Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Veyra In Action (part 3)

Veyra moved among them with frightening ease.

Her Level 30 strength was simply too overwhelming.

The adventurers were mostly Level 10.

Only Darian and Eric had reached Level 15.

Even when they had fought together, they had barely been able to withstand Veyra’s attacks.

Now that Darian was gone and their formation had collapsed, there was no longer any possibility of victory.

One adventurer charged with a spear.

Veyra sidestepped the thrust and struck him with the back of her hand.

Another attempted to attack her from the side. She caught his weapon and kicked him away.

Two more tried to protect each other.

Veyra’s crimson flames erupted between them, forcing them apart before she knocked them down one after another.

The throne room became chaotic. Weapons clattered against stone.

Footsteps echoed through the enormous chamber.

Shouts and desperate commands overlapped with one another.

Eric kept trying to restore order, but every attempt failed.

"Everyone, listen to me!"

His voice cracked.

"Don’t panic!"

Nobody answered.

Eric looked around desperately.

He could no longer see a group of adventurers.

There were only frightened individuals trying to survive.

He slowly realized that the battle had already been decided.

They had lost.

Not because they had made one mistake.

Not because they had chosen the wrong strategy.

They had simply encountered an opponent far beyond their ability to defeat.

Eric slowly raised his staff again, he knew what was coming.

Still, he couldn’t simply surrender.

He had a duty.

He had been sent here by the Adventurer’s Guild to assist with the dungeon assessment.

And even though everyone else had lost hope, he would at least fight until the end.

"Then..."

Eric took a deep breath.

"I’ll make sure they don’t die for nothing."

Veyra’s expression became slightly more respectful.

"You have courage."

Eric pointed his staff toward her.

"Come."

Veyra smiled.

"As you wish."

The final exchange began.

Eric unleashed the last of his remaining mana, sending spell after spell toward Veyra. Stone spikes erupted from the floor, barriers appeared in rapid succession, and magical projectiles flew across the chamber.

Veyra moved through them.

She shattered the stone attacks with her Infernal Blade, avoided the magical projectiles, and burned through the barriers with crimson flames.

Eric continued fighting until his mana was completely exhausted.

When his staff finally fell from his hand, he stood there breathing heavily.

Veyra approached.

Eric looked at her.

Then, strangely, he smiled.

"So this is how it ends."

Veyra stopped in front of him.

"Yes."

Eric closed his eyes.

"I suppose... we should have never entered this dungeon."

Veyra raised her hand, the crimson flames gathered around her palm.

A moment later, the final adventurer fell.

The throne room became silent.

All thirteen adventurers who had entered the boss room were dead.

Veyra slowly lowered her hand and looked toward Ragnar.

"My Lord."

Ragnar remained seated upon his throne, watching the scene quietly.

Then suddenly...

Ding!

A familiar system notification appeared before him.

Ragnar’s eyes immediately shifted toward it.

A familiar system notification appeared before him.

Ragnar’s eyes immediately shifted toward it.

[Dungeon Intruders Eliminated]

[Human Adventurers Defeated: 13]

[Total Soul Points Obtained: 44]

Ragnar’s eyebrows rose.

"Thirty?"

Another series of notifications appeared.

[Individual Soul Rewards]

[Darian: 10 Soul Points]

[Eric: 10 Soul Points]

[Adventurer: 2 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 2 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 3 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 2 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 2 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 3 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 2 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 2 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 2 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 2 Soul Point]

[Adventurer: 2 Soul Point]

Ragnar’s eyes widened.

"Forty-six?"

He leaned forward in his throne, his massive four-meter-tall body casting a long shadow across the throne room as he stared at the floating interface. His enormous greatsword remained strapped across his back, untouched throughout the entire battle, while the crimson glow of Veyra’s flames still illuminated the chamber around him.

"Forty-six Soul Points from thirteen humans..."

Ragnar slowly rubbed his chin.

"That’s a lot."

Veyra, who was already sitting comfortably on Ragnar’s lap, glanced toward the notification. Her expression remained calm, although there was a faint smile on her beautiful face.

"It seems the humans were quite valuable, My Lord."

He looked through the available options.

"With this much, I can finally strengthen the dungeon properly."

Veyra noticed the excitement in his eyes.

"What does my Lord intend to purchase?"

Ragnar’s fingers tapped against the armrest of his throne.

"I’m not sure yet."

He looked toward the enormous throne room.

"The first thing I need is more defenders."

His gaze shifted toward the entrance.

"Those adventurers were only from a single town."

His smile slowly disappeared, replaced by a more serious expression.

"If the mayor sent them here, there’s a good chance they’ll send someone else after they don’t return."

Veyra nodded.

"That is likely."

"And next time..."

Ragnar’s eyes narrowed.

"They’ll probably know that this dungeon is dangerous."

He paused.

"They might bring stronger people."

Veyra’s smile returned.

"Then let them come."

She casually rested her head against Ragnar.

"My Lord has me now."

Then another notification appeared.

[Ding!]

[You have accumulated enough experience to increase your level.]

[Level Up.]

[Level 10 → Level 20]

[You have reached Level 20.]

Ragnar froze.

"...What?"

He stared at the notifications.

Then he slowly opened his status panel.

[Name: Ragnar Lindgren]

[Race: Demon]

[Level: 20]

[Class: Dungeon Master]

[Soul Points: 46]

[Dungeon Floor: 1]

[Subordinates: 1]

Ragnar blinked several times.

"Level twenty..."

A wide grin slowly appeared across his demonic face.

"I jumped ten levels?"

Veyra, still sitting comfortably on his lap, glanced toward the status window before looking back at him.

"Congratulations, My Lord."

Ragnar laughed.

"That was much faster than I expected."

He clenched one enormous hand before opening it again, feeling the change within his body. The increase wasn’t merely a number displayed by the system. His physical strength had noticeably increased, his senses had become sharper, and the amount of energy he could feel circulating within his body was considerably greater than before.

Ragnar had only recently reached Level 10.

Now he was Level 20.
