Chapter 1236: The Entrapped

A night filled with strong winds and chilling air gave off a somber feeling as a dark and rustling settlement came into sight.

On the western end of the capital was a coastal shipyard, abandoned after a recent monster rift attack, which turned the area into a hot zone where civilians were barred from entering until the government declared it safe.

However, unlike the outer areas with gates and signboards showcasing these warning messages... the shipyard itself was actually active, just inconspicuously.

One docking warehouse in particular, still had its lights running on despite the issued warnings, as it was inhabited by people of suspicious background.

A 3-floored docking warehouse on the coastal shipyard still had the top floor’s lights on, and multiple armed men patrolled this vicinity.

And a few hundred meters away, next to the warehouse, was a tower that signaled the ships usually. But tonight, there was a man in a black long coat watching over it like a predator.

This man was none other than Morpheus, who was now 30 years old. More than 3 years had passed since his awakening, but tonight would be his first night facing multiple people at once.

"Sonar Resonance." said Morpheus and closed his eyes.

Soon, a rippling shockwave was emitted from his body as the sound waves created a mental map that revealed everything within a half-kilometer radius.

His C-rank ability, Sonar Resonance, gave him the location of every single target hiding behind the walls.

These were not some random gangsters but well-equipped mercenaries with proper training.

Even many hunters would fall victim to these organized professionals.

Yet they were holding a female captive inside.

Jump!

Soon, Morpheus jumped from the tower, but two bat-like wings quickly came out of his back, instantly flapping widely as he flew towards the large window of the 3rd floor of the docking warehouse.

[Silent Descent!] he activated a F-rank skill.

Morpheus entered the large window, his wings curled up and retracted into his back as he dropped from the ceiling beams without a sound.

No fall impact. No sound. No presence spike. Not a single soul had detected his arrival.

Morpheus used the beams of the ceiling to slowly and silently traverse the floor and landed behind a guard who patrolled an isolated area.

[Vital Break!]

He quickly used a precision strike that shut down the nervous system of the guard the moment his palm touched his back.

The guard collapsed before his body hit the floor.

Two enemies, who heard the noise and quickly strolled towards this place to investigate, but Morpheus was already moving.

And first, they saw the man lying on the floor and a dark shadow moving above him.

Shoot!

Bang!

The gunfire started, and both guards launched a flurry of bullets.

Bang!

Clang!

However, this was not a failure but part of the plan.

[Kinetic Shield!]

He summoned a hexagonally patterned, massive shield with a sky-blue aura.

The gunfire erupted, and Morpheus quickly used another skill.

[Ballistic Awareness!]

The trajectory prediction of every single bullet, as soon as it left the muzzle, flashed briefly in his vision.

While marching towards both the gunmen, Morpheus activated a C-rank skill.

[Shadow Grapple!]

A right arm turned into a black, tendril-like, elongated pincer that shot itself towards one of the gunmen and instantly stabbed into his stomach.

The guard lost his balance, and his bullets aimed at Morpheus’ shield changed their trajectory.

Morpheus was still moving forward using the shield, and ironically, as he yanked the guard forward and swung his body sideways, the bullets ricocheted, and instead of Morpheus, they hit the other gunman.

The bullets that were meant for Morpheus.

Meanwhile, Morpheus threw away the first guard, and before the second guard’s body hit the ground, Morpheus deactivated the shield and grabbed his assault rifle.

He quickly smashed the rifle against a crate on the side and quickly caved the wielder’s skull in with the broken stock.

"Arrgh!!" groaned the 2nd guard as Morpheus stabbed his stomach using the right arm, creating a massive hole.

In just 20 seconds, 3 guards were taken down.

"What’s happening?! Everyone on alert!!"

Two new arrivals aimed their guns at the surroundings, looking for an invader, as other enemies were also rushing towards this place.

But before they could locate Morpheus and shoot him, the latter had already merged with the shadows of the fallen guards, and as soon as both of the new arrivals passed beyond the corpses, he rose and materialized.

Appearing behind them, Morpheus turned his left arm into a curved blade akin to a sword.

Slash!

With a single slash, he cut off both of their necks.

Step!

Thud!

Sensing more people coming, Morpheus took out a disc-like artifact from his pockets and threw it on the wall on his right side.

The artifact quickly latched onto the wall, and Morpheus also disappeared from the spot.

"What the fuck is happening?" spoke a guard with a terrified countenance as he saw 5 bodies on the floor.

"Keep looking. We can’t let that fucker get more of us." said his companion.

Swoosh!

Shoot!

The artifact latched onto the wall and shot massive webs that not only covered both of them entirely but also shoved and stuck their bodies to the opposite walls.

They had lost their weapons, and before they could recover...

Shoot!

Out of nowhere, two pointy thorn-like projectiles shot and plunged themselves into their hearts. Neither of them even saw where these projectiles were coming from.

By now, a lot of them had targeted this zone, so Morpheus chose to move to a different area altogether since more reinforcements were on the way.

2 minutes later...

Morpheus found a single guard who had taken the high ground.

Creak!

But before Morpheus could target him, the beam creaked and revealed his location.

"I got you now, fucker! DIE!!!" shouted the guard and frantically started shooting Morpheus.

[Titanium Arms!]

The shield skill was on cooldown, so Morpheus turned both his arms entirely into titanium metal arms that deflected bullets.

[Stun Gaze!] he used another skill.

His eyes glowed yellow and launched a stun effect that temporarily blinded the gunman as if he was hit with the pepper spray.

Before he could recover, Morpheus grabbed his gun and shot the guard in the face.

He threw away the gun and disappeared again.

The atmosphere had turned tense as everyone had come to realize one thing.

That they were entrapped in a cage. And the hunter...

I was waiting for them to make a mistake.
