Hogwarts: Bloodline Legend
Chapter 1176 375: City Rescue_3
In the distance, Cam was kneeling before a row of newly dug pits. Seven bodies covered with white cloth lay in neat order, the insignia of the Dusk Hermit Association resting quietly on each chest.
"Dig deeper." Carina had somehow walked up behind him, her voice light as a sigh. "At least three meters, then scatter salt and sulfur."
Cam jerked his head up, the grief in his eyes instantly replaced by alertness. "You know what this is?"
"I know more than you think." Carina drew a small cloth pouch from her sleeve. "Use this. Every single one must be treated."
When Cam untied the pouch and saw the powder inside shimmering with blue light, his pupils constricted sharply. "This is... from the Eye of the Ra..."
"Tears powder." Carina cut him off. "It can purify Spirit Bodies that have been corrupted. Move quickly, we don't have much time."
The two of them looked together toward the Temple. The sky there was even darker now, and at the center of the vortex a huge shadow could be vaguely seen taking shape.
Cam suddenly noticed that his palms were glowing—the blue powder staining them was resonating with the portent on the horizon.
"The sun..." he murmured, "If it never rises again..."
"Then that means It has succeeded." The runes on Carina's skin shimmered faintly in the dim light. "It means all life will become Its extension, like..." Her gaze swept over the golden dots on the foreheads of the corpses.
A bone-piercing chill crawled up Cam's spine. At last he understood the deeper meaning behind the woman in black robes' words—those Ghost Brides, those Mummy Priests, were nothing but transitional forms.
When the true 'One Who Returns to Unity' descends, even Death itself will be Assimilated.
"My lady!" A young Priest ran up in haste, an unnatural flush on his face. "Three more injured with golden points on their foreheads have been found in the northern district, they... they're saying strange things..."
Carina closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them again, all worry and fatigue were hidden behind a mask of calm. "Isolate them. Anoint their entire bodies with the Holy Oil I gave you. Remember, do not look directly into their eyes."
The young Priest departed with his orders. As he left, Cam noticed Carina's fingers tracing an ancient symbol over her chest.
"You foresaw all this long ago, didn't you?" Cam couldn't help asking. "Those stockpiles of medicine and food, the evacuation plan... Anyone can see you were prepared."
He had in fact harbored this question for quite some time, and now, once again, Carina did not give a clear answer. She raised her head to the increasingly dark sky, her gaze tinged with concern. Suddenly, her body gave a slight tremor—in the far-off darkness, a streak of blue-gold light pierced the vortex like a sword!
"My lady..." The elderly High Priest hobbled closer, leaning on his staff, his voice hoarse. He too spoke with cautious deference. "Can you see whether we still have hope tomorrow?"
It was a veiled question. In the language system of Ancient Egypt, "tomorrow" and "sunrise" share the same root—he was asking whether the sun's radiance might be lost forever.
A word to match a word.
Carina gently stroked the rune fading from her cheek.
Ever since that gray-eyed boy crashed into her prophecy-sight, all visions of the future had become blurred and indistinct. He was like a stone thrown into the river of fate, stirring up concentric ripples that could no longer be predicted.
"I no longer know."
She gazed at the blue-gold radiance flaring once more in the distance.
There was weight in the woman's tone, and the old Priest's expression froze. But what Carina said next made everyone who heard it lift their heads:
"So, we can only pin our hopes on him being our Savior."
As if responding to her words, the blue-gold light in the darkness over the Temple suddenly surged, like a newborn sunrise, piercing through the shroud of gloom that covered the world.
