Heavenly Illusions
Chapter 59- Successive Breakthroughs
Chapter 59: Chapter 59- Successive Breakthroughs
The end result of Xai Lin’s lightning tribulation was An Mo clinging to her and channeling the energy from the lightning bolts into her body as they struck him.
Even though Xai Lin had already become numb, thinking of the fact that she had to rely on such a method to complete her Foundation Establishment breakthrough, she was thoroughly indignant. She knew the Heavenly Dao had favorites, but to this extent? It was a bit too blatant, and quite shameless if you asked her.
Xai Lin had thought of just doing without the lightning tribulation to establish her foundation, as she could do so without it. However, that thought had only crossed her mind for a brief moment before dispersing.
After all, the benefits of using heavenly lightning during her breakthrough could allow her to have an extremely stable foundation.
This foundation in question covered several aspects, but the main four was the physical body, the Sea of Consciousness or the soul, the meridians, and finally the dantian.
After one accumulates Spiritual Qi in the Qi Gathering Realm, and then breakthrough into the Foundation Establishment Realm, one would use this accumulated Spiritual Qi, along with the help of additional medicinal pills and medicinal baths to, one, strengthen one’s physique—two, condensing one’s soul power in the Sea of Consciousness to form Spiritual Sense—three, open the maximum amount of meridians and cleanse them thoroughly, and four, refine the dantian while expanding and strengthening it.
Once these steps were completed, one would officially become a Foundation Establishment Realm expert, that had a robust physique, a stronger Spiritual Qi recovery rate, a stronger soul that could extend from their body in the form of Spiritual Sense, and finally, far more abundant Spiritual Qi, tens of times more than if one were in the Qi Gathering Realm.
This process was basic knowledge in the cultivation world that generally applied to most cultivators, but for geniuses like Xai Lin, who would call upon heavenly lightning during their Foundation Establishment Realm breakthrough, those four aspects of theirs would experience a qualitative difference from other Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators under the baptism of heavenly lightning.
It would also pull them further apart from their peers, more than what their heaven-defying talent already allowed them to.
This was one of the aspects of the cultivation world that common cultivators lament about—that the heavens were unfair—as geniuses with outstanding talent could obtain chances to become even more outstanding, while they could only remain mediocre. Of course, they conveniently left out the dangers that usually accompany those opportunities.
But this got Xai Lin thinking about her current position in this world’s mechanism.
Was she an invader that was disrupting its predestined trajectory, or someone who had been given an opportunity?
If you say she was the former, then she was constantly being coerced by this world’s Heavenly Dao to follow her destined path of being a brainless cannon fodder villain that was killed by a main protagonist. But if you say she was the latter, the Heavenly Dao was rewarding her for helping those main protagonists by lessening that coercion.
This odd event with her lightning tribulation made Xai Lin think of many things. However, no matter how much she thought, she could not figure things out. Or rather, she could not understand the reason for her reincarnating into this world.
In her past life, even though her heritage was a bit special, on the grand scale of the entire human race, she was nothing.
The book “Heavenly Illusions” was extremely popular in the country she lived in and was even adapted into several forms before being introduced overseas, eventually becoming popular worldwide. But out of the tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions of readers, why was she the one who reincarnated into this book?
And most important of all, how the hell did she even come to this place!?
That’s right, Xai Lin actually could not remember how she had died in her past life. The last thing she remembered was reading the last story arc of “Heavenly Illusions” during lunch break at school and feeling excited. After that, she was reborn as ‘Xai Lin’ and only awaken her memories at the age of five.
For now, she could only chalk it up to dying from a sudden heart attack after becoming too excited.
As these thoughts floated up in her mind one by one, Xai Lin floated in mid-air above the ocean waters in a cross-legged position, stabilizing her breakthrough.
Meanwhile, An Mo was floating cross-legged nearby, clothesless while propping his chin up with his hand.
He had already absorbed the energy from all those heavenly lightning strikes, and his cultivation had actually increased by a minor realm, so he was now in the mid-stage of the Foundation Establishment Realm.
An Mo, being that he was a Divine Beast—his method of cultivation differed from humans. And even among beasts, a Divine Beast’s method of cultivation was different.
For Demonic Beasts, who were beasts without a Divine Beast bloodline, they cultivate by absorbing Spiritual Qi and strengthen their physical body, while refining their own bloodline. Once they reach Rank 3, which was equivalent to the Human Race’s Golden Core Formation Realm, they would go through a lightning tribulation to become a Rank 4 beast, which was equivalent to the Human Race’s Soul Emergence Realm..
If they manage to pass this heavenly tribulation and become a Rank 4 beast, their bloodline would be recognized by the Heavenly Dao, and they would be granted with one or more innate talent. They would also be able to take on human form as well.
The panda Bai Nou was an example of this, and its innate talent was the miniature world in its baby pouch.
As for Spiritual Beasts, who have traces of Divine Beast bloodline, they similarly cultivate by absorbing Spiritual Qi to strengthen their bodies and refine that trace of Divine Beast bloodline. Once they passed the heavenly tribulation to become a Rank 4 beast, they could increase the purity of their bloodline and awaken one or more innate talent of their ancestors.
For Divine Beasts, however, they were greatly favored by the heavens. They cultivated merely by growing up. The older they get, the more their bloodlines would awaken, and the stronger they would become.
Divine Beasts were also able to naturally use their abilities upon birth, and they awakened their human forms after a few years. There was no need to go through a heavenly tribulation, their cultivation paths were extremely smooth.
Currently, An Mo was considered to be a Rank 2 beast. What that lightning tribulation did for him was strengthen his physique and cleanse his bloodline, which allowed him to gain access to more of his bloodline’s power, and thus increasing his overall cultivation base by a minor realm.
After what felt like forever, a bored An Mo finally sense the energy around Xai Lin calming down. He immediately perked up and floated closer to her.
When Xai Lin opened her eyes, she came face to face with An Mo’s freckled face.
With the mindset of not refusing what had presented itself to her, Xai Lin leaned forward and pecked An Mo on his lips.
Caught off-guard, An Mo blinked, his expression becoming a bit dazed. But he soon recovered, his expression lighting up. However, before he could get excited and attack Xai Lin, a set of clothes was thrown onto his face.
“Hurry and change into something.”
Having been riled up only to be blocked right after, An Mo felt somewhat stifled. However, he still obediently put on the clothes Xai Lin gave him.
As for why he didn’t just change into one of his Divine Beast forms—of course it wasn’t because An Mo like being naked with only a few feathers covering him—it was because they were currently a bit overwhelmed by the heavenly lightning’s energy so they needed time to settle down before he could revert to them.
Watching as An Mo twisted in the air while trying to put on his pants, Xai Lin released a soft chuckle.
After An Mo was finished putting on his clothes, he saddled up to Xai Lin and wrapped his arms around her shoulders while leaning his entire weight on her.
“Xai-xai, how come you’ve reached the peak of the Foundation Establishment Realm already?”
An Mo was finally able to voice the question that had puzzled him since Xai Lin had begun her breakthrough. Only the heavens knew how shocked he was when he felt Xai Lin’s aura climbing higher and higher until it reached the peak of the Foundation Establishment Realm.
The momentum of her breakthrough was so great that An Mo actually fantasized her cultivation base going up until she directly ascended to become an Immortal. For that split second he thought his newly acquired Dao Partner would ascend to the Immortal Realm and leave him behind, making him so scared he contemplated forming a Dao Beast companion contract with her.
Perhaps if it was a Dao Companion contract between them, he would be barred from ascending with her, but with a Dao Beast contract he and Xai Lin would be recognized as one and the same, so he could ascend with her.
But thankfully, this thought was fleeting. If he were to form a Dao Beast companion contract with Xai Lin, they might face some problems when they eventually get married and form a Dao Companion contract.
Unbeknownst to An Mo’s wild thoughts, Xai Lin familiarly wrapped her arms around An Mo’s waist and allowed him to lean on her, while she responded in a skeptical tone.
“My successive breakthroughs is related to the Heaven and Earth Refinement Scripture’s method of cultivation. Did your Legacy Memories not mention this?”
