Chapter 3021: Chapter 34: Edge Academy Work
The offices in the office building generally have the same layout and size.
Bookshelves, wardrobes, desks, plus coffee tables and two large armchairs. If someone is not satisfied with these standard configurations, they can add green plants, vases, wine cabinets, sculptures, laboratory benches, or even use space magic to expand the office structure, turning it into a small garden, and more.
Zheng Qing doesn’t have that much on his mind for now.
Probably because he’s used to the look of Old Yao’s office, he finds the standard configuration quite fine — another reason for not making changes is that, after sitting in the office for the morning, he gradually discovered that the work of the Dean of Edge Academy is not as busy as he imagined, but rather, quite leisurely, and doesn’t require office layout adjustments to improve work efficiency.
This also relates to the responsibility distribution of the First University.
Although the First University encompasses five colleges, all professors are under the jurisdiction of the Professor Joint Meeting, and all other staff are under the School Works Committee. The vast majority of laboratories belong to four research institutes,
leaving fewer responsibilities for the college management system.
"—Dean Yao is busy because, aside from being the Dean of Jiuyou Academy, he also serves as the Dean of the Magic Philosophy Academy and is a professor of several disciplines, including Philosophy of Magic. Simply grading assignments and papers every day takes a lot of time."
Korma sat across Zheng Qing’s bare desk, casually explaining the difference between him and Old Yao, finally reminding, "Moreover, according to regulations, work related to certain departments is not allowed in the office. So, where you might find yourself busier than Professor Yao is in running between both places occasionally."
"So what do we usually do?"
Zheng Qing flipped through the thin ’Overall Advancement Plan for the Dual-training Program’, which is probably the only serious business he needed to handle this morning.
"Mainly three parts."
The Deputy Dean of Edge Academy raised three fingers: "The work of the college office, teaching work, and student work. The first content is relatively complex, including internal tasks like college stamps, finances, attendance, archives, and also external liaison affairs involving Edge Academy and the other four colleges of the First University, other magic universities outside the First University, even the Alliance, Danghag, Zeus Cup, etc.; also including special matters like the dual-training program you have in hand.
The second, teaching work, mostly involves student grade statistics, after-school tutoring, student and teacher nominations, and coordinating and implementing teaching plans. These all require cooperation with the Professor Joint Meeting and the School Works Committee.
The third part involves students, mainly reward assessment, punishment management, student organization management, academy hunting team management, hunt competition organization, etc., well, the inter-departmental exchanges and outstanding student training involved in the dual-training program, also fall under this category."
Dual-training program.
Zheng Qing murmured this term, turning again to the first page of the plan.
The so-called ’dual-training’ is dual cultivation, based on many students in Edge Academy not meeting the original admission qualifications of the First University, so in order to improve their professional level, auxiliary teaching parts are arranged outside the official teaching plan.
For example, the ’1+4+1’ training mode for The Gypsy Witch Coven, where Gypsy witches who receive acceptance notifications from Edge Academy undergo specialized training at the Gypsy Witch Tower in the first year to enhance their basic magic literacy; study at Edge Academy from the second to fifth year; then return to The Gypsy Witch Coven for practice in the sixth year.
Then, for the Huizong Tribe’s ’3+2’ mode, Huizong Tribe foals admitted to Edge Academy study there for the first three years, then transfer to one of the other four colleges of the First University for exchange learning in the last two years.
Such arrangements are very beneficial for students of Edge Academy. Zheng Qing hesitated for a moment, turned to the last page of the plan, and signed his name.
"—Is there anything else?" He looked up at his Deputy Dean.
Korma put away the plan, pulled a face, and said sourly, "Of course there is... I’m the Deputy Dean of the academy, not your secretary. Today’s your first day of work, lending you a hand for now. Assistive work like this, later you should hand over to the people in the college office."
"Oh, right, the office manager." Zheng Qing said, sighing heavily upon hearing it.
"Is there a problem?" The North District Grand-Wizard sharply sensed the frown on the face of her academy dean.
This person before him isn’t exactly an outsider, Zheng Qing hesitated for a few seconds, pulled out a few application forms from the drawer, handed them to her, and said with a bitter face: "—I’m a bit unsure whom to hire as the office director of Edge Academy now."
"If unsure, have the school directly assign someone... Whoa!"
Korma blinked, flipping through the few application forms in front of her, her expression turning wonderfully colorful: "—You, indeed, have a tough choice here."
Though Edge Academy doesn’t need to handle teaching and other school affairs, daily services are still there, so there are quite a few positions under academy management—these include regular institutions like Deputy Dean, academy laboratories, as well as non-regular institutions like advisor, liaison officer of assistant teacher groups, and management of minority group preparatory classes—and the department managing communication of these institutions, is the college office.
Before Zheng Qing joined, most positions within the academy had already been confirmed provisionally by the school, solely the office director’s position has been handled by Korma because its main work involves the dean, until the new dean’s appointment was confirmed, the school released the relevant recruitment announcement.
Afterwards, nearly a hundred qualified application materials were quickly received.
There is only one office director.
Choosing one out of a hundred is typically not a difficult matter.
But Zheng Qing felt slightly unsure when he saw the first resume.
Because that resume belonged to a member of the Moon Council, the owner of Greenhill Mansion, Su Shijun — her ID photo without glasses hung brightly on top of the resume, seeming to be slightly larger than others, making Zheng Qing involuntarily glance a few more times.
Noticing the boy taking a few extra glances, the witch in the photo didn’t get angry, instead winked at him, smiled and played with her hair, revealing two furry ears.
Hiss!
This fairy!
Zheng Qing was so startled he quickly closed this resume, swiftly flipping to the next, soon seeing another familiar name, Jiang Yu.
Really wasn’t surprising at all.
The office director position doesn’t require very high magic skills, so registered wizards meet the screening criteria. Like Professor An from Jiuyou Academy, who’s held the office director’s spot for many years, remains an ordinary registered wizard.
Hence, it’s not surprising Jiang Yu made it through the school’s preliminary screening.
