Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Brother Yizhou, You’re Famous

At 9:00 AM, Gu Yizhou hurried into the office carrying breakfast.

As usual, Gu Yizhou greeted the receptionist, Shen Meng, before heading straight for his desk.

On his way, he couldn’t shake the feeling that his colleagues were looking at him strangely. Some even pointed at him, whispering amongst themselves.

Although Gu Yizhou was a bit confused, he didn’t think much of it.

After all, it didn’t seem like there was any malice in their stares.

He had barely sat down at his desk when He Mingyi, Song Sisi, and a few others crowded around.

The way they stared at him was so intense, it was as if they wanted to eat him alive.

"Uh..."

Gu Yizhou stared at them, completely dumbfounded, and asked timidly, "Hey, what’s with you guys? Why are you all looking at me like that?"

"Old Gu, you’ve gone viral!"

He Mingyi couldn’t help but blurt out.

"Huh?"

Gu Yizhou was slightly taken aback.

"Old Gu, I never realized you were holding out on us like this!"

He Mingyi said again.

"????"

With a look of utter confusion, Gu Yizhou asked, "What are you talking about?"

’Seeing his clueless expression, it seems like he really has no idea what’s going on!’

He Mingyi said with some surprise, "No way, Old Gu. Do you just not go online at home?"

Hearing his disjointed words, Gu Yizhou became even more confused.

Seeing this, Song Sisi quickly stepped in to explain. "Brother Yizhou, did you go back to Modu University of Finance and Economics to perform a few days ago?"

"Uh... I did!"

Gu Yizhou was slightly taken aback. Though he wondered how Song Sisi knew about this, he still nodded and casually explained, "It was the school’s 70th-anniversary gala. I was invited back as an alumnus to perform."

"That’s it!"

"Brother Yizhou, someone posted a video of you singing at the gala online. It’s blown up, and now the whole internet is looking for you!"

"A lot of big shots and entertainment companies are even putting out feelers online, extending olive branches to you!"

Song Sisi explained.

Gu Yizhou: "..."

To be honest, he really had no idea about any of this.

A couple of days ago, he had received a text from his class president, Lan Yuting, saying his performance was getting a good response online. At the time, he hadn’t paid it any mind, just assuming she was being polite.

After all, the anniversary gala that night had been live-streamed, so it wasn’t surprising that some people online had seen him sing.

He wasn’t naive enough to think that by casually singing one song, he could have such a big impact on the world.

After all, real life wasn’t a novel, especially not one of those brainless showbiz power fantasies where the main character sings a single song and instantly blows up online. A world where all sorts of big shots would hail him as a genius, and celebrity singers would come flocking, fawning over him and begging him to write them songs.

’Only... am I now following the script of a protagonist from a brainless showbiz power fantasy novel?’

Gu Yizhou thought to himself with a touch of self-mockery.

"Old Gu, you’ve blown up all over the internet! All you have to do is nod, and you can sign with an entertainment company right away. You’ll be a huge star in a flash!"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk, I’m so jealous!"

As Gu Yizhou’s mind was wandering, He Mingyi, filled with envy, said in a sour tone, "Old Gu, don’t forget us when you get rich and famous!"

Snapping back to his senses, Gu Yizhou glanced at him and said with a sigh, "You’re getting way ahead of yourself."

"Hey, it’s not like that!"

"Old Gu, it seems you don’t understand the power of the internet!"

"Let me show you something, and you’ll get it!"

He Mingyi said, seeing that Gu Yizhou didn’t seem to believe him.

With that, he turned, grabbed his phone, opened a website, tapped on the top-ranked video, and held it out to Gu Yizhou.

"Old Gu, see for yourself!"

Gu Yizhou glanced over and saw that it was, in fact, the video of his solo performance from the anniversary gala.

In the bottom right corner of the video, the view count showed 100 million+, which did surprise Gu Yizhou a little.

He shook his head. Instead of narcissistically clicking play to watch himself, he glanced at the comment section below the video.

"HOLY CRAP, what kind of godly voice is this?!"

"I’m swooning! I’m in love with this guy!"

"The guy’s cute, no doubt, but as a veteran perv, I’m more interested in the girl in the crowd who was filming..."

"Holy crap, bro, you’ve got a good eye!"

"+1"

"Speaking from my years of experience in the music industry, kid, you’re about to blow up..."

"Even without professional equipment, this performer’s skill surpasses most singers on the market. Hmm, he’s almost on my level..."

"It really does sound good, and it’s an original song too!"

"So what if it’s good? If I were to unleash even thirty percent of my power when I sing in the shower, how would you possibly compete?"

"I’m offering ten bucks for any info on this guy! A net-wide search!"

...

After a quick scan, Gu Yizhou was inclined to believe what He Mingyi and the others had said. His performance video had indeed gone viral.

After all, over a hundred million views was truly rare these days.

But a viral video didn’t mean the person behind it was famous. It was like those early viral sensations from years ago—the original internet celebrities who became famous overnight, but ultimately, only their content was remembered.

And to be honest, even if he did get famous, and even if an entertainment company came knocking, Gu Yizhou had no intention of quitting his job to join the entertainment industry.

The entertainment industry was a murky, treacherous world. He didn’t like that kind of life, full of scheming and completely devoid of freedom.

If he had wanted to just copy and paste his way to fame using works from his previous world, he wouldn’t have continued his career as a financial investment analyst after being reborn.

Finally, and most importantly, he didn’t want to ruin the classic songs from his past life on Earth.

Singing one or two of them himself occasionally was one thing, but turning it into a career was not what he wanted.

"So, Old Gu? You’re pretty shocked yourself, huh?"

"Let me tell you, this is just on one platform! On other platforms, your video’s view count is also in the top ten!"

"Also, let me tell you something else. When you first came into the office, did you notice that the colleagues from other departments were looking at you funny?"

Hearing He Mingyi’s words, Gu Yizhou paused.

He frowned slightly, turned to He Mingyi, and asked, "What do you mean?"

"What else could it mean? They’re envious and jealous of you!"

"Did you know? Before you even got here this morning, an entertainment company came to our office looking to poach you!"

"But for some reason, they ended up getting kicked out by security!"

"So that’s why your colleagues were looking at you funny!"

He Mingyi explained casually.

Upon hearing this, Gu Yizhou’s frown deepened. He turned his head to look toward Song Sisi and Chen Yuqi.

Sensing Gu Yizhou’s questioning gaze, Song Sisi gave a slight nod.

Gu Yizhou: "..."
