Chapter 1082: Chapter 785: Little Stone

He admitted frankly, "Well, this body, like Vine and the ’me’ you encountered last time, is an experimental subject executor created, a substitute pawn in my hand. When the situation changes, it’s always ready to self-destruct and sacrifice."

Shen Tang had already anticipated this. This guy seems so generous and natural, not a bit flustered by being exposed, certainly not using his real self.

She looked at the man’s refined and elegant face, hesitated a bit, and asked, "Then what does your real self look like?"

He laughed, "Want to know?"

"If you don’t want to say, I won’t ask." Shen Tang knew from his tone that asking would be in vain.

The little female looked visibly displeased, her delicate brows lightly furrowed, and a hint of disappointment flashed in her beautiful eyes as she blinked. Her tender, alluring lips pursed lightly, then unconsciously pouted slightly, making her look particularly adorable and charming.

Shu’s gaze fell on her face and lingered for a moment.

"Calm down. This isn’t my real body, but it makes no difference to you." He shook his head, seemingly with some helpless indulgence, "After you arrived on Eris Star, the two ’me’ you met had more of my consciousness and memories implanted within. You can consider it as having a conversation with ’me.’ After the task is completed, I’ll directly destroy them, so don’t worry about any information leaking out."

"Then what’s your name?" Shen Tang asked again.

"You can call me Shu." This time he was straightforward, giving a name, though it’s most likely fake.

Shen Tang chewed on it a couple of times, feeling it somewhat familiar, as if she had heard it somewhere, but could not recall.

Shu watched the little female seemingly lost in thought, a subtle ripple surfacing in his eyes, as if a fleeting emotion passed. His slender fingertips seemed to move slightly, but he didn’t do anything.

Shen Tang quickly came to her senses, looking at the outstanding man before her, the alertness in her eyes lessened, but she still said somewhat distantly, "No matter what you want to do, thank you for saving me and helping us so many times."

Saying this, she instinctively wanted to take out something to express her gratitude, but found that all her valuable space bracelet and items had been given to Shen Li, leaving her with nothing worth much in her space, feeling quite a bit strapped.

Shu naturally saw her intention and smiled indifferently, "No need for thanks. Saving you is my affair, it’s unrelated to you."

"If you truly want to thank me, just live well. Don’t be so reckless, repeatedly almost losing your life. You don’t have the fortune of a nine-lived cat."

Shen Tang’s face flushed slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed, she coughed lightly, "I know. Anyhow, I’m very thankful to you. But I must go. I need to find my Beast Husband."

Lu Xiao and the others don’t have a system, they must be very anxious finding her missing. Especially Xiao Jin, that impulsive one, might do something foolish in a rash act. She must hurry to regroup with them.

Shu said, "If you leave now to regroup, the Divine Hall will quickly track you down, possibly dragging your Beast Husband into this mess again."

Shen Tang had just reached the door, her steps suddenly halted.

Shu got up, walked to her side, and kindly advised, "No rush. They are adults after all, not so fragile. Leaving them to cool off won’t kill them. If you go now, you’ll only add trouble for them, instead it’s better to stay here a few days, wait till things calm down, and then contact them."

He also made a point to explain, "Rest assured staying here, don’t worry about me betraying you. If I intended to betray you, I would have done so long ago."

"... You’ve gone to such lengths to save me, I believe you won’t harm me." Shen Tang coughed lightly. Actually, she indeed harbored such a thought earlier.

Of course, she thought the man made a valid point, going now isn’t the best timing.

It’s just a pity she doesn’t have her bracelet now; she can’t even send a message, leaving her Beast Husband worried for a few days.

But at least they ought to know she escaped from the Divine Hall; they shouldn’t quite lose their composure.

Once things settle here, she’ll definitely regroup with them swiftly.

"Thank you, then I will need to trouble you for a few more days."

"You’re welcome, my pleasure."

Shu took her to the adjacent room.

The room here had been cleaned up previously, looking like a side-bedroom for a child of the house. Unlike the simple and elegant master bedroom, it’s decorated in a pink and soft style, with several plush toys placed on the bed and the window sill, like it was meant for a little girl, which starkly contrasts with the man’s temperament.

"You..." Shen Tang just wanted to ask if someone had lived here before.

Shu preemptively explained, "This was initially a small town, after being destroyed by a mutant beast tide, the residents either died or fled. Only this house is still habitable, and the facilities inside are relatively intact. I just cleaned it up a bit. If you don’t like it here, you can stay in my room."

"No need, I’ll stay here." Shen Tang felt too embarrassed to take over the host’s nest, anyway she’ll just be here for a few days.

Shu allowed her to rest and left first.

Shen Tang closed the bedroom door and lay down on the soft bed. The sheets and bedding must have been washed and dried, feeling very soft and comfortable to sleep in. There’s also a faint aroma in the air, which is the lily scent she particularly likes.

Lately, Shen Tang had been exhausted both mentally and physically, not knowing how long it’s been since she had a good sleep. Now lying on this soft bed, smelling the pleasant fragrance, though still alert in her heart, she unknowingly fell asleep.

She slept until the moon hung on the tree branches.

The door clicked lightly.

The man’s refined and tall figure walked into the room, stood by the bed, looking at the sleeping female, his gaze darkened a bit.

At this moment, he was completely different from during the day. There was less of the enigmatic languor, and he appeared more tender, with a trace of nostalgic yearning.

Shen Tang gradually slept uneasily, as if she had a nightmare.

She dreamt again of appearing in a very dark place where she could see nothing. There seemed to be some sound of water flowing around, her consciousness in a dazed, muddled state.

After an unknown span, a sudden brightness appeared before her.

Like waking from a sleep to open a narrow slit of eyes, there was the stark glaring, blurry cold white light. She seemed to see a crowd of people in white coats surrounding her.

They seemed to be talking about something, but she couldn’t hear clearly, hearing nothing at all.

She just felt very uncomfortable, as if tied to a cold operating table, unable to move.

Her consciousness faded again, seeming to have another dream.

In that dream, she seemed to be a little girl of four or five, her appearance blurred, but faintly visible as a delicate pretty child. However, her state was not good, hair disheveled, clothes tattered, muddied.

It was a very dark night. The little girl stumbled and ran, as if a fierce beast was pursuing her.

She fell headlong but still struggled to get up and continue running. One shoe flung off, with muddy little feet, faintly showing traces of bleeding.

No one noticed she was loosely holding something in her right hand. Looking closely, unbelievably it was a little scorpion, small, curled quietly and motionless, pitch black.

The little girl softly spoke, "Little Stone... Don’t... don’t be afraid... we will escape for sure..."

She spoke intermittently, her voice so youthful yet resolute.
