His Identical Sons Led Him Back to Her
Chapter 59: Let Me Introduce You to a Doctor
After leaving the school, the father and son sat in the car in complete silence.
After a long while, Samuel Ford finally said, "I didn’t expect you to say those things."
Jean Vance glanced at him. "That was meant for you, too."
He was no different from that teacher.
In his eyes, Felix Ford was just a mischievous troublemaker. Everyone thought so. They were convinced Felix was the naughty one, so whenever something bad happened, he must have done it. That’s why they never asked questions and just paid the other party off.
In doing so, they had unwittingly pinned all the blame squarely on Felix Ford’s head.
Hearing his words, Samuel Ford’s hands tightened unconsciously as past events resurfaced in his mind.
When Felix Ford first started kindergarten, he was always getting into trouble. When Shawn Ford brought him home, Felix would only say that others were bullying him, but who would believe that? It was a good day if *he* wasn’t the one bullying others. Later on, he gradually stopped saying much at all.
He didn’t care about being called to the principal’s office and wouldn’t say a word about it when he got home, acting as if he hadn’t done anything wrong.
Samuel had just assumed he was getting more and more mischievous and had never considered the real reason.
Looking back now, the grievance in his son’s eyes slowly became clearer in his mind. Then, later, all that was left in those eyes was indifference.
’Is it because no one would have believed him even if he spoke up, so he just decided not to say anything at all?’
’He must be so disappointed in me.’
"I’m sorry."
Hearing this, Jean Vance shot him a look, somewhat surprised. He hadn’t expected this man to apologize to a child.
’At least he’s not a lost cause.’
"Mm," he responded casually, not giving it much thought.
Closing his eyes, he calculated the time. It was about time to switch back. He would consider this a parting gift for Felix Ford.
’I hope he can be a little happier from now on.’
Felix Ford didn’t find out what had happened until school let out that afternoon. He saw Paddy sniffling, his head hung low as he trailed after his parents. Overhearing the surrounding chatter, Felix learned that Paddy had been caught bullying someone, and he couldn’t help but gloat a little.
’I just knew everyone would see his true colors one day.’
’Hmph, a bully who tattles first. Paddy is the worst.’
Seeing him crying so miserably now put Felix in a great mood. He gripped the straps of his backpack, his chin held much higher as he walked.
He didn’t notice a kid from Class Eight looking on, utterly shocked by what he’d heard.
He looked at Paddy, then at Felix Ford, and slapped his forehead. He remembered!
"Jean Vance" from his class looked just like "Felix Ford" from Class One!
He was there when Paddy, unaware that someone had stuck a turtle drawing on his back, had turned to laugh at "Felix Ford" from Class One. He had seen "Felix’s" face then.
It was identical to "Jean Vance’s."
He knew he looked so familiar.
’Identical twins. How amazing.’
Felix Ford had no idea what the other boy was thinking. Spotting Amanda Vance, he rushed over and threw his arms around her waist, calling out joyfully, "Mom!"
His tone was full of excitement, and Amanda Vance couldn’t help but smile. She bent down and pinched his little cheek. "Why is it that every time, you act like you haven’t seen Mom in ages?"
Felix Ford nodded matter-of-factly and said earnestly, "It’s true! We haven’t seen each other for several hours. That’s a super long time."
’It’s only been a few hours.’
Amanda Vance chuckled at his antics. Seeing the clinginess on his face, she played along and nodded. "Mm, it has been a long time."
She took his backpack, held his hand, and asked as they walked, "How was your day at school?"
"It was pretty good!" Felix Ford obediently fastened his seatbelt, swinging his short legs as he recounted everything that happened at school, down to who he talked to and what he ate.
The little boy’s speech wasn’t very clear yet, and he was a bit long-winded, but Amanda Vance listened patiently, chiming in with a word or two now and then, which only made Felix Ford speak with even more enthusiasm.
The mother and son chatted all the way home.
Smelling a faint medicinal scent in the house, Felix Ford sniffed the air and asked nervously, "Mom, are you sick?"
"No, an old grandpa is sick. I made some medicine for him."
She had opened the windows to air the place out before she left, but she didn’t expect the smell to linger.
Hearing that she wasn’t sick, Felix Ford breathed a sigh of relief, then asked curiously, "Which old grandpa? Do I know him?"
"It’s the old grandpa Mom went to see yesterday. You don’t know him yet. I’ll take you to see him when you’re on vacation."
"Okay!"
The mention of the sick old grandpa inevitably made Felix Ford think of his own grandfather, who was also always sick and lived in the hospital year-round.
His grandpa was pretty nice to him, always treating him to delicious food.
He had only just found out today that his mom knew how to treat illnesses, but he didn’t know if she could cure his grandpa.
He wanted to ask but was afraid she would notice something was off. He bit his lip, hesitating.
"What’s wrong?" Amanda Vance came over with a glass of water and saw his conflicted little expression, his brows furrowed like a tiny mountain, as if he were troubled by something very difficult.
"Nothing." Felix Ford shook his head, hopped off the sofa, and ran off after saying, "Mom, I’m going to my room."
Watching him go, Amanda Vance raised an eyebrow but didn’t press him. If he wanted to tell her, he would.
Gently closing the door, Felix Ford took his little phone out of his backpack, hid in the bathroom, put the toilet lid down, sat on it, and used his small hands to dial a number. "Hello, Second Uncle."
"Yeah, what’s up, Colt?" Shawn Ford was in the middle of a game when he got the call. He had almost cursed when the call came in. Only when he saw it was this little rascal did he suppress his temper, tell his teammates something, and answer.
If he didn’t take his call, there was no telling what kind of tantrum this little rascal would throw later.
’No, wait. Lately, Colt just looks at me with disdain. He’s respecting me less and less as his second uncle.’
Sighing, Shawn Ford asked, "What is it? What do you need me for?"
"Second Uncle, do you know what illness Grandpa has?" Felix Ford glanced outside and whispered into the phone.
"A cerebral infarction." Hearing him ask this, Shawn Ford’s expression grew heavy. He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Why are you suddenly asking about this?"
"It’s nothing, I was just asking. Can you send me a copy of Grandpa’s medical records? I know a very skilled doctor, I can let her take a look."
"You know a very skilled doctor?" Shawn Ford burst out laughing at that. Of course, he didn’t believe it, but he didn’t want to crush the kid’s enthusiasm. After all, it was a display of filial piety, even if it sounded a little ridiculous.
"Sure, I’ll send it to you in a bit."
"Mm."
’He didn’t know how capable his mom was, but in his heart, he subconsciously felt that his mom was the best.’
After hanging up, he left the bathroom.
"This kid, still hangs up so fast," Shawn Ford muttered, shaking his head. The thought of his father’s illness had killed his mood for games. After a moment, he decided to get up and head to the hospital.
Actually, it wasn’t just the cerebral infarction; that was just the most serious issue.
There were many other symptoms that came with old age.
It was precisely because of his age that they didn’t dare use many treatment methods. They worried he wouldn’t recover well, and were even more terrified that the old man wouldn’t make it off the operating table.
At this thought, his heart sank.
