Chapter 141 - 141. Propaganda
Magnus arrived at Diagon Alley. It was, as always, bustling with people. The broom shop had an extra crowd today. Because in the showcase, a new broom was added.
Magnus also tried to have a look but he was quickly seen by Emma, who dragged him inside the shop.
"Did you see it? Isn't it awesome? It was my Idea." She started blabbering in excitement.
"Calm down, you didn't let me see it really. What did you even do? You added rocket boosters to it?" He noticed the two metallic exhaust-like pipes attached to the back of the broom.
"YES, Severus helped me in creating this new highly combustible potion formula. It burns longer and stronger." She stated the features.
"How fast can it go?" He inquired.
"Come with me," She grabbed his hand and dragged him to the roof, where a broom was already placed.
"Try it," she nudged him.
Magnus calmly went to it and picked it in his hand. But then he turned back and asked, "Emma, did you test it before?"
Emma didn't look straight in his eyes, "Hehe... I did test the broom... before the boosters."
*BAM*
He threw the broom on the floor, "So I was your test dummy?"
"Hehe... Come on, Magnus. Don't fret about it. Didn't you say you wanted a faster broom?" She shameless said.
Magnus again looked at it and did get the urge to ride it, at least once.
"And what if I fall." He asked.
"You are the best enchanter I know. Use a charm or something." She replied.
Magnus' brows rose, "I find your abundance of faith in me too suspecting... Hmm... Well, I'll try."
He got on the broom and made sure he was properly seated. "You should have added a seat belt."
"Then you wouldn't have been able to get away if it exploded." She replied almost immediately, earning a death stare from Magnus.
"Haha... I was kidding. It won't blast, I'm sure... 60 per cent." She said the last part lightly. She was taking his help because he had told her he's immune to most fire damage.
"Here I go..." Magnus lightly pushed his feet off of the ground. It was working like a normal broom till now, just with a few extra jitters.
"Need some fine-tuning." He thought and speed up. But, he had no idea how to activate the boosters she had fitted on it. So, he passed by her and asked loudly.
"HOW DO I START THE BOOSTER?"
"There's a dial on the tip of the broom, twist it," Emma shouted back.
Magnus saw it clearly, he took a leap of faith that this won't blow up and twisted it. He heard some small noises from behind him, as if an engine was starting up.
"Response time is pretty bad," Magnus complained.
He still waited for the speed to increase, "I hope it won't blow up on my ba..."
*BOOM*
No, it was not an explosion, but just the sound. God knows what kind of potion Severus created. This was a crazy fuel.
Magnus didn't even get a chance to react and he was above the clouds. His mouth was wide open, lips and cheeks fluttering due to the air striking his face.
"AAAAAA.... THIS IS AWESOME..." He rejoiced in excitement. Finally, he felt a rush in his mind.
Slowly, he adjusted to the speed and started manoeuvring around. "I wonder if I can reach Camelot."
So, he set his direction and lowered his body to gain maximum speed. Reaching the maximum speed didn't take much time. It was a magical feeling. The speed was much more than an ordinary broom.
But, then he thought, ~Why not go faster?~
So, he positioned his feet correctly and started blasting fire from his feet. His shoes got burned in an instant but he gained a significant extra speed.
"YEAAAH BABY..." He enjoyed.
It took him just a few minutes to cross the whole of the United Kingdom Mainland and arrive at Camelot. There, he zoomed by Duck, who was flying around with a bunch of phoenixes. Fawkes was nowhere to be seen though.
He was so fast that he didn't even allow any of them to follow him, he turned around and headed back to Diagon Alley. A while later he landed back on the roof, the boosters were exhausted long ago, if Magnus hadn't used his fire then he'd not have arrived back today.
He looked at the broom with satisfaction. "What a beauty."
"Hehe, thanks." Emma giggled, completely satisfied with the broom's performance.
"I was talking about the broom." He clarified.
She nodded, "I know. So, what do you think?"
"Very fast, certainly the fastest ever made. But, I'm afraid this will never be used in quidditch as it uses external means to get faster. But, I'm sure a lot of speed enthusiasts will buy it." He said.
"Hehe, I know that. I have already done the calculations. I am going to sell each of these at 500 Galleons. The first booster comes filled, but if they want to buy more, then they will have to get it from Sev. He will also make money this way. This was why he helped me." She explained. But, she was wrong. Sev helped her because he saw her as a sister, with the same problem as him. He had noticed that she really liked Magnus, but Magnus never bothered with her. Same as Lily.
Nobody knew who Magnus liked. So, what he was to Lily and what Lily was to Magnus, Emma was the same, just a friend.
Magnus was impressed with such a plan, "Good, a decent idea to capitalise on it. Actually, make the price 1000 galleons. Only some adrenalin junkies or rich people will buy it anyway, so why not take more of their money."
"YES! I will do that. You can keep that one. I told Dad to start producing more. Want to join me for dinner?" She asked him smoothly.
"I would like to, but I have some work to do here, will be eating dinner there too." He rejected.
Emma turned sullen and asked, "Is... are you going on a dinner date with someone?"
"Yeah, with a bunch of old Merlin fanatics. It's work-related, Emma. Okay, see you later then. Say my hello to your mum and dad." He waved goodbye and left. Emma also let out a sigh of relief. She was young and didn't really know much about love or anything complex. For now, it was just a liking towards Magnus. She just wanted to spend some time with him and have fun. It's not like she had any other friends at school.
...
Magnus went to Severus' workplace. He looked as grumpy as always, brewing some potions for some clients.
"What's up, Sev?" He greeted his friend.
At least, Severus now showed a smile whenever he sees his friends. For the first time in his life, he had true friends, on whom he had faith that they would do anything for him if he was in trouble.
"Are you buying something?" Severus asked.
Magnus chuckled, "Hehe... since when did you turn into a salesgirl? Looking for big-pocketed buyers."
Severus clicked his tongue, not finding a comeback for this. Magnus then started boasting, "Did you know, I met Newton Scamander yesterday."
~I wish I was him, could have so many exotic potion ingredients.~ Severus thought about Newt.
Magnus walked up to him and patted his shoulder, "Stop dreaming, close the shop. We're going for dinner outside, and also meeting some followers of mine. Maybe we can find a few talented ones and induct them in our Order of Merlin."
"But... I can not, my boss will get angry." Severus said.
"Come on, your boss himself will be there. I also know him, so don't worry." Magnus was finally able to drag him along.
After Severus was able to close his shop, both of them headed to a big pub. It was booked for the evening. But, on their way, they saw a book shop being crowded with customers.
"Woah, what book came out today?" He wondered.
Severus knew it though, "It's called Birth of The Wizard King, A Dragon Among Snakes,"
Magnus was intrigued, "That's a very cool name. What is it about?"
"You," Severus blurted.
.
.
.
It took Magnus a second to realise what the book was. "HAHA... she may be dumb, but she has a knack for making good headlines. Have you read it?"
"No, I know you personally, why would I read your propaganda," Severus replied.
Magnus acted hurt, "Don't call it propaganda, Sev. It's literature. Come, we've got places to be."
