His Identical Sons Led Him Back to Her
Chapter 162: You’re Your Own Biological Child? That’s Really Great
With Mr. Ford discharged from the hospital, Amanda Vance no longer needed to do his rounds. She went straight to her office, took a sip of water, and began her busy day.
During a break, she suddenly realized she hadn’t seen Samuel Ford in a few days. ’He’s probably forgotten about me by now.’
Amanda Vance just smiled, not saying a word, but her heart felt a little wistful. ’Sure enough, feelings like these fade so easily.’
「At the hospital entrance.」
Rocco hid behind a pillar and quietly made a call. "Sir, Dr. Vance has arrived at the hospital. She’s doing fine."
"Mm," Samuel Ford said, flipping through the documents on his desk. "Keep a close watch. Besides those people from the Vance family, see if anyone else is tailing Dr. Vance."
’Huh? Aren’t we the ones tailing Dr. Vance?’
Rocco froze for a moment, then quickly realized Samuel obviously didn’t mean them. ’Does that mean someone else is watching Dr. Vance?’
At that thought, Rocco’s expression immediately grew serious. "Understood. We’ll be on alert. We absolutely will not let any harm come to Dr. Vance."
"Mm." Samuel Ford trusted their competence, so he said nothing more and hung up the phone.
He had wanted to go see her, but since their previous proposal had won the bid, the Ford Group had begun its implementation. There was a mountain of work to handle, and he had been so busy these past two days that he’d been sleeping at the office, with no time to leave at all.
The thought of her made Samuel Ford’s hands move even faster, hoping to finish all this work sooner.
Amanda Vance knew nothing of this. She was in the middle of taking a patient’s pulse when she suddenly heard someone outside shouting her name. Her fingertips paused, and a cold glint flashed in her eyes. Moments later, Mr. Lynch walked over, his voice laced with worry. "Dr. Vance, outside..."
Amanda Vance raised a hand to cut him off. "I know."
She didn’t need him to tell her; she could already tell who was shouting outside.
Holly Vance.
And the things he was screaming were utterly vile.
Her eyes darkened. Amanda Vance took a deep breath and wrote out the prescription for her patient. Before the next one could come in, the hospital director, having heard the commotion, hurried over. He frowned. "Amanda, you should go out and see what’s going on."
After all, with so many people coming and going in the hospital, letting them continue to scream outside was unacceptable.
Amanda paused for a moment, then nodded. She asked Mr. Lynch to see her patients for a while and walked out.
At that moment, at the hospital entrance, Holly Vance was spewing every curse imaginable, as if the person he was reviling wasn’t his daughter, but a mortal enemy.
Even the director was starting to find it unbearable. But when he turned to look at Amanda, her expression was completely unmoved. He suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for her, wondering how she had endured this all these years.
Rocco was furious as well. He moved to restrain the man, but Holly Vance only yelled louder. "Unfilial daughter! Everyone, come and see! This is the fine daughter I raised! She ate my food and lived under my roof, and after I raised her, she actually hired people to beat me! Is there any justice in this world?"
As he spoke, he began to wail, completely abandoning any sense of decorum. Sarah Sullivan was even more unrestrained. She threw herself onto the ground, looking every bit the part of a shrew, and started screaming hysterically.
"She’s a damn viper! We raised her for nothing! In the end, she won’t even acknowledge her own parents."
"And if she didn’t acknowledge us, fine! But she even hired people to beat us! Oh, what a miserable life we lead! It was all a waste raising her! If we’d fed that food to a dog, at least it would guard our door!"
"She’s been mixing with shady characters since she was a kid! Got pregnant at twenty and doesn’t even know who the man is! And who knows where she found all these men in black this time. She got into Central Hospital without a college degree! How impressive! We’re clearly not good enough for her anymore."
"..."
What? Such a messy private life, and she doesn’t even have a college degree?
Not everyone uses X, and Amanda Vance wasn’t a celebrity, so not everyone recognized her. The previous incidents had only caused a major stir at her high school and Auden University. Now, hearing this, the patients at the hospital erupted.
In today’s society, credentials are everything. It doesn’t matter if you’re capable or not; if you don’t have the certificate, you’re considered incompetent.
And to not even have a graduation certificate? That was an even bigger deal.
Immediately, the way they looked at Amanda changed.
"What nonsense are you spouting!" Rocco was livid and moved to cover their mouths. Seeing this, Holly Vance tossed a loudspeaker to the ground. He had already pre-recorded a message on it, and it began to play automatically, saving him the effort of shouting.
The sound was so loud that even people from the inpatient wards poked their heads out of their windows to watch the spectacle.
Amanda’s eyes went dark. She strode forward and stomped on the loudspeaker. With a heavy crunch, it shattered into pieces, and the recording stopped.
Feeling the stares of the crowd, Amanda took a deep breath and pulled Rocco back.
"Dr. Vance?" Rocco looked at her in surprise.
"I’ll handle this."
Rocco hesitated, but seeing her determined expression, he let go.
His mouth now free, Holly Vance immediately pointed a finger in Amanda’s face and screamed, "Amanda! Is this how you treat your own father? Will you only be satisfied when you’ve beaten me to death?"
"And you?" Amanda let out a low laugh, her gaze fixed on him. "Will you only be satisfied when you’ve driven me to my death?"
"I was ostracized in high school because of your precious daughter, Shirley Vance."
"You say I’m not close to my sister? Then why don’t you mention that Shirley is only one month younger than me?"
"I got pregnant at twenty because you sold me for money."
Amanda stared at him. "You say I’m pushing you? Who is really pushing whom here?"
Her voice was not quiet as she bluntly ripped open her own scars for all to see, causing the surrounding crowd to fall silent for a moment.
’Just moments ago, they had been accusing Amanda of being unfilial. Now, hearing her words, they fell silent. For a child to be expected to be filial, the parents must first fulfill their own parental duties.’
’Cheating on his wife during her pregnancy, selling his own daughter—either one of those things made him unworthy of being a parent.’
’If it were them, they probably wouldn’t have been able to endure it. Her not seeing them is one thing; staying out of each other’s lives should be considered the greatest mercy. What more could they possibly want?’
Seeing the shift in the crowd’s gaze, Holly Vance reacted, shouting, "That’s because you’re not my daughter at all! Your mother cheated on me long ago!"
Amanda’s pupils constricted. She stared fixedly at Holly Vance.
He put on a look of grief and humiliation, as if he were airing his most shameful secret to the world. He pulled a document out of his bag. "This is a DNA test report. You are not my biological daughter."
No one could have expected this twist.
What? Not his biological daughter? ’Well, that’s a different story then.’
’So what if he treated her badly? What man could stand his wife cheating on him? The fact that he gave her food and a roof over her head, raising her to adulthood, was already more than generous.’
Sensing the change in their gazes, Holly Vance gloated inwardly. ’Reputation means nothing. Money is what’s most important.’
’After today, Amanda Vance’s reputation will be in tatters, and my company will expand several times over.’
’Who cares about being a cuckold? Once my wallet is fat enough, no one will look down on me. They’ll just say my ex-wife had no taste, fooling around with other men. She’ll deserve to die a horrible death.’
Seeing the greed in the man’s eyes, Amanda suddenly smiled. "Well, isn’t that just wonderful."
