Chapter 2998 - 11: About Rumors
Chapter 2998: Chapter 11: About Rumors
Janet sat back behind that thick glass window.
The narrow and enclosed corridor before her seemed like her life, filled from top to bottom with a gloomy atmosphere. It formed a sharp contrast with the grand and magnificent Solomon Hall she had just visited.
At this time, there were no guests visiting Danghag.
Thus, the comfy soft chair in front of the glass window became a resting spot for her niece Jacqueline, who curled up on the chair, playing joyfully with a small black cat the size of a fist she held in her arms. However, the cat seemed somewhat aloof, constantly ignoring the little witch’s teasing, lying properly and lacking the typical trampling habits of small cats.
Of course, it could be because the little witch wasn’t fully developed and had no trampling value.
Janet stared at the little black cat through the glass window, always feeling it was peculiar.
"——Was this cat brought in by that young man just now?"
A voice as thin as a mosquito’s buzz suddenly sounded in the fat witch’s ear. Janet turned around in amazement, looking at the shriveled and small elder wizard who appeared behind her at an unknown time, instinctively wanting to jump up from her chair.
But the elder held her down with his gaze.
"...Yes, yes, Jacqueline said it’s the warlock holding the flower cat... you entrusted her to care for it." The little clerk suddenly had to face the head of the Dan Hag Foreign Affairs Bureau, inevitably feeling nervous and stammering: "I will personally take care of it... take it to the resting room! Does it need to be fed cat food?"
Meier paused for a second.
"No, let this child take care of it. Its owner will be out soon." As an elder indeed, Meier understood the fragility of the world’s operations, knowing that oftentimes, gaining something by doing nothing far outweighs certain self-conceived clever decisions: "Do nothing... unless there’s a definite request from that gentleman."
Seeing the head’s gentle demeanor.
The clerk lady became a bit more at ease.
"Who is that young... gentleman?" She asked, only then realizing the head’s phrasing, and awkwardly changing her address.
The elder wizard stared at the black cat, silent for a moment.
"The dean of Edge Academy, the new giant of First University."
The Dan Hag Foreign Affairs Bureau’s head’s tone carried a hint of emotion, evidently, this answer also bothered him somewhat, giving rise to a sharing impulse — and the young subordinate sitting behind the glass window became his safest confidant.
This answer stunned the clerk lady greatly.
"First University? On Buji Island’s First University?" Her expression carried a hint of disbelief.
"If the Alliance doesn’t have a second First University." Head Meyer rarely cracked a small joke, then gathered the last trace of smile: "——Yes, correct, it’s the university from which you graduated."
Janet swallowed a small mouthful of saliva.
Although the work at Dan Hag Reception was dull and monotonous, information came in abundantly. The guests coming and going always brought her the freshest rumors from the wizard world, so the clerk lady immediately recalled a certain gossip concerning the wizard world’s most beautiful woman: "——But I heard the new dean of Edge Academy is the husband of Su Councilor from the Moon Council!"
The head of the Foreign Affairs Bureau’s lips twitched lightly, nodded imperceptibly.
Neither confirmed nor denied.
The fat witch thought of the ordinary face she had just seen, suddenly feeling respect. A warlock who looked and appeared to have very ordinary strength, capable of making the Alliance’s most beautiful witch bear him a child, surely had other merits.
"——So, he really is the dean’s illegitimate child?"
She took in a long breath. Thinking of having come into close contact with the greatest legendary bloodline of the wizard world, the clerk lady felt a bit breathless, the mixed emotions of excitement and prying made her feel like a balloon filled with air, almost dizzy, floating onto the clouds.
The kind and approachable head regretted his friendliness a bit.
"Don’t spread such rumors within the bureau!" His expression and tone suddenly became stern, watching the terrified clerk lady, his heart couldn’t summon any sympathy: "——Remember what I just said, if he doesn’t instruct, do nothing!... And no gossip!"
With that, Head Meier’s figure disappeared silently into thin air like a faint mist.
Janet sank heavily back into her soft chair.
Swallowed another mouthful of saliva.
But her mouth was dry, nothing was swallowed.
Outside the thick glass window, her little niece remained unaware of the brief but emotional dialogue that took place a foot away, but the black cat in her arms gave her a significant look.
Startled, Janet sat up straight hastily.
The Ancient Gublai Fairy Fire at the end of the corridor flickered gently, causing the shadows of the tall cabinets on either side to sway slightly. Holding the Yellow Flowered Cat, the young warlock emerged from the shadows, slowly approaching behind Jacqueline under the clerk lady’s stiff gaze.
The small black cat the size of a fist agilely leaped onto the soft chair’s high back, then jumped onto the warlock’s shoulder, turned around, and burrowed into his large hood.
Almost simultaneously, the little witch nestled in the soft chair smelled that very pleasant scent again, swiftly jumped off the chair, and looked at the warlock with a red face.
"Good, good afternoon!"
She recalled those strange words that flashed through her mind earlier, greeting somewhat stutteringly.
"Good afternoon."
The young wizard smiled slightly, handed her a gold bean: "——This is your reward for looking after the black cat. Anything extra, consider it your hard-earned fee."
"Oh, your cat."
Jacqueline nodded reluctantly, as she was allergic to cat fur, she rarely came into contact with these furry creatures in normal times, but today she unknowingly played with it for a long time.
Perhaps it was simply because it carried that very pleasant scent.
Seeing the young wizard turn to leave, she couldn’t help but ask: "——Where are you going?"
Hearing her niece’s "gabber gabber", Janet wished she could jump out from behind that thick glass window, seal her mouth, letting this newly emerged big shot on Buji Island leave early.
The warlock turned, looking at the young witch with surprise.
"Buji Island." He responded gently.
"Are you going there to study? Which academy are you entering?" Jacqueline felt these two questions seemed to have exhausted all the courage she accumulated in her life.
"Edge Academy... I’m not going to study, but I will welcome the Alliance’s most outstanding children to this academy." So spoke the new dean of Edge Academy.
