His Identical Sons Led Him Back to Her
Chapter 198: Academic Exchange
Upon learning about the situation, the old headmaster immediately called. He only relaxed after confirming she was okay. They had been incredibly anxious seeing the news online but didn’t dare ask her about it, afraid of reopening a painful wound. Now, their biggest fear was that the matter would escalate.
But that ’child’ was always sensible. Since she had agreed to it, she must be confident there would be no mistakes.
That put their minds at ease.
When Mr. Lynch heard, he immediately came over as well. Without asking many questions, he said directly, "Master, I’ll be your assistant."
"Okay." Amanda Vance didn’t hesitate. She assigned the preparatory work to him, took the patient’s pulse again, and wrote a prescription for someone to go and decoct. By this point, a flood of people had already poured into the livestream. Howard King’s colleague was simply a cameraman, keeping the lens on Amanda and her team and paying no mind to the chat, which had completely blown up.
Some were there just for the spectacle, some were there to start fights, and others were there just to curse out Amanda Vance.
Before long, however, these trolls all went silent. The reason was simple: aside from Amanda Vance, Mr. Lynch, the patient, and the cameraman, several other doctors had entered the room.
And they were all titans of the medical field.
Several doctors from Central Hospital’s neurology department, the cardiology department, the oncology department... Wait, why was even someone from orthopedics here?!
The orthopedic surgeon had an honest, good-natured face. He leaned curiously toward the phone, as if studying some new curiosity. Seeing the comments in the chat, he rubbed his balding crown and chuckled. "It’s rare to see Dr. Vance perform acupuncture. Of course I have to watch. Who knows, I might learn a trick or two that I can use someday."
He said it with a completely serious expression, and he wasn’t just talking nonsense. The orthopedics department actually had a close relationship with traditional Chinese medicine. Once, a patient had a large wound that wouldn’t stop bleeding. Mr. Lynch happened to be passing by and stopped the bleeding with just a few needles. And, astoundingly, he had claimed that Amanda Vance taught him how.
From that day on, he had been exceptionally curious about this Dr. Vance. Now that he finally had the chance, of course he was going to watch.
Following that, doctors from two nearby hospitals also arrived, all of them top-tier experts. Many people watching the stream already recognized some of them, all doctors with excellent reputations.
’They’re all here to watch Amanda Vance?’
’No way, is this Amanda Vance’s medical skill really that incredible?’
It wasn’t just in the room; the livestream chat was also suddenly flooded by a new group of people, all using their real names instead of creating screen names. The online spectators wanted to laugh, but they found they couldn’t.
As more and more familiar names appeared, their eyes began to twitch with increasing frequency.
’If I’m not mistaken, isn’t that the president of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Association? And that person is the luminary who just won a medical award last month.’
’Are they also here to watch Amanda Vance?’
That was correct. Because of the recent online incident involving Amanda Vance, other hospitals had taken notice. Those acquainted with the director of Central Hospital had called to ask what was going on. The director simply sent over a few patient case files, which instantly silenced them. From that, they knew Amanda Vance had true ability.
Setting aside public opinion, she had made a name for herself within medical circles. At the very least, a portion of them knew she possessed genuine skill.
If nothing else, the mere fact that Mr. Lynch, a master of national renown, had taken her as his teacher was enough to prove she was not just capable, but exceptionally skilled.
Therefore, those who couldn’t rush back in time today heard they could watch via livestream and had younger family members help them register accounts to join.
What was originally a livestream for entertainment had suddenly turned into an academic conference. The atmosphere grew much more serious, and the other viewers didn’t dare say much anymore. For once, the chat feed fell quiet.
Amanda Vance glanced at the people around her. Seeing that they were all wearing sterile gowns, had disinfected themselves before entering, and weren’t crowding the patient’s bed, she didn’t say anything.
Mr. Lynch had also finished sterilizing the Golden Needles and handed them to her.
As Amanda Vance administered the needles, she explained the procedure to Mr. Lynch.
In truth, Howard King’s condition wasn’t particularly severe; it didn’t require the use of the Nine Revolutions Needle. Even Mr. Lynch could have treated it perfectly well. However, Amanda’s application of the needles was more concise, used fewer acupoints, and was several times more effective than conventional methods. That was why Mr. Lynch was hoping to learn something more this time.
After listening to Amanda’s explanation, he nodded in understanding.
Throughout the process, he kept his fingers on the patient’s wrist, feeling the changes in his pulse, which deepened his understanding of the technique.
Amanda Vance left the last few needles for Mr. Lynch to administer. "Do you know where to place them?" she asked.
Mr. Lynch listed several acupoints, the required depth for each needle, and the method of insertion. Amanda nodded, made one adjustment to his plan, and then let him proceed.
"There. The pulse might continue to change. You can keep monitoring it," she said.
"Yes, yes." After the needles were set, Mr. Lynch went back to monitoring Howard King’s pulse and didn’t let go. Someone observant behind him handed him a chair so he could sit down.
Mr. Lynch didn’t refuse. He exercised regularly and was in good physical shape, but it was still awkward to take a pulse while bent over, so he sat down.
Someone handed a chair to Amanda Vance as well.
There was a waiting period before the needles could be removed. As Amanda sat to one side, someone immediately walked over and asked her a question.
Amanda answered without needing to think, and then, as if this had opened the floodgates, the other doctors began to approach with their own questions.
These were all highly skilled doctors with extensive clinical experience, so naturally, they wouldn’t bother her with trivial questions. Some of their inquiries involved famously difficult and complicated cases, yet Amanda Vance handled them all with ease.
Many of them practiced Western medicine. Although Amanda’s specialty was traditional Chinese medicine, she was also knowledgeable about Western practices. By integrating the two, she often produced astonishingly effective solutions, providing everyone with new avenues of thought.
The spectators watching online couldn’t understand a word of the technical discussion, but seeing the expressions on the other doctors’ faces, they knew that what Amanda was saying was correct. Instantly, the way they looked at her changed.
’This woman... she seems even more incredible than we imagined.’
While most of the casual viewers were just there for the show, those in the medical field couldn’t sit still. Listening to Amanda’s analysis of these conditions, they immediately wanted to ask about the difficult cases they were dealing with. Unfortunately, she couldn’t see the questions they were posting in the chat, so she couldn’t answer.
The more impatient ones immediately grabbed their phones and rushed out the door, heading for Central Hospital.
And they were not the only ones.
Amanda Vance was oblivious to all this. She continued to answer questions while keeping an eye on Howard King’s condition. She had an internal clock; she didn’t need a timer. She could tell just by looking at him when it was time to remove the needles.
"When he wakes up, you can take him for another CT scan to observe the results," she said to Howard King’s attending physician.
Dr. Cannon’s eyes lit up. "Dr. Vance," he asked excitedly, "are you saying we’ll see a tangible effect after just one treatment?"
"Yes, you’ll be able to see some improvement. It should put your minds at ease. To shrink the tumor to a size where you can perform minimally invasive surgery will take about half a month."
Half a month might sound long, but this was shrinking a fist-sized tumor to the point where it was operable with minimally invasive surgery. That was already an astonishing feat.
The surrounding doctors were utterly amazed to hear this. One of them immediately pulled the hospital director aside, insisting he wanted to come to their hospital for an academic exchange—which was just a roundabout way of saying he didn’t want to leave.
The corner of the director’s mouth twitched. He glanced at Amanda Vance, his smile growing even wider. "Excellent. I’ll arrange accommodations for everyone."
