at the workers and the mansion, the group continued walking inside.
Inside, the mansion was just as impressive as its exterior.
The spacious entrance hall was decorated with polished wooden floors, elegant chandeliers, and antique furniture that looked as though it had been preserved for generations. Paintings and old family portraits hung along the walls, while a grand staircase led toward the upper floors.
In all honesty, Wei Chen did not even know who the people in the paintings were. He only knew that they looked like they were screaming, "I’m rich and aristocratic."
In this situation, he really wanted to get some comments from Ximen Hao and see what the guy thought.
Maybe the guy might feel like his wealth had been insulted and decide to renovate his home, have someone paint a portrait of him, and hang it somewhere grand.
Wei Chen glanced around with curiosity as the butler led them deeper into the mansion and toward the second floor, where the room the President was waiting in was located.
Inside the room, Wei Chen noticed many people sitting there. One of them was the current US President, Jonah Crump. As for the others? He could not recognize them. Maybe they were military officers, members of old-money families, the President’s political supporters, or something else entirely. Who knew?
When the President saw Wei Chen, he smiled, stood up, and walked toward him, extending his hand for a handshake.
"Welcome to the United States, Young Master Wei," the President said with a political smile.
Dream Butterfly frowned.
Why was this mortal suddenly trying to touch her Lord Husband’s hand? Did this mortal have some kind of ill intent?
Dream Butterfly thought to herself.
As the former high courtesan who had served in the reputable Immortal Dream Garden, she was familiar with all the cloak-and-dagger tricks that went on in high society and frequently took place within their establishment.
It was necessary for her to learn how to recognize these kinds of tricks so that she could protect herself and avoid being dragged into some kind of political dispute between sects or a power struggle between different factions back in their world.
And suddenly touching another person’s skin the first time they met was not something she appreciated, since there were many poisons that could work through simple skin contact. Some were even timed poisons that could be activated under bizarre conditions specifically tailored to their target.
But Wei Chen had no idea about any of these thoughts going through his wife’s mind. He was simply familiar with the customs of this side.
Thus, he extended his hand and shook hands with the President.
"Thank you very much, Mr. President. It’s an honor to visit one of the great civilizations from this side," Wei Chen said in English with a smile.
He deliberately emphasized the words "one of the," since they already knew that there was more than one country on this side and that its civilization was not unified under a single government.
The moment the President heard Wei Chen speaking in English, he was surprised. According to the report, the people from the otherworld spoke Chinese as their main language.
But then he remembered that, according to the report, this man seemed to be able to read people’s minds. He had apparently learned English from the mind of the reporter, Sarah Corner.
"Your English is very good, Mr. Wei," the President said as a pleasantry.
"Just so-so, Mr. President."
The two traded pleasantries for a moment before Wei Chen followed the gesture of the president to sit on the table alongside his wives and Lian Cheng.
The President then began introducing the people on his side first. The person sitting nearest to him was Dr. Hampton, one of the members of the expedition team that had gone to the other side.
There were also generals, senators, and some of his advisors. However, there was one person who stood out.
It was an old man who appeared to be around sixty years old. He had an air of aristocracy about him, along with a commanding presence that suggested he was someone who had established himself in a position where he was accustomed to commanding others.
The old man was half bald, with his white hairline receding toward the middle of his skull. However, his eyes and demeanor told Wei Chen that this man was anything but simple. Otherwise, he would not have been able to sit among the advisors and military leaders gathered here.
