How to Bring Common Sense to Xianxia World

Chapter 150: Unlucky Life Devouring Hall - First Half

Chapter 150: Unlucky Life Devouring Hall – First Half

Wei Chen looked at Max. “Do you know where she is?”

The dog shook its head.

“Then can you guide me to where she is?” he changed the question.

Max nodded, then sniffed the air. Slowly, it walked out of the castle-like cabin and pointed its nose outside the flying ark in the direction where the little troublemaker had just gone.

“Awwooo, woof!” Max barked to indicate the direction.

“She went that way?” Wei Chen pointed.

Max nodded. Wei Chen then went back to inform the people from the Thousand Treasure Hall that he would go search for the Life Devouring Hall. In truth, he was going to search for that little troublemaker.

After finishing the instructions, the flying ark promised to anchor around the area, secure the perimeter, and send scouts and patrols around the anchoring point.

Wei Chen then began to search for little Ningning. Max, with his keen nose, sniffed the air and ran at full speed toward her location. Since her scent was fresh, unlike the scent of the assassins from the Life Devouring Hall, it was easy for Max to trace her.

After an hour of chasing, Wei Chen noticed a small silhouette sitting on a rock, bawling her eyes out.

“I’m sorry, Mama! I won’t do it again! Let me go back!” the girl cried out.

Wei Chen did not know what was going on in the little girl’s head, but not wanting to waste the opportunity, he decided to record her while she was crying and shouting apologies.

Just in case this could help lower her mother’s anger.

While doing so, Max could not help but glance at his personal cook from the corner of his eye. If one looked closely, they would see a trace of confusion in its eyes.

This personal cook of his, what a strange creature. Why was this guy hiding and peeping at the little girl? Was this kind of behavior not frowned upon by the standards of the human world?

Max could only wonder.

After Wei Chen had recorded enough, he chose to reveal himself and walked toward the little troublemaker.

“Why are you crying out here instead of going back to the underworld?” he asked. Since the girl seemed to regret her actions and had decided to return, why had she not done so?

“Chenchen!” The little girl cried out in relief. She jumped toward Wei Chen and hugged him like a koala.

“Chenchen! I… I got thrown out of the palace. Mama… Mama doesn’t love me anymore! She… she…” Little Ningning wailed again, but Wei Chen stopped her.

“Whoa, whoa. Calm down, kid. Calm down and tell me slowly. What happened?” Wei Chen soothed her and placed her on Max’s back since it was more comfortable than sitting on the stone.

The little girl then told Wei Chen what she had experienced. She had wandered alone from the flying ark, gotten lost, and could not find any bad guy to kidnap her. She was afraid she would be left alone here. She regretted it and decided to go back home to repent and apologize to her mothers.

Then, to her horror, she could not go back. The portal to the underworld, specifically to her palace, was locked down and she could not initiate the teleportation. This meant she could not return, and she thought she had already been abandoned by her parents, just like the old servant had once told her.

Hearing this, Wei Chen finally understood what this little girl feared and what had really happened.

“Listen, kid. The underworld is under lockdown because of the whole kidnapping situation, right? Since that’s the case, it’s normal for the portal to your palace to be locked as well. They don’t know that you’re here, do they?” Wei Chen explained.

Hearing the explanation, the little girl finally understood.

“Then… then how can I go back?” she asked, her teary eyes pleading.

Wei Chen thought about it, then decided to come clean. “I can contact your fourth mama using an emergency call. She will definitely receive it and come pick you up.”

“Will… will she throw me out of the palace?” the little girl asked, fearful at the thought.

“She won’t, trust me. But I don’t guarantee that she won’t spank you. This time, you are in the wrong. Just do what I told you. Say sorry, give her the apology meal, and she will quickly stop being angry at you,” he explained calmly.

“Uuuu… O… okay…” The little troublemaker, still depressed, touched her butt in fear at the thought. But for her, it was far better than being thrown out of the palace.

Wei Chen nodded, satisfied at the girl’s obedience.

But before he could contact Youqi, Max suddenly sniffed the air and barked.

“Woof! Woof! Woof! Grrrrrrrrr!” He growled threateningly in the direction he was looking.

At that moment, a group of dark silhouettes slowly appeared on the horizon and walked toward Wei Chen. His spiritual sense could not detect them at all. Only when they entered within a hundred meters did he finally sense their presence.

“These people…” he muttered, then looked at Max. “Are they the assassins?” he asked.

“Woof!” Max replied with a short bark and a nod to confirm.

“I guess they are,” Wei Chen muttered, then positioned himself in front of the little girl to protect her from the assassins.

The group of assassins did not say anything. They immediately brandished their weapons, swords, dual swords, daggers, and even hidden weapons that looked like senbons from a ninja manga. All kinds of weapons that assassins would use.

It had to be said that once again, Wei Chen’s unique black hole core had fooled them. They could not sense his cultivation at all and thought he was just a mortal. The force they brought was meant to deal with Max, who was at the Soul Transformation Realm.

The silence continued, but their movements changed. They rushed at Max, the target they considered the real threat. Two of them went after the little troublemaker, and one came at Wei Chen.

The one who attacked Wei Chen clearly had disdain in his eyes. But the moment he entered Wei Chen’s striking range, he regretted it.

Boom!

Wei Chen punched the aggressor in the stomach, knocking him out with a single blow.

Even though he had been given permission from higher up to kill all these bastards, a child was present. He could not let her witness a gory scene.

Splash!

Before he could do anything further, the child he thought he had protected vanished and kicked one of her assailants in the head like a melon. Blood and gray matter splattered across Wei Chen’s face.

The scene was gory and brutal, as if he were watching a 90s slasher film.

“Damn… and here I thought she was just a little girl,” Wei Chen muttered. Of course, one should never underestimate the daughter of the Lord of Death, especially in this world where killing was rampant.

After a short five minutes of massacring, all of the assailants were dead in various ways. Some of them were burned to a crisp, a few had their heads smashed, while most of them fell to Wei Chen’s Underworld Bone Claw, their souls ripped out. To his surprise, the souls that were torn out were twin souls.

The first was, of course, the soul of the body’s owner, while the second was the soul of the death cheater.

“You! You are the underworld agent! How… how can you track us down?” one of the death cheaters’ souls exclaimed in disbelief.

“If I say I was just minding my own business and then you folks attacked us, would you believe me?” Wei Chen said.

“Liar!” the same death cheater screamed.

“Haaaa… Folks these days. They don’t believe it when someone tells them the truth, huh?” Wei Chen said, faking a long sigh.

“Ummm… Chenchen, can you contact Fourth Mama now? I want to go back already,” the little troublemaker asked again. She seemed quite exhausted.

“Yeah, yeah. Wait a bit. Let me… clear things up first…” Wei Chen was about to contact Youqi, but then an idea struck him.

“Hey… I think I have a way to lower the chance of you getting spanked.”

“Huh? Really?” The little troublemaker’s ears perked up.

— An hour later – Underworld —

Youqi had only managed to get a short rest before she was awakened by a nightmare. In her dream, she saw little Ningning being held hostage by ambitious rogue factions who harbored desires for her husband’s throne.

In the dream, she watched both little Ningning and her husband die. The villains used Ningning as a hostage and forced her husband to commit suicide. After that, they killed little Ningning as well.

She screamed and woke up.

Now she was sobbing, trying to calm herself down from the nightmare, but at that moment, the emergency call notification flared up on her tablet. She wanted to hang up, yet even in her depressed state, she forced herself to fulfill her duty. What if this emergency call was about little Ningning?

She checked the caller’s name. It was Wei Chen. She let out a sigh. This must be about those death cheaters. Honestly, she did not care about them at this moment. She cared far more about little Ningning.

Since she had already taken out the tablet, she answered the call.

“Yes?” she asked shortly, her voice clearly still depressed.

On the screen, she saw Wei Chen looking anxious. He seemed to be somewhere inside a room, a dark room, glancing left and right as if he were afraid someone might find him.

“Ms. Youqi… I found your daughter here. Please send help…”

“What did you say!?”
