Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Yan Luoxi’s Mom Comes Knocking
Chen Dongmei froze for a moment.
"Yes, this is Building 7, Unit 3."
She looked with confusion at the wealthy-looking middle-aged woman who had suddenly called out to her.
Hearing her answer, the middle-aged woman’s eyes lit up.
’I’ve finally found it!’
"Alright, thank you."
Tang Wanfang thanked Chen Dongmei.
That was right!
The wealthy-looking middle-aged woman was none other than Yan Luoxi’s mother, Tang Wanfang. After some digging, she had finally discovered that her daughter had bought an apartment in Building 7, Unit 3 of this complex. However, the complex was old and had a confusing layout, and she had spent ages searching without finding the right building.
So, she had resorted to stopping passersby for directions, and after asking all this way, she had finally arrived at Building 7, Unit 3.
She planned to go up and take a look to confirm which apartment her daughter was in. Then, she would find another time to come back and secretly catch her daughter, to see which man she was living with lately.
’It couldn’t be helped!’
’With her daughter’s personality, she would never admit to anything unless she was caught red-handed!’
Seeing the middle-aged woman’s expression shifting anxiously, Chen Dongmei, who had always been a warm-hearted person, couldn’t help but ask, "Hello, is something wrong?"
"Huh?"
Hearing Chen Dongmei’s voice, Tang Wanfang snapped out of her daze.
"Oh... sorry, I was just spacing out."
she said, a little embarrassed.
"It’s nothing. But you look so anxious. Is something wrong, or are you looking for someone?"
Chen Dongmei didn’t mind and asked again casually.
Seeing her warm-heartedness, Tang Wanfang decided to speak up. "Well, this might sound a bit silly."
"It’s like this. My daughter and I had an argument after I said a couple of things to her. She got angry and ran away from home, and she hasn’t contacted us since."
"After asking around, I found out she was living in this complex, so I came to look for her on the sly."
"The building layout in this complex is so confusing. It took me forever asking for directions just to find my way to Building 7, Unit 3."
Tang Wanfang said, spinning a half-truth.
"Oh... it’s that serious?"
Chen Dongmei said, frowning.
"Uh... well, it’s not that bad. It’s just that my daughter is very stubborn. I was afraid she’d get angry with me again if she knew I was looking for her, so I came secretly just to see how she’s doing."
"Hehehe..."
Tang Wanfang laughed awkwardly.
"I see. But don’t you worry too much. Kids are all like that these days. They have their own ideas, talking about ’living their own independent lives’... Ugh, I don’t get it anyway. They won’t listen if you say too much. My own boy is the same way. I’m actually here to see him today!"
Chen Dongmei said, speaking from experience.
"Oh?"
Hearing Chen Dongmei say that, Tang Wanfang asked in surprise, "Sister, did your son run away from home too?"
"Er..."
"No, my boy works in the city, so he moved out on his own."
Chen Dongmei explained, waving her hand.
Tang Wanfang said, "Then your son is doing fine. At least he moved out for work. Not like my daughter... ugh, I don’t even know what to say about her..."
Perhaps it was because they were both parents, they found they had a lot to talk about.
And so, the two extroverted, middle-aged women, who had just met, struck up a conversation.
...
After chatting for a long while, Chen Dongmei suddenly remembered she had to go catch her bus.
So she said, "Oh my, we hit it off so well chatting, I almost forgot what I was doing."
"Do you... have somewhere urgent to be?"
Tang Wanfang asked.
"Oh, it’s not that urgent, I just need to catch the bus back to make dinner for my husband. That man of mine, if I don’t go back, he’d probably forget to eat!"
Chen Dongmei said with a wave of her hand.
"I see!"
"You two are so sweet together!"
Tang Wanfang said with a smile.
"Not at all! We’re too old for all that lovey-dovey stuff!"
"We’ve just lived together for so long, we’ve gotten used to having each other around."
Chen Dongmei said, a little bashfully.
"Well... since you have things to do, Sister, I won’t keep you. Let’s add each other on WeChat. We can get together for tea sometime."
Tang Wanfang proposed.
"Okay!"
Chen Dongmei didn’t think twice and nodded.
The two then took out their phones and added each other on WeChat.
"Oh, right, we’ve been chatting for so long and I still don’t know your name!"
Chen Dongmei said, "My name is Chen Dongmei. Most people just call me Old Chen, and you can too."
"Oh, look at me, how forgetful! Sister Chen, I’m Tang Wanfang. You can just call me Wanfang!"
Tang Wanfang said with a smile.
"Alright, I’ll get going then. Let’s chat again when we have the chance!"
Chen Dongmei said, waving her phone.
"Sister Chen, let me give you a ride!"
Tang Wanfang offered.
"Oh... no need. The bus stop is just a few steps from the complex entrance. Don’t go to the trouble!"
Chen Dongmei waved her hand dismissively. "You should go up and see if your daughter is home. Then you two can have a good talk!"
"But... it’s no problem!"
"I’ve found the place anyway, so I can always come back later!"
Tang Wanfang insisted.
"Really, there’s no need for the trouble. Alright, Wanfang, I’m off. You should hurry up and go see her!"
Chen Dongmei politely refused again.
It wasn’t that she was afraid Tang Wanfang was a scammer; she was a good enough judge of character to know she wasn’t.
It was simply in Chen Dongmei’s nature—she really didn’t want to inconvenience anyone.
"Alright then!"
Seeing her insistence, Tang Wanfang had no choice but to drop the matter.
"In that case, Sister Chen, we’ll chat on WeChat!"
she said, waving her phone.
"Okay!"
Chen Dongmei nodded and turned to leave.
Tang Wanfang watched Chen Dongmei’s figure disappear into the distance before looking away.
She shook her head, glanced at the entrance to Building 7, Unit 3, and then started heading up.
...
"Hmm, was it apartment 30-something on the third floor?"
Tang Wanfang muttered to herself at the top of the third-floor staircase.
As she spoke, she walked over to apartments 305 and 306. For a moment, she really couldn’t remember the exact apartment number.
Just as she was thinking this, Tang Wanfang was about to pull out her phone to call Roy and ask.
Just then,
CLICK. The door to apartment 305 opened.
Tang Wanfang was so startled that she jumped, nearly dropping her phone.
"Uh..."
Gu Yizhou was also taken aback.
He looked at the elegantly dressed middle-aged woman before him with a puzzled expression. "Hello, are you...?"
Hearing Gu Yizhou’s voice, Tang Wanfang snapped back to reality.
She realized she had lost her composure and quickly said, "Oh, I’m so sorry. I’m looking for someone, but I’ve forgotten the apartment number for a moment. My apologies."
