His Discarded Luna, the Rival's Obsession
Chapter 245 No One Left to Call
Chapter 245: Chapter 245 No One Left to Call
Serena’s heart sank.
She reached for Alpha Sebastian’s hand and lowered her voice into the soft, pleading tone that had always worked on him.
"Sebastian, please. Can’t you talk to Eira? Ask her to drop the lawsuit?"
Alpha Sebastian looked down at her. Her mascara had smudged beneath her eyes, and tears streaked her cheeks. She looked nothing like the polished, ambitious woman he had once believed she was.
The change unsettled him.
Serena noticed the distance in his eyes. He was looking at her as if she were a stranger who had wandered into his hospital room.
A sharp pain twisted through her chest, but she forced a brittle smile.
"Do I have something on my face?"
"No." He looked away. "It’s nothing. I can’t reach Eira, and I can’t make her drop the case."
"Then what am I supposed to do?"
"Deal with it."
His jaw tightened.
Serena studied him.
Something about Alpha Sebastian had changed. He no longer looked guilty or angry. He looked empty, as if one blow too many had finally drained him of every reaction.
But Serena had no time to worry about him.
If Alpha Sebastian could not reach Eira, she would find someone who could.
Professor Davies.
"I need some air," she muttered.
Before Alpha Sebastian could respond, she slipped out of the room and walked to the far end of the corridor. After checking that no one was nearby, she called Professor Davies.
He answered on the third attempt.
"Professor Davies," Serena said, adding warmth to her voice. "I was hoping you could arrange a meeting between Eira and me."
There was a pause.
"Eira is traveling."
"I mean when she gets back, of course." Serena smiled as if he could see her. "I would really appreciate your help. My grandfather still has considerable influence at the Silix Institute. I could put in a good word for you. Surely you could do me this small favor."
His tone turned cold.
"Serena, stop."
Her smile disappeared.
"If you keep trying to manipulate people, you will drag Dr. Victor into this mess with you. I am not taking you anywhere near Eira. Let this go."
"Professor Davies..."
"Your grandfather should have taught you better."
The line went dead.
Serena stared at the phone. Even her grandfather’s name had lost its power.
She was still searching for another name to use when she saw her parents coming down the hallway.
Robert looked grim. A sealed envelope hung from his hand.
Serena’s stomach tightened.
The demand letter had gone to her grandfather. Now the court papers had reached her parents.
"Dad. Mom."
Robert held out the envelope.
Serena had no strength left to pretend. "Open it."
They all knew what it was. Unlike a threatening letter, a court notice did not need dramatic language. It simply stated what would happen next.
Robert tore open the envelope.
Serena immediately looked at the date.
Her eyes widened.
"The hearing is in four days."
Jennifer stepped closer. "What kind of hearing?"
Serena scanned the page again. "It says eight-thirty in the morning. An emergency hearing on Eira’s request to preserve assets and prevent them from being transferred."
Robert’s expression changed.
This was not the trial. The judge would not decide the entire one-hundred-eighteen-million-dollar claim in four days. But if Eira won the emergency motion, Serena could face restrictions on her accounts and property while the lawsuit continued.
"How did this happen so fast?" Serena whispered.
Robert looked at the filing date. "Because this is an emergency motion. The court can schedule a short hearing quickly if the plaintiff claims there is a risk that assets will be hidden or moved."
Serena’s fingers began to shake.
They had expected weeks to find a lawyer, sell property, and negotiate.
Now they had four days to respond.
The nightmare had not become impossible.
It had become immediate.
"Dad, Mom, I need a lawyer," Serena said, her voice trembling. "The best one we can get. Someone who handles high-stakes civil litigation and major financial disputes."
"Your father and I will start calling firms now," Jennifer said.
Then a thought struck Serena.
"Wait. There may be a way to fight this."
"Sebastian and I signed an investment agreement. It said I wasn’t personally responsible for repaying the money if the project failed. The car and the condo were loans from him, but we agreed on how those payments would be described. And the jewelry was given to me as personal gifts. Those were gifts, not company assets."
A small spark of hope appeared in Jennifer’s eyes.
"Why didn’t you tell us this earlier?"
"I forgot." Serena’s breathing eased, though her hands were still cold. "There’s been too much happening. I didn’t realize those documents might matter."
Robert shook his head.
"They might help us challenge some of Eira’s claims, but don’t assume they solve everything. Her attorney may argue that the agreements were false, that the gifts were disguised transfers, or that the money was obtained through fraud."
Serena’s brief relief faded.
"Then we need someone who can explain all of it to the judge."
"Exactly," Robert said. "And we have four days."
The three of them agreed to begin the search immediately.
Serena placed the court papers back in the envelope.
"You two should go home," she said. "Sebastian is staying until my remaining test results come back tomorrow. I want the doctor to explain everything before I leave."
Jennifer’s expression softened with concern.
"Were today’s results normal?"
Serena nodded quickly. "The ultrasound was fine. The doctor said there was no immediate emergency."
Robert glanced at the medical chart near the bed.
"What are they waiting for tomorrow?"
"The prenatal infection screening," Serena replied smoothly. "The HIV, hepatitis, and syphilis tests were sent to an outside lab. The rest of the results are already in."
Jennifer still looked worried.
"You’ve been having stomach pain for days."
"It’s stress." Serena forced a smile. "I’m fine, Mom. The baby will be fine too."
Jennifer did not look convinced.
"If you want me to feel better, go find us a lawyer," Serena said. "We’re running out of time."
After a moment, Jennifer nodded.
"Call us as soon as the results come in. I want to know exactly what the doctor says."
"I will."
Robert picked up his coat. Before leaving, he looked at Serena for a long moment.
"Do not move any money or sign anything without showing it to the attorney first."
Serena nodded, but her eyes shifted toward the sealed envelope.
