House of Blood
Chapter 26: The Fang of the Dragon
The iron gates of the Black-Iron Ridge fortress didn’t just break—they imploded.
Castor’s spatial needle struck Node 1 at the precise 32-degree angle, detonating the Triple-Hex Void Array. The kinetic recoil collapsed the archway inward, burying twenty cultists beneath fifty tons of shattered basalt.
Before the dust could settle, Pollux swept through the breach like a vengeful shadow, her bone dagger coating the stone with black corpse-salt, calcifying the abyssal blood of the survivors into brittle grey ash.
"VECTORS CLEAR!" Castor shrieked from the ledge, his eyes spinning with equations. "PRIMARY CORE IS AT SUB-LEVEL 2!"
Valerian moved through the chaotic smoke like a ghost, his ironwood bo staff striking with mechanical, lethal precision. Every strike broke a joint; every pivot snapped a neck.
Beside him, Kaelen was a whirlwind of raw barbarian power, her bone bludgeons caving in chest plates and scattering guards like autumn leaves.
They tore through the outer perimeter in under three minutes, descending into the cavernous subterranean temple beneath the ridge.
Then, the air went completely dead.
The temperature dropped fifty degrees in a single second.
The sulfurous mist in the cavern froze into black frost, and the stone floor shuddered beneath an overwhelming, suffocating pressure.
’Valerian...’ Wren’s voice inside his mind lost every trace of its usual banter, her phantom tone dropping into absolute, razor-sharp seriousness.
’Careful. This isn’t a puppet host or a lesser shadow. This is an actual High Demon Lord.’
From the center of the subterranean temple, rising out of a massive pool of boiling dragon-blood, a towering twelve-foot figure materialized.
It possessed four massive, curved horns, skin like cracked obsidian armor, and four arms wielding jagged broadswords forged from condensed abyssal void-fire.
Its eyes burned with twin suns of sickly, pale green flame.
Demon Lord Malakor—The Flesh-Eater of the Deep.
"A blind brat wearing barbarian furs and a cheap slate mask..." Malakor’s voice echoed like a tectonic plate shifting, sending shockwaves through the cavern that made Castor bleed from his nose and forced Kaelen back three steps.
"You have slaughtered my cattle across the North, little ghost. But here, you stand in the blood of your own ancestors."
Malakor raised two of his void-fire broadswords.
A wave of oppressive, high-tier abyssal aura crashed over the chamber, pinning Castor and Pollux to their knees.
"Kaelen! Fall back with the twins!" Valerian commanded softly, his pleasant voice cutting through the demonic pressure.
"Sanguis, no!" Kaelen barked, her golden eyes wild as she tried to force her legs forward against the crushing gravity. "You can’t take a High Demon Lord with just leverage!"
"She’s right!" Castor wheezed, his compass cracking in his hand. "Physical mechanics fail when spatial density exceeds D = 4.8! You cannot deflect pure void-fire with ironwood!"
"Clear the chamber," Valerian repeated, his tone leaving zero room for argument.
Kaelen gritted her teeth, grabbed both twins by their collars, and dragged them backward up the stone steps just as Malakor moved.
BOOM!
Malakor vanished, appearing directly above Valerian.
Four broadswords of condensed void-fire descended in a cross-pattern slash meant to turn the entire cavern into ash.
Valerian didn’t try to dodge.
He raised his ironwood bo staff, bracing the center against his shoulder to absorb the kinetic shock through a triple-pivoted stance.
CRACK!
The force of the impact drove Valerian’s boots two inches deep into the solid basalt floor.
The cold-iron caps of his bo staff glowed white-hot, instantly disintegrating under the extreme heat of the abyssal flame.
’The staff won’t survive another blow, partner!’ Wren yelled.
’I know,’ Valerian thought calmly.
Malakor sneered, bringing his second pair of arms down in a horizontal sweep.
"Without aura, you are merely flesh waiting to be eaten!"
Valerian leaned back at a ninety-degree angle, the void-blades skimming millimeters above his black faceless mask.
As he rose, he drove the blunt end of his crumbling staff into Malakor’s lower wrist, but the demon’s obsidian hide didn’t even crack.
Malakor’s tail whipped around like an iron beam, slamming directly into Valerian’s ribs.
THUD!
Valerian was launched backward fifty feet, crashing violently through two stone pillars before skidding across the blood-slicked altar.
His wolf-fur cloak was torn, blood trickled from beneath his slate mask, and his ironwood staff splintered in half, falling to the floor as useless kindling.
Malakor stepped forward slowly, laughing a low, rumbling laugh.
"Is this the ’Ghost’ that terrified the Sec branch? A helpless insect."
Valerian lay in the rubble for three seconds, his chest heaving.
His ribs were cracked, his lungs burning with sulfur.
’Valerian,’ Wren spoke softly in his mind. ’Your dragon core... if you don’t release it now, you will die here.’
’If I release my dragon blood-aura,’ Valerian analyzed, wiping blood off his chin beneath his mask, ’Alexis and Vespera will feel the harmonic resonance across three provinces. But if I don’t use a Sanguis art, I cannot break obsidian hide.’
He slowly pushed himself up.
He stood in the dim light of the subterranean cavern, holding only the six-foot broken half of his ironwood staff.
"You speak of my ancestors’ blood, demon," Valerian spoke, his voice dropping into a chilling, absolute stillness.
He took a slow, deep breath.
Behind his black faceless mask, beneath the rune-carved frost-hide blindfold, Valerian’s eyes shifted.
The dark curse of his past life dissolved, and the Sovereign’s Guilt Eyes flared to life—twin crimson stars burning through the leather fabric.
He didn’t unleash a massive wave of crimson aura that would alert the continent.
Instead, he did something far more dangerous:
Compression.
He pulled his dormant Blood Dragon lineage deep into his marrow, channeling the raw, ancestral technique of the Prim Sanguis main line—a secret art taught only to the bloodline’s true heirs.
Prim Sanguis Secret Art: First Form — The Crimson Needle
He didn’t coat his staff in aura.
He condensed his blood-aura until it was thinner than a strand of hair, wrapping it invisibly around the shattered tip of his wooden staff.
Malakor felt the shift—a sudden, primal instinct of absolute, terrifying terror seizing his demonic heart.
"What... what is this power?!"
Malakor lunged, unleashing all four void-fire blades in a wide, desperate storm of destruction.
Valerian stepped forward.
He didn’t use barbarian footwork.
He used the ancient, refined step of the Sanguis Executioners—
The Phantom Tread.
SWOOSH.
Valerian bypassed the void-fire entirely, appearing inside Malakor’s guard like a flickering shadow.
He thrust the broken wooden staff forward.
There was no explosion.
No roar of dragon fire.
Only a microscopic point of crimson light piercing Malakor’s chest, directly between his obsidian scales.
The invisible thread of compressed Sanguis aura entered the demon’s body, expanded internally, and severed every abyssal soul-anchor in a fraction of a millisecond.
Malakor froze.
His four arms collapsed, his void-fire blades dissolving into ash.
He stared down at the blindfolded, masked boy standing before him, his pale green eyes filled with utter disbelief.
"That stance..." Malakor gasped, his obsidian skin turning to grey dust from the inside out.
"The Executioner’s Tread... You are... a Prim Sanguis..."
"I am a ghost," Valerian whispered.
THUD.
Malakor’s massive frame collapsed into a pile of black ash, leaving the cavern in absolute, echoing silence.
Valerian stood alone, his breathing heavy as he dropped the broken piece of wood.
The crimson light behind his blindfold faded, returning his surroundings to quiet acoustic mapping.

The Ridge Above: The Vanguard Arrives
High above the Black-Iron Ridge, the clouds parted as three massive, blood-red war-barges tore through the sky.
Standing at the prow of the lead barge was Vespera Prim Sanguis, her massive executioner’s broadsword unsheathed and dripping with crimson aura.
Beside her, Alexis stood with his spectacles reflecting the burning ruins of the fortress below.
"The aura signature..." Alexis muttered, his hands trembling as he stared at his spatial tracking compass.
"Vespera... did you feel it?"
Vespera’s crimson eyes were wide, her breath catching in her throat for the first time in three years.
"The Crimson Needle..." Vespera breathed, her voice trembling with a mixture of shock and violent, surging emotion.
"Only our main line knows that stance. Only... he was taught the theory by Father."
"He used it down there," Alexis whispered, his sharp mind connecting every single piece of the puzzle in an instant.
"The Ghost isn’t an imposter. He isn’t a northern vagabond."
Vespera didn’t wait for the war-barge to land.
BOOM!
She leaped from the deck, falling three hundred feet through the air like a bloody meteor, slamming directly into the courtyard of the fortress to find the masked boy before he could vanish into the shadows once again.
