Chapter 2174: Chapter 630: One Year Later (7) The Little One Has a Fever 3

Feng Fanghua saw that the old man had calmed down and stopped talking; naturally she didn’t dare say any more. If something really happened to the old man, the Mu Family would probably fall into chaos.

Just past five in the afternoon, Mu Yichen came home. It was already drizzling by then, the cold making people not want to move.

After Mu Yichen got home and saw how desolate the living room looked, his dark eyes shifted slightly and he asked softly, "Where’s Grandpa?"

"In his room!"

Feng Fanghua was sitting on the sofa; she’d already been sitting there alone for a long time. She kept feeling like she’d been played. Now that her son had come back, the first thing he asked about was the old man. She lifted her eyes to look at her son. "Did you and your grandfather plan this together?"

"What are you talking about? Is Grandpa not feeling well? I’ll go check on him!"

"You stop right there!"

Seeing him about to leave, Feng Fanghua immediately called out to stop him.

Only then did Mu Yichen turn back to look at her and realize that she was in a very foul mood. But that didn’t surprise him; after seeing Qin Mu, it would be strange if she were in a good mood.

"Yichen, are you back?"

Unexpectedly, the old man’s voice came from inside, sounding weak and listless.

"I’d better go check on him. I’ll talk to you later."

Mu Yichen still turned around and walked off. Watching him head toward the old man’s room, Feng Fanghua grew even more anxious and upset.

When Mu Yichen reached the old man’s room, he saw Qin Mu sitting beside the bed with her head lowered.

Her back was to the door, so she didn’t see him, though of course she knew he’d come in.

Qin Mu sniffed, then turned her head slightly to the side, really unwilling to face him.

"What happened?"

Mu Yichen asked in a cool, indifferent tone.

"I wasn’t feeling too well and ended up scaring Xiaomu. It’s just as well you’re back—help me coax her properly."

The old man looked at his grandson and kept giving him meaningful looks.

Mu Yichen lowered his eyes to look at her. "It’s not like you don’t know how Grandpa’s health is. How did you get so scared?"

Qin Mu still refused to speak to him. She just stood up. "Grandpa, the weather’s not good. If I don’t leave now, I probably won’t make my flight."

"You’re really leaving?"

The old man held his chest and asked in a muffled voice.

"I’ll come back to see you again!"

Qin Mu smiled and stepped forward to give the old man a gentle hug. "You must take good care of your health."

After speaking, Qin Mu turned and walked out, not sparing the man standing behind her even a glance, as if that person had never been in her field of vision, never existed in her memory, just a stranger far, far away.

"Yichen, since Xiaomu’s leaving and it’s raining, go see her off."

The old man had shot his grandson several looks and gotten no response, so he could only play the kindly elder and remind him out loud.

Mu Yichen’s wickedly handsome eyes glanced at Qin Mu, then he said blandly, "She probably doesn’t need me to."

At that moment, Huanhuan suddenly ran downstairs. "Something’s wrong, something’s wrong, little brother has a fever!"

Hearing that just after she stepped out, Qin Mu went to the stairway, and Huanhuan ran right into her.

"Why are you in such a rush?"

Qin Mu frowned and asked.

"Little brother has a fever!"

Huanhuan held up a thermometer, which showed forty-one degrees.

Qin Mu froze when she saw it. The couple sitting on the sofa also hurried over. Feng Fanghua snatched the thermometer from Qin Mu’s hand, glanced at it, then rushed upstairs.

"Mom, aren’t you going upstairs to check on little brother?"

Watching Feng Fanghua already run up, Huanhuan looked anxiously at Qin Mu.

"Xiaomu, go up. Chengcheng’s been in a bad mood lately too. Go take a look at him; maybe he’ll feel better if he sees you."

Mu Zihao said to her in a low voice.

Qin Mu lifted her eyes slightly but didn’t know what to say.

"Mom!"

Huanhuan shook her arm.

"Don’t take what your mom said to heart. That’s just how she is—sharp tongue, soft heart. Go on up."

Mu Zihao spoke to her again.

Qin Mu nodded and took Huanhuan’s hand, heading upstairs.

"Oh my, my little darling, why is your face this red?"

As soon as Feng Fanghua entered Chengcheng’s room, she saw the little guy curled up on the bed, hugging himself tightly, trembling all over, his face flushed bright red.

"Grandma, am I going to die?"

Chengcheng hugged himself and let his grandma hold him as well, asking in a weak and nervous voice.

"What nonsense are you talking? How could you die when you’re just fine? It’s only a fever."

Qin Mu and Huanhuan walked in. Huanhuan let go of Qin Mu and ran to Chengcheng’s bed, rubbing his little face hard. "Mom’s here, don’t be scared!"

"Mom!"

Chengcheng lifted his eyes to look at the person who came up to the bed. Qin Mu didn’t speak; she just gently placed her hand on his forehead.

"He was fine just now. How did he suddenly get a fever?"

Qin Mu muttered, then looked at Feng Fanghua. "Mom, should we call the doctor over to take a look?"

"Why aren’t you calling already?"

Feng Fanghua snapped back impatiently.

Helpless, Qin Mu glanced at Chengcheng again. Seeing how badly he was trembling, she immediately took out her phone from her pocket and called the doctor.

"Grandma, I want Mom to hold me."

After Qin Mu finished the call, Chengcheng weakly made this request to Feng Fanghua.

Feng Fanghua looked at him, clearly reluctant, but since Chengcheng was burning with fever, she could only grudgingly hand him over to Qin Mu.

"Watch him properly."

"Mm."

Qin Mu nodded. Feng Fanghua sat down nearby. Huanhuan sat beside Qin Mu and Chengcheng, rubbing his face from time to time while muttering, "How did you suddenly get a fever? Did some kind of demon or monster scare you?"

"How would I know? Are you trying to rub me to death, Sis?"

Chengcheng was about to grind his teeth. His big sister’s methods were really too much, and he was going to be tortured to death. What would he do when the doctor came later?

"How could I bear to rub you to death? I just see that you’re miserable. Grandpa often helps Grandma rub her forehead like this."

As Huanhuan spoke, she kept going.

Qin Mu had no choice but to move Huanhuan’s hand away. "How is that possible? Stop rubbing him randomly."

Seeing the serious look in her mother’s eyes, Huanhuan finally stopped, but she remained very anxious inside. What should she do? If someone found out...

Noticing Huanhuan’s sudden silence and how much her grandson wanted Qin Mu to stay with him, Feng Fanghua grew even more displeased. Her fast tongue got the better of her and the words shot right out. "A woman who hasn’t shown up at home for an entire year—what right does she have to be so harsh to my granddaughter?"
