Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying
Chapter 1234: Emergency Bulletin
Chapter 1234 -50: Emergency Bulletin
Till the alarm rang in the morning, Vid finally got out of bed.
The aroma of fried bacon and toasted bread filled the house from the kitchen to the living room, but Fiona wasn’t humming a tune while setting the table as usual; instead, she was sitting in a chair, lost in thought.
“Don’t be like this, Fiona.”
Ferdinand gently advised, “Vid is not going to school for the first time. If you’re so reluctant, he’ll worry too.”
“I know.”
Fiona quickly blinked away the tears that had welled up, her voice tight as she said,
“It’s just that… I’m a bit unwilling. This holiday was too short, like someone stole it away…”
“But Easter will be here soon.” Ferdinand said, holding her hand, “Vid will come home during Easter; you won’t have to wait long.”
“No, don’t tell Vid — to promise that he’ll come back for Easter.”
Fiona sniffed, but said,
“What if he wants to stay at school to review his coursework? It’s the O.W.L.s year, after all, and he… he surely wants to study as hard as he can, he might not have time to come back.”
Ferdinand smiled helplessly and said, “Alright, I won’t mention it.”
Vid stood quietly at the stairway for a moment, only going downstairs when the talking ceased.
Fiona had already put on a smile as usual, as she took out a large brown paper bag from the cupboard, busy stuffing it with steaming buttered bread and sandwiches, along with a few boxes of cream cakes.
“Vid!”
Seeing her son, she immediately raised her voice and said,
“Make sure to put these in your traceable extension bag! After all, the train ride takes the whole day, don’t go to school hungry again!”
“Thank you, Mom.”
Vid looked at the bulging paper bag and couldn’t help saying, “But this is too much.”
“Not too much, you can share it with your classmates.” Fiona said firmly, “You’re all growing kids, the trolley snacks can’t replace a proper meal!”
By the dining table, Ferdinand said with a smile, “Alright, hurry and have breakfast! The roads are slippery today, Vid has to leave early to avoid missing the train departure time.”
After a quick breakfast, Vid put on his coat, Fiona helped him tie his scarf, and finally couldn’t resist opening her arms to give her son a tight hug.
“Remember to eat well at school, send Mom a message every day for peace of mind, even if it’s just a word… Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, okay? Take care of yourself.”
“I will, Mom.”
Vid hugged her back.
He was already a head taller than Fiona, but in his mother’s eyes, he seemed like the same child who had just learned to speak.
He looked towards his father, Ferdinand nodded steadily, his expression as calm as possible but still containing a hint of reluctance.
Vid smiled and, after letting go of his mother, embraced his father too.
“I’ll be back for Easter break.”
He said softly to his parents, “You know, exams are easy for me, there’s no need to cram at the last minute.”
Fiona couldn’t help but smile, joyfully said, “That’s great! I’ll make your favorite roast chicken then…”
Just then, an urgent voice suddenly came from the Flow Mirror beside the sofa:
“Sorry to interrupt the scheduled program; here is an urgent news alert.”
Everyone turned their heads, only to see the original sports program interrupted, the blonde female anchor disappearing from the screen unexpectedly, replaced by a wizard news host with an extremely serious expression.
He looked down at the script in his hand, unable to hide his astonishment, and paused before speaking in a short and clear voice:
“We’ve just received an urgent, top-priority bulletin from the joint news office of the Magic Law Enforcement Department and the Prophet Daily, regarding the major scandal at Ilvermorny Magic School in North America—”
“The former headmaster Agilbert Fontaine and several core faculty members have been leaking information about Muggle-born and Half-Blood Wizard students to unknown external forces over a long period—the joint investigation team released preliminary examination reports ten minutes ago.”
“The contents of the report… are extremely shocking.”
The host deliberately paused, lifting his eyes as if making direct eye contact with the audience opposite the mirror.
“Preliminary evidence shows that the leaks were not accidental or isolated incidents, but have lasted for several years, covering 176 underage students in a major malignant event!”
“This is unimaginable, a betrayal against the entire Magic World! It’s a blatant tear of the Confidentiality Law! It’s destroying the future of the Magic World!”
On Fiona’s pale face, the screen flashed with countless student files, children in the photos bearing very young faces, with eyes brimming with endless longing for the Magic World.
“What’s more serious—”
The host’s voice suddenly heightened, “Amelia Bones, Director of the Magic Law Enforcement Department, pointed out that this incident exposed catastrophic loopholes in certain institutions’ fundamental duty of ‘protecting students against specific threats’!”
“Minister Sinclaire emphasized that no tradition can override the ‘absolute bottom line’ of protecting student safety!”
“From now on, if any underage wizard fails to attend magic school at the appropriate age or suddenly withdraws during school, the Ministry of Magic will track their whereabouts thoroughly!”
“The lesson from Ilvermorny must be remembered, and we must ensure that it’s never repeated anywhere else!”
“The subsequent impact of this incident is far-reaching, and our channel will continue to follow and track the fundamental changes it could bring to the international magic education landscape. We also remind parents to closely monitor safety notices from their local magic schools…”
The insertion ended abruptly, the Flow Mirror screen jumped back to the original sports news, the blonde anchor hurriedly put down her Friendship Book and awkwardly continued the previous topic.
But nobody from the Grey Family was concerned about the impact of broom tail-flames on Quidditch matches anymore; Fiona’s hands were still covering her mouth, her face full of fear.
“Thank Merlin… Thank God… we didn’t go to the United States those years…”
She said incoherently, tears streaming down.
“Ferdy, do you remember? Do you remember that time? You contemplated for the better development of the company, we should immigrate to the United States. We almost… almost…”
“I remember, dear, I definitely remember.”
Ferdinand held her cold, trembling hand and looked at Vid, explaining:
“Vid, you might not remember, when you were little, we discussed the issue of immigration.”
“But at that time, we held on to a glimmer of hope, just in case… in case you had magic power…” Fiona choked, saying, “In case you were different… Hogwarts was the most suitable place for you…”
They grew up hearing “Hogwarts is the best magic school,” especially since Bones and Black were in the United Kingdom.
The Greys thought, even if they had long broken ties with the former family, should their son encounter any difficulties at school, they could thick-skinnedly contact and seek help.
Clinging to that faint hope, despite the UK undergoing a painful transition while the US developing explosively, the Greys stayed.
Now under the news reflected from the Flow Mirror, that choice seemed incredibly correct, even life-saving for their family.
“The Johnson family…”
Fiona suddenly recalled something and said in a trembling voice, “Carrel’s disappearance, could it be because of…”
Ferdinand’s lips pressed into a taut line; he slowly nodded and said, “I’m afraid so…”
He sighed long, and words failed him under the heavy weight.
The living room fell silent.
Vid slightly furrowed his brow, watching the blonde witch in the Flow Mirror trying to recover the mood, without saying anything.
Then, he received another hug, forceful enough to seemingly blend one into the others’ bones and blood.
“Thank you… Vid, thank you for still being by mom’s side…”
Fiona choked, her voice blurred and unclear, “Thank heaven, fate didn’t take you away from me… You must be safe, my child…”
