Harmonious Change [A Cozy, Creature Collection, Cultivation Story]
Book 3 Prologue – A World Without Color
A man trekked through the desert, his figure solitary, but he was not alone.
His form was ragged and disheveled, his hair long and matted, and his beard wild and untamed.
Stark tattoos marked the sun damaged flesh of both of his arms. The meaning of the symbols on them are either wholly unknown to him or long forgotten. Any curiosity on the matter had long flickered out.
The man moved languidly and without purpose, though he periodically cocked his head and changed his trajectory seemingly on a whim. Something that would normally spell the death of most who dared to cross this vast expanse of scarcity, yet the man cared not.
He never cared for much of anything.
His world was devoid of color. A constant monotony of black and white, with even the shades between lost to him. Stagnant pools of shadow and chaotic flickers of light were all that remained.
One of many gifts his gods had given to him.
He saw the stark truth of the world, while others were blinded by pretty lies.
The world was Chaos, and attempting to impose any sort of order upon it was the height of foolishness.
Better to tear it all down and wallow in Stagnation together.
The man crested the latest sand dune, and spotted what could only be his destination on the horizon.
A thriving little town, on the edge of nowhere and absolutely bursting with potential.
The man smiled wide, his cracked lips hurting at the motion, but he didn’t acknowledge the pain.
More people to guide into salvation!
“Wake up, Sister!” Cackled Chaos from his right palm. “Our ‘Apostle’ found a new land for us to play in!”
Stagnation grumbled wordlessly from her place in his left hand.
He listened intently to the divinities bound to his mortal flesh, though they almost never spoke directly to him. After all, does a smith speak to his hammer, or a warrior his sword?
No, they were merely tools to be used, just as he was a tool of the twin gods in his hands.
They’d directed him to leave his homeland, as there was little left to entertain them now.
As he continued on his wayward path he wondered how long this new land would provide entertainment for his gods?
It didn’t truly matter though, did it?
Isaiah would do as he was taught and tear down this cruel monochrome world.
