Having Wives And Raising Children Levels Me Up

Chapter 79. Eating Together (2).

Chapter 79: 79. Eating Together (2).

"What?!?" Tatiana exclaimed with a shocked look on her face, but Austin simply grinned ominously as he teased the dragon lady in return for what she had done to him during their picnic.

"Wait a minute, don’t tell me you’re still pissed off about the picnic?"

"Maybe I am."

"And now you’re using food as revenge?"

"Yep."

"That’s not fair!!" Tatiana pleaded with her cute puppy dog eyes and Rowena couldn’t help but laugh softly before covering her mouth with one hand as she watched the two of them bickering between bites.

She swiftly reached for a small portion of the mashed potatoes as well and the moment it touched her tongue, Rowena instantly understood why Nora and Tatiana were behaving the way they did.

The food was simply rich, buttery and smooth in a way she had never encountered in any dish served in her territory before, and before she knew it, Rowena suddenly found herself taking a second spoonful before she’d even finished the first.

"This is amazing." Rowena admitted quietly and Nora added with a nod.

"I know right? I don’t think I’ve eaten anything as delicious as this before. Hubby’s culinary skills are out of this world."

Hearing how his wife was praising him, Austin couldn’t help but grin as he slid one of the small dishes he made toward her. "If you think that’s delicious, then wait until you try the fried ones with this sauce right here, just dip it in that and enjoy."

Rowena and Nora did as he suggested and a soft satisfied moan escaped their lips as they instantly devoured the food in front of them.

But as Rowena found herself reaching for more food without even knowing, a small thread of worry still remained tucked away at the back of her mind because she was still puzzled as to where Austin had found so many of these potatoes from

It seemed like he had used a single day to grow all the five hundred vegetables that had been harvested but that was remotely impossible because a single day wasn’t nearly enough time to grow anything at this scale, let alone something none of her people had ever laid eyes on before.

But as she pondered about this, Rowena also recalled what Austin had promised her yesterday.

And that was to give her the answers she needed, so which means he would be doing that, most likely after they are done eating.

And so, that thought alone was enough to make her feel relax as she simply enjoyed the meal in front of her.

And by the time the platters had been thoroughly emptied, Tatiana leaves her bsck in her chair with both hands resting contentedly against her stomach.

Oh and speaking of her stomach, it was already as round as anything imaginable, making her look like a pregnant woman underneath the stress she was wearing.

"Ahh~" She moaned. "Yes, this is the life right here."

She rubbed her tummy as she acknowledged what a really delicious meal she had just eaten.

But it was at this exact moment that a soft knock sounded against the dining room door and Cedric stepped inside before bowing briefly and crossing the room toward Rowena.

He leaned down and murmured something close to her ear so that only the countess would be able to hear what he was saying.

But the moment she heard what Cedric said, Rowena’s eyes couldn’t help but widen in surprise.

"What? Already. I’d nearly forgotten." she muttered to Cedric and Tatiana glanced toward her before asking.

"What’s hunting season?"

Both Rowena and Cedric turned toward the dragon lady in matching surprise before staring at each other and back to the dragon lady again.

After all, the distance between them and Tatiana’s seat had been more than enough to assure them that no one could hear what they were saying but to their surprise, Tatiana had been able to perfectly heard what Cedric said.

The senses of a dragon definitely weren’t exaggerated in the myths they had heard of in the past.

Anyway, pushing this thought aside for now, Rowena swiftly recovered herself before properly facing Tatiana with a smile as she replied to Tatiana’s inquiry.

"Hunting season is a yearly occurrence here in Elmfield. Griffins descend from a nearby mountain range during this period and storm the skies."

"Oh is that so." Tatiana leaned forward, now feeling interested in the topic that was being discussed.

"Yes, they steal whatever livestock or supplies they can carry off and we send hunting parties out to thin their numbers before they grow too numerous for us to manage."

Hearing this, Tatiana’s expression immediately brightened up as she alternated her gaze between Austin and Rowena.

"I want to hunt them too."

"You’re joking right?" Austin asked with a puzzled look on his face.

"Nope, I’m serious."

"But you just ate an entire chicken just now.l, are you sure you can...."

"It’s fine. I need the exercise once in a while or else I’ll just get fat sitting around your mansion eating delicious food all day." Tatiana explained this as a matter of factly to Austin that Rowena and Nora nearly choked on their own laughter.

"So, what about you? Will you be joining me?" Tatiana asked Austin but he shook his head in response.

He’s have enough adventuring in this world already and there was no way he was going to engage in another adventure when he clearly hadn’t even his daughter opening up her eyes yet.

And so, In a nutshell, going out on a adventure was the last thing on Austin’s mind right now.

"Oh okay, then I guess it’s just me heading out to face the griffins." Tatiana announced and Cedric glanced toward Rowena.

He was silently asking permission from Rowena but after a brief pause, the countess finally replied with a nod.

"Very well Cedric. Please escort her to meet the knights and they should already be assembling near the eastern gate."

Hearing this, Cedric bowed once more before gesturing for Tatiana to follow him.

She rose from her seat and asked excitedly about the griffins from Cedric as the two of them made their way out of the dining room whilst their voice trailed off into the distance until the door swung shut behind them.

Even from the dining room they were in right now, Austin and the ladies could even hear the excitement coming all the way from where the maids were currently in.

That’s because, the maids had also been given a share of the food that was cooked and now it had indirectly helped in increasing their loyalty towards the countess friend as they all huddled up to chat about things that were of interest to them right now.

Anyways, Time passed and the room turned silent with Austin and Rowena making their way to one of the mansion smaller rooms.

Nora had returned back to her bedroom to see her little baby as well so it was just Austin and Rowena right now.

The two settled on to a couch together as the late morning sun filtered gently through the windows.

"Alright. It’s explanation time." Rowena said as she folded her hands in her lap..

"Alright, alright. I did promise to explain it to you after all, so there’s no need to worry about me not being a man of my words."

"Well, if you say so." Rowena grinned as she listened to what Austin had to say.

And since he couldn’t explain that he had a system without seeming like a weirdo, he decided to give Rowena a reasonably believable account first by explaining that the strange crop had originally come from a trader passing through a distant market.

He explained that it was an obscure import from somewhere far beyond Elmfield borders.

Then, he explained to her about Sylvie’s help in increasing the growth rate of the potatoes, but since Sylvie’s help wasn’t enough, he told her about the strange blue dust Rowena had heard from the maids.

"So, I only planted five of them and before dinner time that patch had produced over five hundred so I genuinely wasn’t expecting anything close to that."

"Five hundred potatoes from just five?" Rowena repeated with a shocked look on her face.

"Yes, but I think it’s the blue dust. It’s looking like some kind of mana residue and it helped in accelerating the growth of those potatoes and to be honest, I think it could work perfectly as a natural fertiliser, so I’m sure your farmers could use some across your farmlands."

Hearing this, Rowena was quiet for a moment as she processed the implications of what Austin had just told her.

She was still deep in her thoughts when Austin suddenly patted her lap and then his own lap, and a grin instantly spread across Rowena’s lips when she realised what he was asking her to do.

She swiftly rested her head on his lap as she pondered on everything Austin had told her.

After a while, she finally let out a long exhale before asking. "Do you think we could find enough of this dust to fertilise the rest of my farmlands?"
