Chapter 2557: Story 2558: The Seven Who Would Share the Burden

  • Next Chapter

The hidden chamber beneath the palace glowed with soft silver light.

Seven crystal thrones stood in a perfect circle around a tranquil pool whose surface reflected not faces, but memories. Above them, the ancient inscription continued to shimmer.

Only when seven hearts willingly share one burden shall the Heart of Silence become the Heart of Harmony once again.

Victoria Kane stepped into the chamber first.

The Living Dawn within her heart illuminated the crystal walls with gentle gold.

"So this is the answer."

Dr. Evelyn Brooks carefully studied the carvings surrounding the thrones.

"They’re not seats of power."

"They’re places of sacrifice."

Aurelius lowered his eyes.

"I prayed no one would ever find this chamber."

"Why?" Cole Mercer asked.

"Because I knew what it demanded."

He looked at each throne.

"No one can force this ritual."

"Each person must choose freely."

Father Gabriel smiled softly.

"Then it is not a burden."

"It is a gift."

The chamber suddenly trembled.

Above them, another silver thread snapped.

Far across the Silent City, more citizens collapsed to their knees.

Their breathing became weaker.

Time was running out.

Lyra floated gently beside Victoria, the cracked silver sphere still surrounding her.

"I can hear them crying now."

"They’re afraid."

Tears formed in her silver eyes.

"They’ve forgotten what fear feels like..."

"...but their hearts remember."

Victoria gently squeezed the girl’s hand.

"They won’t face it alone."

One of the crystal thrones suddenly began to glow.

A warm golden light spread across its surface.

The inscription changed.

The First Heart must choose.

Without hesitation, Victoria walked forward.

"I’ll begin."

She sat upon the throne.

The moment she did, countless streams of silver light rushed toward her.

Every sorrow, every grief, every forgotten tear stored inside the Heart touched her soul.

For one terrifying instant...

She felt millions of lonely hearts.

She saw mothers mourning children they could no longer remember.

She felt fathers who had forgotten the joy of hearing laughter.

She experienced generations of silent suffering buried beneath perfect obedience.

Victoria gasped.

The pain was overwhelming.

Golden light flared from within her heart, steadying the storm.

"I understand..."

She whispered.

"This is what they’ve been carrying."

The first throne transformed from silver into radiant gold.

The inscription changed again.

Six Hearts Remain.

Cole stepped forward.

"You didn’t think I’d let you do this alone."

He dropped his backpack beside the throne and grinned.

"I’ve survived zombies."

"I can survive feelings."

Even Victoria laughed through her tears.

Cole sat down.

Immediately, memories of courage flooded into him.

Every citizen who had wanted to protect someone but never found the strength.

Every dream abandoned because fear had silenced it.

His smile disappeared.

"I..."

"I can feel all of them."

Golden light surrounded his throne.

Lucas walked forward next.

"For every child who forgot how to dream."

Selene placed a hand on his shoulder.

"And for every soldier who forgot why they fought."

They took their seats together, followed by Roland Thorne, who chose to carry centuries of guilt and regret without hesitation.

"I know this weight."

"Let me bear it."

Father Gabriel smiled peacefully before sitting upon the sixth throne.

"If hope is shared..."

"...then so is sorrow."

Only one throne remained empty.

Everyone turned toward Dr. Evelyn.

She looked at the silver journal in her hands.

Its final page filled with new words.

Knowledge remembers. Compassion restores. The final heart must unite memory with mercy.

She closed the journal gently.

"I accept."

As she sat upon the seventh throne, all seven crystal seats blazed with brilliant light.

The chamber shook.

Above them, the Heart of Silence cracked from top to bottom.

The countless silver threads connecting the citizens began changing into threads of gold.

Lyra’s crystal prison dissolved into sparkling dust.

She slowly descended to the ground.

For the first time in three hundred years...

She stood upon her own feet.

Then, across the Silent City, a sound echoed that no one had heard in generations.

A child laughed.

One laugh became two.

Then dozens.

Then hundreds.

The silent world had remembered its first song.
