Hello, Comrade. I'm Here to Marry You!
Chapter 235: Will You Divorce Me?
As Su Zhaozhao thought of this, her heart ached terribly.
In truth, Su Zhaozhao didn’t think it was a big deal that she’d been mistaken.
’So what if I was wrong? It’s not like I can’t change, right?’
That Xie Huaizhen was indeed handsome. No wonder when Su Zhaozhao first saw him, she thought he looked just like the male lead.
’It wasn’t just that he *looked* like the male lead—he *was* the male lead.’
’And here she was, completely clueless. If only she had made more of an effort to remember the protagonist’s name when she read the novel, she could have avoided this whole ridiculous mistake.’
She was actually fine with it. She’d married Xie Huaizheng, and that was that. Xie Huaizheng treated her so well, and she liked him.
But now, she had no idea what Xie Huaizheng was truly thinking.
His strange anxiety lately made Su Zhaozhao unable to stop wondering if it was because he didn’t like her anymore. Was he considering whether or not to finally lay his cards on the table?
’After all, he has a childhood fiancée waiting for him, too.’
The more Su Zhaozhao thought, the more jumbled her mind became, and a sharp pain stabbed at her heart.
She truly, deeply cared for Xie Huaizheng.
In the beginning, she hadn’t liked him all that much. She only wanted to be with him because she had no one to rely on after arriving in this world.
’At least the male lead would be reliable,’ she had thought.
But she never expected that he wasn’t the male lead, and that she would fall for him.
’Who cares? What’s most important is that *I* like him.’
But she didn’t know what Xie Huaizheng was thinking.
The more her thoughts spiraled, the dizzier Su Zhaozhao felt.
Eventually, she just gave up and fell asleep on the sofa.
When Xie Huaizheng returned, the house was silent. He froze.
He turned his head and saw Su Zhaozhao asleep on the sofa.
Her small frame was curled into a ball.
Xie Huaizheng was in such a hurry that he didn’t even take off his military cap as he rushed over and tried to wake Su Zhaozhao.
"Zhaozhao, why did you fall asleep out here?"
The weather was starting to turn cold, and the temperature difference between day and night was growing larger.
’She’ll catch a cold sleeping out here.’
He called out to her, but Su Zhaozhao didn’t seem to react, remaining fast asleep.
He cupped her face in his hands, and the scalding heat that met his palms made him realize—Su Zhaozhao had a fever.
Instantly, Xie Huaizheng felt as if a hand had seized his heart, and a wave of pain and suffocation washed over him.
He couldn’t help but take a deep breath, his thin lips pressing into a tight line.
He swept Su Zhaozhao into his arms and carried her to their soft bed.
He fetched a thermometer to take her temperature. When he saw it read 39 degrees Celsius, Xie Huaizheng’s brow furrowed even more tightly.
’How did she suddenly get a fever?’
Looking at the young woman lying unconscious on the bed, Xie Huaizheng was worried sick.
Fortunately, after so many years in the army, Xie Huaizheng had learned how to handle these kinds of illnesses.
He first went to the bathroom and brought out a basin of water. He soaked a towel and placed it on Su Zhaozhao’s forehead to help bring her temperature down.
Then he went to look for fever-reducing medicine in the drawer.
He remembered they had some; Su Zhaozhao had organized it before.
After checking the labels in the drawer full of medicine, Xie Huaizheng found the fever reducer. He brought it to her with a glass of warm water.
He helped Su Zhaozhao sit up.
"Zhaozhao, time to take your medicine. Wake up." Despite his extreme anxiety, his tone was impossibly gentle.
Xie Huaizheng’s calls woke Su Zhaozhao, but when she opened her eyes, the world was spinning, and her mind felt foggy.
"What’s wrong?" She still hadn’t quite come to her senses.
"Zhaozhao, you have a fever. Be a good girl and take your medicine," Xie Huaizheng said, holding her in his arms as he helped her take it.
Su Zhaozhao glanced at the pill.
It was the ibuprofen she had taken from her pocket dimension—a very effective fever reducer.
Su Zhaozhao swallowed it and took a sip of water.
She was a little bewildered herself. "Why do I have a fever...?"
She looked at Xie Huaizheng, and thinking about her situation with him, she began to feel sad again.
Xie Huaizheng, however, didn’t notice her low spirits. He was only worried about her physical condition.
"You fell asleep on the sofa earlier. You probably caught a chill."
Thinking of this, Xie Huaizheng couldn’t help but sigh. "You’re so delicate. Why can’t you be a little more careful?"
"I don’t know either..." As Su Zhaozhao spoke, tears began to fall uncontrollably.
Perhaps it was because sick people are more fragile, but she felt that even Xie Huaizheng’s tone was harsh.
"Why are you being so harsh with me?"
Seeing Su Zhaozhao cry, Xie Huaizheng panicked. He frantically wiped away her tears, saying, "No, no, I didn’t mean to. Zhaozhao, please don’t cry. I’m just worried about you."
He really wasn’t very good at comforting women. He thought he was already being very gentle with Su Zhaozhao.
But perhaps because she wasn’t feeling well, she was being more sensitive.
To her, his words had sounded like a scolding.
Xie Huaizheng could only pull her into his arms, kissing her and whispering in the gentlest voice to soothe her.
At this moment, this battle-hardened man of iron and blood was as gentle as could be.
But his gentleness only made Su Zhaozhao want to cry even more.
"Xie Huaizheng, do you think I’m a lot of trouble?" she couldn’t help but ask.
She felt that in their relationship, it was always him accommodating her.
Xie Huaizheng paused. He set the water glass aside and shifted his position so that Su Zhaozhao could lean more comfortably against his chest.
"Why would you say that?"
"I’m always so unlucky. I run into all kinds of danger, and I get sick so easily, making you worry all the time."
She had already gotten a fever twice since transmigrating into this book. ’I really am too fragile,’ Su Zhaozhao thought, not to mention all the other dangers that had made Xie Huaizheng worry.
He was already busy and tired enough, yet he still had to worry about her.
’It was one thing before, but now... I’m not even his real fiancée.’
The thought made Su Zhaozhao even more miserable.
Xie Huaizheng listened to Su Zhaozhao’s inexplicable words and felt a headache coming on.
"Zhaozhao, how could you think that? You’re my wife; taking care of you is what I’m supposed to do. Of course I don’t want you to be in danger—I’d rather face it all in your place—but I would never, ever think of you as a bother. You are my wife."
Xie Huaizheng stroked Su Zhaozhao’s hair, again and again.
’Do sick people just let their imaginations run wild like this?’
Seeing her crying until her eyes were red as a rabbit’s, he felt his own heart shatter.
’Why can’t I seem to comfort her, no matter what I do?’
She was this sick, and yet she was still crying, tears streaming down her face as if they would never stop.
Her scalding tears burned his chest.
"Zhaozhao, please stop crying, okay? If you keep crying like this, my heart is going to break."
Su Zhaozhao looked at Xie Huaizheng, and thinking of the matter she had been agonizing over all day, she couldn’t stop herself from asking, "Xie Huaizheng, tell me honestly... are you going to divorce me?"
Upon hearing her words, Xie Huaizheng’s expression instantly darkened.
But remembering that Su Zhaozhao was still sick, he forced his expression to soften, not wanting to frighten her.
In this state, she was even more fragile than usual.
