Chapter 2581: Story 2582: The War Against the Void
The seven black stars opened.
Darkness poured through the gateway.
It did not fall like ordinary shadows.
It moved with purpose.
It crawled across the golden ocean, consuming possibilities wherever it touched.
Victoria Kane raised the Dawnblade.
"Everyone, stay together!"
The seven successors formed a circle around her.
Arkon raised his sword.
Seraphine lifted her crystal bowl.
Thalen drew his radiant bow.
Ordan planted his shield.
Elara disappeared into the shadows.
Malachor watched the advancing darkness.
Nox’Rath spread his silver wings.
Valerius stood beside him, crimson spear glowing.
The First Hunger stepped forward.
And Dawn stood quietly beside Victoria.
The first Void descended.
It had no face.
Only a vast black body surrounded by countless empty eyes.
"Choice is weakness."
Victoria answered,
"Choice is freedom."
The creature attacked.
Arkon intercepted it.
His sword struck the darkness with enough force to shatter a mountain.
But the Void simply reformed.
Arkon staggered.
"It cannot be destroyed!"
Malachor shouted,
"Because you’re fighting its body!"
Victoria understood.
"The Void isn’t a creature."
She looked at the seven black stars.
"It’s an idea."
The second Void attacked.
Seraphine raised her crystal bowl.
"Then give it another idea."
Silver light spread across the battlefield.
Compassion.
The darkness slowed.
Thalen released an arrow.
Hope.
The Void recoiled.
Ordan stepped forward.
Sacrifice.
Elara followed.
Freedom.
Malachor raised his staff.
Wisdom.
Nox’Rath spread his silver shadows.
Memory.
Seven powers surrounded the darkness.
Victoria raised the Dawnblade.
"And the Dawn gives choice."
The seven symbols on the blade erupted.
Golden energy pierced the first Void.
It screamed.
But instead of disappearing, the creature split into seven smaller forms.
Cole stared.
"That doesn’t look good."
Evelyn shook her head.
"It’s adapting."
Victoria looked toward Dawn.
"What can we do?"
Dawn’s golden eyes remained fixed upon the Void.
"Don’t fight it."
Victoria frowned.
"Then what?"
"Ask it why it exists."
Everyone became silent.
The nearest Void stopped moving.
Its empty eyes turned toward Dawn.
"Why?"
Dawn stepped forward.
"Why do you erase possibility?"
The creature trembled.
"Because possibility creates suffering."
Victoria lowered her weapon.
"Not every possibility becomes suffering."
"But every possibility can."
Dawn looked at Victoria.
"That’s why choice matters."
The Void remained silent.
Then another voice emerged from the darkness.
"Do not listen to them."
The First Betrayer looked upward.
"The Seven Voids."
Seven enormous faces appeared within the black stars.
The Betrayer’s expression changed.
"They are afraid."
Valerius raised his spear.
"Of what?"
Dawn answered.
"Of uncertainty."
The Void screamed.
All seven stars fired beams of darkness toward the golden ocean.
Victoria raised the Dawnblade.
"Everyone!"
The ancient guardians joined their power.
The First Hunger released a wave of crimson darkness.
Valerius’s spear became a pillar of red fire.
Nox’Rath’s silver shadows wrapped around the golden gateways.
Dawn opened both hands.
A brilliant wave of golden light spread across creation.
The seven beams collided with it.
The impact shook every newborn world.
Victoria felt the Dawnblade burning in her hands.
"We can’t hold forever!"
Malachor looked toward the Gate of Origin.
"Then we don’t."
He pointed beyond the battlefield.
"Close the gateway."
Victoria stared.
"If we close it, the Void remains inside."
"No."
Malachor shook his head.
"We close every gateway except one."
Victoria understood.
"Trap them?"
"Not trap."
Dawn smiled.
"Choose."
Victoria raised the Dawnblade.
One by one, the golden gateways began closing.
The seven Voids were forced toward a single passage.
The darkness screamed.
"YOU CANNOT CONTAIN US!"
Victoria looked toward them.
"We don’t need to contain you."
She lowered the Dawnblade.
"We only need to make you choose."
The final gateway remained open.
Beyond it was an empty newborn universe.
No life.
No memory.
No suffering.
Only possibility.
The seven Voids hesitated.
For the first time...
They had somewhere they could choose to exist without destroying anything.
Dawn stepped toward them.
"Your choice."
The seven black stars trembled.
Then the smallest Void moved forward.
It entered the empty universe.
The others followed.
The gateway began closing.
But before it disappeared, the largest Void looked back at Victoria.
"Choice has consequences."
Victoria smiled.
"So does refusing it."
The gateway closed.
Silence returned.
For a moment, everyone believed the war was over.
Then Elias Crow’s journal opened.
One final sentence appeared.
The Void has chosen a world.
Victoria’s expression changed.
"Which world?"
Evelyn stared at the page.
Her face became pale.
"Asterion."
Far away, the Heart of Harmony suddenly went dark.
And beneath the restored city...
Something began knocking.
