How Did I Become an F1 Driver?
Chapter 1525: The Main Race Begins (6K, Extra Update 13/14)_3
Although the Villeneuve circuit is not particularly suited for the W14, it must be said that the second and third sectors of this track are quite appropriate for the characteristics of the W14 to be utilized.
Especially the two DRS zones in the third sector.
It’s as if they were tailor-made for the W14; my W14 loves this stop-go track layout.
When the race reached the third lap, and the DRS was activated by the organizers, Alonso noticed that the Mercedes number 66 behind him was only 0.7 seconds away, sparking a competitive fire in his heart.
Though I am old, my reaction time may indeed not be as good as you young people, but defense doesn’t rely so much on reaction; it depends more on experience. Watch me teach you a lesson, young one.
Don’t think winning two world championships makes you remarkable; I have three world titles myself!
Then, in the first DRS zone of the fourth lap.
After Qin Miao opened the DRS here, he absorbed Alonso’s slipstream while activating the ERS, directly bringing the top speed to 340 kilometers per hour behind Alonso.
The time gap between Qin Miao and Alonso was reduced from 0.8 seconds to 0.6 seconds.
Then, following Alonso through the T13 and T14 chicanes to the start-finish straight, the time gap between Qin Miao and Alonso had been reduced to 0.3 seconds with Qin Miao’s ERS activated.
It is worth mentioning that after Qin Miao began his attack, the director switched the broadcast camera to Qin Miao’s car.
And the camera angle happened to be the one capturing the Champion’s Wall.
On the broadcast screen, you could see, when Qin Miao exited T14, the right rear wheel even collided with the Champion’s Wall, sparking like a cluster of fireworks.
But it had no impact on Qin Miao’s car.
The spark was more from the wheel arch brushing against the Champion’s Wall, rather than a hard collision.
This exceptional exit considerably saved by skill; normally the W14 would lose speed through the chicane, but the gap between Qin Miao and Alonso remained at 0.3 seconds after the exit.
Brother Tou was taken aback seeing this.
These young ones really don’t play by the rules! Racing this fiercely at the start, is this how you drive!
On the track, although Brother Tou knew his hope of defending against Qin Miao was slim, he still stuck to the left side of the track after the exit, ready to block the inside line.
But clearly, Brother Tou didn’t learn from the terrifying acceleration of Qin Miao’s car just now.
Because Qin Miao forcefully overtook Alonso on the outside line.
Though due to the start-finish straight not being particularly long, Qin Miao didn’t completely overtake Alonso, his left rear wheel was still near Alonso’s sidepod.
But at least he was ahead of Alonso’s outside line.
After T1, Alonso and Qin Miao were side by side.
After all, he had the inside advantage in T1, so it’s normal to regain a bit.
But when they got to T2, almost a 180° hairpin, Qin Miao on the inside had a huge advantage.
Although after the exit, Brother Tou was still on Qin Miao’s outside line, Qin Miao smiled slightly, using the method of an eye for an eye.
Just like Alonso squeezed Qin Miao to the track’s edge at the start, now Qin Miao began squeezing Alonso towards the outside, as if preparing to push Alonso out of the track.
Brother Tou saw this, acknowledged Qin Miao’s skill, lifted the throttle, glided a distance, and left Qin Miao’s side, handing over the track position to Qin Miao.
“Beautiful!”
Seeing Qin Miao complete the overtake, the commentators of Five-Star Sports couldn’t help but cheer.
The overtakes by Qin Miao in today’s race indeed made a statement, whether it was the exit at the Champion’s Wall or the positioning in T1 and T2, it was just right.
It exemplified Qin Miao’s consistent clean efficiency.
Once Qin Miao had overtaken Alonso, the time gap between him and Hamilton in front was 2.2 seconds.
Confronting Brother Tou, having 2.2 seconds left to catch up with his teammate after overtaking isn’t unacceptable.
As for Verstappen…
The gap between this guy and Hamilton had already widened to 3.8 seconds.
Indeed, it seemed Verstappen might have eaten something bad, as he was especially vigorous in today’s race, pulling away by almost a second per lap from Hamilton.
Now the time gap with Qin Miao was more than 6 seconds.
Qin Miao was stunned upon seeing this gap.
Damn, I just tangled with Alonso a bit, how did you pull out 6 seconds? It’s only 4 laps in! Alonso only defended a few times and you’ve already gone so far?
Does Verstappen have a fire under his ass or something, running so fast!
Verstappen also had something to say.
What kind of car am I driving, and what are you driving?
In earlier races, when the start wouldn’t pull ahead of you, did you really think it was because of your own speed?
Before, it was I who was careless, didn’t flash, didn’t expect you to use a two-stop strategy to cheat, to ambush, an experienced driver in his twenties like me.
Now with a different pit strategy, I’m widening the gap with you Qin Miao right after the race start.
I’m not driving a conservation car anymore! Qin Miao!
Facing the gradually widening gap with Verstappen, Qin Miao truly had no better strategy at this point than to take it step-by-step.
