The mouth beneath the fortress opened wider.

Stone mountains cracked as a colossal skull emerged from the darkness, its jaw stretching across the battlefield. Three crimson eyes burned above it, each surrounded by rings of black fire.

Nobody moved.

Then the skull spoke.

“FOUR BLOOD. ONE SOUL.”

Kael tightened his grip on the crimson sword.

“What are you?”

The creature laughed.

“I am what your kings feared to name.”

Azael stepped beside him.

“And what did you do to me?”

The three eyes turned toward Azael.

“I taught you hatred.”

Azael’s face hardened.

“You stole my memories.”

“I removed weakness.”

Black flames suddenly erupted from the ground. Azael raised his white sword and cut through them, but the flames divided and surrounded him.

Kael charged.

His crimson blade struck the darkness.

The explosion threw him backward.

“Kael!” Lena shouted.

She raised both hands.

Silver light spread across the battlefield.

Millions of undead rose again, their crimson eyes burning brighter than before.

“Protect them!”

The dead army moved.

Ancient warriors followed.

The First Enemy lifted its six heads and roared.

“For Azrael!”

The armies collided beneath the falling black sun.

Isabella led the living survivors into the battle. Mara fired bolt after bolt. Ethan covered the wounded while Adrian dragged Seraphine away from collapsing stones.

But Seraphine refused to retreat.

“No,” she whispered.

Her eyes remained fixed on the creature.

“I remember this.”

Adrian stopped.

“You have seen it before?”

“Not seen.”

She swallowed.

“I read about it.”

“What does the record call it?”

Seraphine looked at Kael.

“The Nameless King.”

The creature heard her.

Its enormous eyes narrowed.

“Names are chains.”

Kael stood slowly.

His blood-covered hand began glowing.

“Then why are you afraid of mine?”

The creature became silent.

Azael looked at Kael.

“Azrael.”

Kael’s symbol burned.

“Azael.”

His brother’s symbol answered.

Lena stepped forward.

“Lena.”

Silver fire surrounded her.

Elias raised his weapon.

“Elias.”

Golden light erupted from his veins.

Four lights connected.

The ancient mark formed again above them.

The creature recoiled.

“No.”

Kael advanced.

“You said one soul.”

The creature’s voice trembled.

“Because there should never have been four.”

Azael smiled coldly.

“Then history made a mistake.”

The Nameless King opened its enormous mouth.

Inside was not darkness.

There was a city.

An ancient city floating upside down, filled with towers, temples, and countless frozen figures.

Kael stared.

“That place...”

The shadow mother appeared beside him.

“It is where you were born.”

Kael turned sharply.

“My birthplace?”

She nodded.

“Before the King Before Kings.”

The forgotten king suddenly fell to his knees.

“No...”

The shadow mother looked at him.

“You remember now.”

The forgotten king shook.

“That city was destroyed.”

“No,” she replied.

“It was hidden.”

A deep bell rang inside the creature.

Every ancient warrior stopped fighting.

The dead turned toward the floating city.

Then thousands of frozen figures opened their eyes.

Kael felt something inside his chest answer the bell.

Azael whispered,

“Brother, whatever is in there knows us.”
