Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Thousand Faces Transformation Orb

Ragnar lowered his gaze toward his enormous hands. His dark claws rested against the armrest of his throne, and the crimson patterns etched into his obsidian armor glowed faintly beneath the magical lights. Even without looking into a mirror, he knew exactly what he looked like.

There was nothing wrong with his appearance. In fact, Ragnar was rather satisfied with it.

The problem was that he couldn’t exactly walk into a human looking like this and expect people to welcome him with open arms.

Even if he had no intention of harming anyone, most humans would probably assume he was a powerful demon who had emerged from the depths of a dungeon. Some might run away, while others could immediately draw their weapons and call for reinforcements.

That would make gathering information about the outside world unnecessarily troublesome.

Ragnar straightened his back and opened the system interface again. Instead of selecting the monster shop or dungeon management section, he searched through the available categories until he found the item shop.

Unlike the monster shop, which primarily offered creatures and dungeon-related resources, the item shop contained various objects that could affect a Dungeon Master’s abilities, appearance, and even certain aspects of their status.

He had browsed through it briefly in the past, but he had never paid much attention to items that didn’t directly improve his combat strength or dungeon management.

Now, however, he had a different purpose.

"There should be something useful here."

The system interface expanded, displaying a long list of items. Ragnar skimmed through the descriptions, passing over potions, defensive treasures, magical tools, and several objects that seemed designed for Dungeon Masters who wanted to strengthen themselves.

Some items were absurdly expensive. Others offered benefits that Ragnar didn’t particularly need at the moment.

He continued browsing.

After several minutes, a particular entry finally caught his attention.

"Oh?"

Ragnar leaned forward, his glowing eyes narrowing slightly as he read the description.

[Item Shop]

[Item Name: Thousand Faces Transformation Orb]

[Classification: Illusion Item]

[Required Soul Points: 10]

[Description:

The Thousand Faces Transformation Orb is a mysterious magical artifact capable of altering the user’s physical appearance and adjusting their displayed level. Once activated, the user can assume a different humanoid appearance, changing their facial features, apparent age, hair, eye color, skin tone, height, and overall physique.

The transformation remains active until the user voluntarily cancels it. The artifact does not permanently alter the user’s original body, and the user can return to their original appearance at any time.]

Ragnar stared at the description for several seconds.

Then, a wide grin spread across his face.

"Found it!"

He had initially expected to find an ordinary disguise item that could change his face or make him look like a human. However, this artifact was considerably more useful than he had anticipated.

Not only could it alter his appearance, but it could also conceal his level.

That was an extremely valuable ability.

Ragnar was currently Level 45. A stranger with unusual equipment and a suspiciously high level would inevitably invite questions, especially if he claimed to be an ordinary adventurer.

"Ten Soul Points," Ragnar murmured, looking at the price. "It’s a little expensive, considering I only have sixteen left, but this is definitely worth the investment."

Ragnar selected the item.

[Thousand Faces Transformation Orb]

[Required Soul Points: 10]

[Current Soul Points: 16]

[Purchase this item?]

"Confirm."

The system flashed, and ten Soul Points disappeared from his balance.

[Purchase Successful]

[Thousand Faces Transformation Orb acquired.]

[Remaining Soul Points: 6]

A small orb appeared in Ragnar’s enormous palm.

It was about the size of an ordinary apple, its smooth surface shifting between silver and pale gold. Strange symbols moved beneath its translucent exterior, forming patterns that resembled countless faces before dissolving into light.

Ragnar turned the orb over in his hand, examining it with interest.

"So this is what it looks like."

The artifact felt surprisingly light despite its mysterious appearance. A faint warmth spread through his palm, and the symbols inside the orb began glowing more brightly as though responding to his presence.

He could feel a subtle magical connection forming between the artifact and his body.

Ragnar’s smile lingered for a moment before he remembered an important problem.

Although the Thousand Faces Transformation Orb had allowed him to assume a human appearance, changing his face and concealing his true level would not magically give him an identity.

If he walked into the dungeon’s entrance hall looking like an ordinary adventurer, the people stationed there would undoubtedly question him. Where had he come from? Which adventurer group did he belong to? Why had nobody seen him before? And most importantly, where was his adventurer identification?

He could invent answers to those questions, of course, but doing so without knowing how the people of this world handled such matters would only make him look suspicious.

The system displayed dozens of adventurers scattered throughout the dungeon. Some were moving through the Dead Forest on the second floor, while others were fighting monsters in the first-floor areas. Ragnar could observe their positions, levels, and conditions, but he couldn’t see anything beyond the dungeon’s boundaries.

"Let’s find a suitable person," Ragnar murmured.

He carefully examined the adventurers one by one, looking for someone who matched his requirements. He needed a human with an established identity, preferably someone whose appearance he could reproduce accurately. A lone adventurer would be ideal, since there would be fewer companions who might recognize him.

After several minutes, he finally found a promising candidate.

Deep inside the first floor’s spider nest, a lone adventurer was desperately fighting for his life.

The man appeared to be in his early thirties. His leather armor was torn in several places, and blood stained his sleeves and the side of his face. A battered sword rested in his trembling hand, while several dead spiders lay scattered around him.

Unfortunately, the corpses had done little to improve his situation. More spiders were emerging from the darkness, surrounding him from every direction.

The system displayed his information.

[Name: Unknown]

[Race: Human]

[Level: 15]

Ragnar leaned forward slightly, studying the man’s condition.

"Level 15, huh? That’s considerably better than an inexperienced beginner. And since he’s alone, there shouldn’t be anyone waiting for him at the entrance."

Kaelira looked at the display over Ragnar’s shoulder. "He’s already surrounded. I doubt he’ll survive much longer."

"Probably not."
